Chapter 45 - A Flying Little Spellcaster

[Magic Device] [Enchanted Item] [Scroll] [Spell Material] [Book]…

The dazzling categories stretched endlessly, impossible to see in one glance.

Yu Yu clicked on [Magic Device].

[Iron Golem]

[Quality: Fine

Material: Steel

Attack: 1000–2000

Armor: 3000

Intelligence: Low

Model: Defensive

Construct: Fixed High Protection Field, Fixed High Deflection Field, Fixed Moderate Anti-Magic Field

Description: Low-end golem, suitable only for guard duties. You could add attack components, but overall, this basic model is hardly impressive.]

The metallic golem was sleek, its stout frame, cold single eye, and rounded limbs exuding absolute menace just standing still. Yu Yu's eyes widened.

If she brought one out…

Mommy, I want it!

[High Spell Core]

[Lost tech core, once powering spellcaster towers. One used, one gone. If you have mage tower materials, consider buying.]

[Tactical Magic Cannon]

[(Encrypted)]

[Magic Furnace]

[Bound by an elemental pact with a fire elemental lord, a flawless furnace always connected to magma. Utterly reliable!]

[War Golem] [Mithril Golem] [Guardian Golem]…

Various large-scale war weapons, all details encrypted. Yu Yu scrolled, eyes practically glowing green. Ice elemental pact luxury rooms with vast space, earth elemental pact elf-blessed soil, water elemental pact endlessly sweet springs…

But so expensive.

Scrolling through heaps, Yu Yu lacked purchase permissions. No magic springs—she could only buy an auto-refilling, heated thermos, supposedly fixed with Water Sphere and Magic Heating. Low-tier spellcasters were stuck with magic traps, magic bombs…

Yu Yu exited the page, disappointed, checking others.

"Gold gear, purple gear, heh, hehehe…" Fuyu giggled, ignored by all.

Yu Yu, uninterested in scrolls, skipped them.

Enchanted items—she clicked.

Golden glow!

A sleek longsword, [Dawnbreaker].

"Ugh, sell me and I still can't afford a legendary," Fuyu teared up. "Why does the Magic Circle have so many non-spellcaster weapons? No legendary staves?"

Yu Yu: "…Because people use them."

Why sell if someone's using it?

Fuyu: "Makes sense, waaah, can't afford it, this dagger's gorgeous."

Zi Shu and Shu Tu scrolled to the bottom. "We can buy gear here—green quality at least."

Gold and purple gear were nice but unaffordable. The Magic Circle's inventory was vast, dazzling, with many items in hundreds, not singles. No wonder Fuyu blurted about robbing it. Yu Yu calmed, switching to ascending order.

"Elemental dust for arrow-crafting, nice."

"Huh? Look at [Book]."

[Introduction to Enchantment] [Analysis of Seventeen Basic Enchantments] [Energy Structure Basics] [112 Storage Circuit Possibilities] [Fundamentals of Enchantment Materials] [Golem Design Principles]…

[Allen Peninsula History] [Elven Language] [Continental History] [Magic Circle History] [Noble Heraldry]…

[Continental Herb Encyclopedia] [Herb Principles] [Elven Medicine]…

"Such high points…" Shu Tu couldn't help saying.

Yu Yu glanced at Shu Tu's page—except for histories, every book cost over 5,000 points, plus gold. On her page, many items needed only gold, no points, just permissions. A visible 5% discount marked gold costs.

So stingy.

What discount did high-tier spellcasters like Senior get?

Could she use a proxy buyer?

Yu Yu mused.

Holding off, she bought three books: [Introduction to Enchantment], [Fundamentals of Enchantment Materials], [Analysis of Seventeen Basic Enchantments]. 19 gold—gone.

With remaining points and gold, she bought spells: 2nd-ring [Overgrowth], [Silence], [Slow], [Ice Thorn], [Resist Fire Ring], [Summon Wolf Pack], [Summon Bear], [Summon Eagle]; 1st-ring [Summon Banish], [Fortitude], [Knock].

Spent 12,000 + 900, total 12,900 points, leaving 390.

Gold spent: 8 gold, 60 silver. Her rich wallet halved, leaving 13 gold and change.

She said summoning, she meant it—no delays!

Added control spells—[Ice Thorn] and [Resist Fire Ring] were long-desired. Summoning? She bought all she could. 3rd-ring spells were unusable, and… unaffordable.

Unlike typical games, Eternal Darkness's summons could coexist.

Theoretically, she could be an army!

Downside: summoning spells' casting times were longer than same-tier spells.

With the legendary's spell, Yu Yu skipped other offensive elementals.

Her strongest were fire and lightning, plus an unusable Chain Lightning.

She'd need level 7 and the Forest Blessing Necklace for Chain Lightning.

3rd-ring spells demanded far more mental energy.

Overgrowth was for farming—her orange seeds, urged into saplings by Senior, showed its value. Only one lived, but still.

Flame Burst and Lightning Beam met most attack needs, plus Delayed Burst Fireball, Elemental Shield…

Wait, she forgot to ask Senior about Spell Counter!

The assessment's three spells were odd too.

[Soro's Summon Nightcrow] [Nightingale Insight] [Nightingale Appraisal]

As they discussed purchases, Yu Yu sorted her gains.

A purple bird appeared, flapping elegantly. "Good afternoon, lady."

"I'm a professional Nightcrow, ID 9599," it circled Yu Yu warmly. "I'm your exclusive Nightcrow courier."

Yu Yu: "Yu."

Fuyu: "Whoa, cool! I want one!"

Fuyu lunged. "Waaah, I wanna reroll! Stupid rogue, always cursed, weak, no one hires me, can't outlift Zi Shu, waaah, I wanna join the Magic Circle…"

"Mommy, love me again!"

Yu Yu: "…"

Shu Tu & Zi Shu: "…"

The Nightcrow dodged, losing feathers, vanishing as energy before hitting the ground.

Circling, it said, "Yu, to send messages, summon me."

Yu Yu, chin in hand: "Can I message Senior?"

"Which lady?"

"Felix."

"Which Felix?"

Yu Yu pondered, recalling. "Felix Silver Moon?"

She noticed the surname.

Silver Moon?

Senior's surname?

Related to Silver Moon City?

Was Senior noble?

Yu Yu muttered inwardly.

"Anything for Miss Silver Moon?"

Yu Yu thought, "Nah, forget it."

Text-spamming Senior might get her smacked. Dismissing the courier, Yu Yu turned to the trio. "What'd you buy?"

Shu Tu: "Three 300-capacity quivers."

"Not enough points or gold for more," she said helplessly.

Yu Yu muttered, "Wonder if proxy buying works," coughing. "Let's talk about it after we get out."

"Let's upgrade first. Each of us should upgrade, and we should prioritize reaching level eight. I'm only two thousand experience points short of that level."

Zi Shu calculated, "We are the first batch, and with the experience we gained this time, we should not fall behind."

Even if they take the quest with all their might, it usually takes a day or two to complete it. They rush around looking for information and after completing it, they only gain a thousand or two thousand experience points, which is not much money.

So the mission of Magic Circle is to be generous. It's great to have an organization. Zi Shu was jealous. Why did warriors get nothing?

Why?

Leaving the Magic Circle, Yu Yu watered her sapling, casting Overgrowth. It sprouted taller instantly.

Overgrowth shot to her favorite spell list. Who wouldn't love growth-boosting magic?

Outside the inner city, Shu Tu said, "Split up. I'm learning skills, taking quests."

Zi Shu: "Same. Yu, if you get stuck on a quest, call me. Magic Circle quests, I'm in."

Ten gold per quest—unprecedented. Normal quests gave ten silver.

Too lucrative.

Yu Yu nodded steadily. "Will do."

Senior kicked her out; she forgot to ask about quests.

2,000 experience short—one quest should do.

Parting with teammates, Yu Yu tested her new idea.

[Feather Fall]

[Gust]

Whoosh!

Takeoff!

Under shocked inner city guards' stares, Yu Yu somersaulted 360 degrees, soaring. She hit eaves, walls, then climbed higher, higher. Balancing, arms spread, she laughed wildly.

"I'm flying!!!"

Her idea worked!

Could she try in reality?

…Better not. A real-world fall could paralyze her.

Yu Yu maintained her pose, soaring dashingly. Silver Moon was vast. From the air, she saw bustling crowds, their shocked faces…

Wait?

Glancing back.

Someone's chasing me?

"Stop! Get down! You're breaking the law!"

Guards shouted, "Silver Moon bans flying!!!"

Yu Yu, spooked, cranked Gust, losing grace, tumbling 360 degrees again.

Half a day later, guards nabbed the city's illegal flier.

[Feather Fall] still active, Yu Yu was carried like a chick, paraded through streets.

Dejected face.jpg

How'd she forget Silver Moon's laws?

Why ban flying?

It's so fast!

Guards grumbled, "Spellcasters are trouble! Last time, Lady Wind Singer hovered briefly and got slapped by the Magic Circle."

"This runt flew half the city, and no one stopped her."

"Is Lady Wind Singer less than some family's little spellcaster?" a guard fumed.

"You talk too much," his colleague said. "Everyone knows the Magic Circle's protective."

"When will the Duke become legendary," a guard slammed his armor, "and humble the Magic Circle?"

Yu Yu's ears perked.

Oh? Drama?

She was brought to a pristine white building, dusty and pitiful.

Too much dust at her crash site—her new robe was gray.

A bespectacled woman in white, cold and stern, asked, "What law did you break?"

Yu Yu hesitated. "No-flying law?"

Woman: "???"

"I flew a few streets," Yu Yu downplayed.

Guard, booming: "Half the city!"

The woman lifted a newspaper. "Low-tier, how'd you fly? Scroll?"

Yu Yu, serious: "Not Flight, but Feather Fall plus Gust."

Feather Fall, eternal champ!

Gust, instant, cantrip, near-zero cost.

Combined, flight, whoosh!

The woman's expression softened.

Guard thought: trouble.

Woman: "Clever kid, interesting."

"Don't fly in the city again, got it?"

Yu Yu, meek: "Got it."

Moments later, she was freed.

Guard shouted inside, "Ma'am, why'd Lady Wind Singer pay a huge fine the other day?!"

"She wouldn't learn."

"Ma'am!…"

Yu Yu bolted.

Wind Singer, some warrior idol?

Dusting off in a corner, a kid appeared.

"Lady, buying a house? Tulip Street, prime location…"

Yu Yu: "Do I look like I can afford a house?"

The kid eyed her clothes, serious. "Yes."

Yu Yu: "…Thanks, but I can't."

"Renting? Tulip Street 79, only 90 silver a month! Near Saint Nightingale Middle School, Granny Mel's bakery's delicious…"

Yu Yu slipped away, gone.

Players rent? Log off anywhere.

Worst case, log off by her sapling.

90 silver a month? For suckers!

When she's rich, she'll buy a house for storage.

Nearing logout, she'd wander, seeking quests.

Silver Moon had few players—tons of quests, surely.

Yu Yu roamed eagerly.
