Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: The Unbelievable System

All of a sudden, as if possessed by Yue Fei, Guo Xiaobei swung the stick in his hand and ran towards the three zombies nearest to him. In the suddenly silent street, all that could be heard was the sound of the wooden stick hitting flesh, accompanied by a series of ear - piercing roars. Fortunately, these zombies were rather stupid. Their roars didn't seem to have any real meaning. At least from the map, the nearby blue dots didn't speed up their approach because of these roars.

After a wild beating with the stick, the three zombies finally fell to the ground. If it weren't for the slow movement of the zombies, just with their current strength, they wouldn't be something Guo Xiaobei could handle. Fortunately, he had temporarily dealt with these zombies.

Guo Xiaobei leaned against a car, gasping for breath heavily. He drank up the last half - bottle of Coke and then put the empty bottle back into his bag. After all, he was now a zombie. There was no way he would turn into a zombie again just because of the zombie virus. As long as he could find a water source, he could use this bottle again.

After catching his breath for a while, Guo Xiaobei's gaze fell on the car he was leaning against. If he could have a car as a means of transportation... Not only would his traveling speed increase significantly, but his safety would also be greatly enhanced.

However, he didn't have the car key...

He walked around the car three times but couldn't come up with a good idea. Judging from the intact body of the car, it was likely that the owner wasn't attacked on the way. More probably, after parking the car by the roadside, the owner never had the chance to come back and drive it away. But with the doors and windows all intact, how could he open them?

Before Guo Xiaobei could continue thinking, the second wave of zombies had already reached not far away. And he was so hungry that he felt as if his front and back were stuck together. If he couldn't get something to eat soon, he might even rush up and bite a few mouthfuls from the zombies.

After dealing with several scattered zombies one after another, Guo Xiaobei started to feel that something was wrong. He wasn't a hero, nor was he a novice leveling up. Why was he killing zombies here? If he kept going like this, not to mention killing zombies, it was even questionable whether he could keep living.

Guo Xiaobei saw several more zombies approaching from a distance. It seemed that there were an endless number of zombies aimlessly wandering all over the road. Continuing like this was definitely not a good way. Then Guo Xiaobei's mind turned to the car beside him again.

If it really came to that... just smash it!

Reluctantly, Guo Xiaobei touched the nearly brand - new urban - style SUV. It really seemed a pity to smash it like this. If he could possess it without destroying the doors and windows...

To his surprise, the car in front of him disappeared. He turned around in place in great astonishment, but the surroundings were completely empty, except for the several zombies lying on the ground nearby with their heads blown off.

The car... where was it?

Instinctively, Guo Xiaobei opened the system. He was dumbfounded to find that the original dark - blue SUV was sitting properly in his package, occupying one grid.

This... was too incredible. It defied all logic!

With trembling hands, Guo Xiaobei took the car out again. The car appeared intact in front of him, the same size as before, and there was nothing different about it. If there was any change, it was that when Guo Xiaobei reached out to pull the door handle, the car door opened with a snap.

Guo Xiaobei pressed his temples, trying to buffer the huge shock. Swallowing his saliva, he got into the car.

The car was different from before. Guo Xiaobei was astonished to find that his worldview had been completely subverted. There were no keyholes on this car, nor was there a start button like those in automatic - transmission cars. He gently stepped on the accelerator under his feet, and the car started to move slowly forward.

What the heck, this actually worked. This unbelievable world.

Guo Xiaobei was roaring in his heart. In fact, was he transported into a game?

With this incredible system function, wouldn't any car be fine for him from now on? Guo Xiaobei, suppressing his joy, increased the speed.

A few zombies appeared in front of him. Guo Xiaobei stepped on the accelerator harder and rushed towards them. The feeling of the wheels crushing those half - rotten limbs was so disgusting that it made one's hair stand on end. Guo Xiaobei, suppressing the twitching in his stomach, continued to move forward. However, at the place where the original dashboard was, a red border began to faintly appear. At first, the red color was intact, but after he knocked down more than a dozen zombies in a row, it started to show signs of damage, as if it were a durability bar.

A durability bar?

Guo Xiaobei unconsciously stepped on the brake. The sudden braking made Guo Xiaobei's whole body lurch forward due to inertia. But he had no mood to think about these things now. If this was really a durability bar, then this car probably wouldn't be able to run for long.

Guo Xiaobei roughly calculated. More than a dozen zombies, based on the current rate of decline, at least 5% of the durability had been lost. By this calculation, it would be completely scrapped after hitting another one or two hundred zombies at most. However, he didn't know if this was really the case. Looking at the increasing number of zombies in front of him, Guo Xiaobei stepped on the accelerator again.

After rushing all the way, he finally got on the highway. It was really much better here compared to the city. The zombies were scattered around aimlessly. Guo Xiaobei wiped the sweat from his face. If he hadn't been so poor and had to live in the remote suburbs, this journey would probably have been much more difficult. At this moment, he was extremely lucky that he was a poor man.

Just now, in order to find something to eat, he rushed into several nearby small supermarkets. Without exception, all the food was gone. Apart from increasing his stock of drinking water and daily necessities a bit, it didn't solve the problem of food and clothing at all. The durability bar of the car also dropped by about 20% due to the dense zombies near the supermarket. Guo Xiaobei's calculation was correct. This was indeed a durability bar. When he knocked down several zombies in a row, he could see the red bar frame dropping at a speed visible to the naked eye.

With great difficulty, he got on the highway. Taking advantage of the fact that there were no zombies nearby, Guo Xiaobei decided to take a rest. After being highly focused for a long time, his shoulders were sore to the extreme.

He was really too much of a homebody!

He opened the system and found that all the missions he had just accepted had been completed. And his package was already filled with more than twenty grids. Apart from his own two bottles of water and cardboard boxes, the other items were all small gift packs of various colors, and there were also several grids filled with those brain cores.

Without the mood to look at anything else, Guo Xiaobei opened those small gift packs given by the system missions. According to...

There was a very soft bread inside, and it was not small in size.

Without the mood to think more, Guo Xiaobei grabbed a piece of bread and quickly took a few bites. Then he opened a bottle of water, tilted his head back, and gulped down a large mouthful, quickly swallowing it.

With something in his mouth, he immediately felt much better in his heart. Although he was a zombie, he couldn't eat people like ordinary zombies.

He wasn't like those zombies who were completely senseless and only had the idea of eating in their minds.

He was a completely normal person with his own consciousness. It was just that there was this strange system in his body. Whether it was his appearance or his inner self, he was just like a human being. Even if he was extremely hungry, he still couldn't bring himself to eat people.
