Chapter 25 - Chapter 25: Refining the Mangekyō Power

The Mangekyō chakra sealed within the system space took the form of a blood-tinged, grayish mist. It was compressed into a crystalline card—appearing harmless on the surface. But anyone foolish enough to underestimate this unassuming mist would quickly learn it wielded power on par with Amaterasu's black flames.

Even the slightest wisp—thinner than a strand of hair—could rewrite the memories of a living being. Such power... intoxicatingly alluring.

No wonder people like Danzō and Orochimaru coveted it so fiercely.

They were even willing to sacrifice a loyal Kage-level subordinate—or their own lives—just for the chance to hold an "Uchiha Card."

Thinking of this, Kirin felt a swirl of mixed emotions. He was undeniably proud of his Uchiha lineage… but beneath that pride weighed the bitter truth: he, too, was an Uchiha—yet completely powerless to stop the Night of the Massacre, unable to change the fate of his clan.

With a thought, the crystalline card containing the Mangekyō chakra appeared in his hand. He studied the card—light as a feather. A simple squeeze of his fingers would shatter the seal and release the chakra sealed within. The power—soaked in blood and hatred—would then be absorbed into his body.

"The Sharingan awakens from emotional stimulus—particularly negative emotion. If I inject this wisp of chakra into my spiritual world… could it further strengthen my eyes?"

He thought of the Hyūga clan, known to devour large numbers of Byakugan to forge the giant Tenseigan. The Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan, too, was born from the fusion of close bloodlines within the Uchiha clan.

It seemed that chakra absorption wasn't so rare among the Ōtsutsuki descendants.

"If that's the case… then it's worth a try."

As the thought crossed his mind, Kirin pinched the card between his thumb and forefinger. Just a little pressure, and the Mangekyō chakra would be released.

But the moment he applied force, his expression soured.

『Ding~ As a system item, the crystal card cannot be used in a simulation.』

That single message completely shut down his idea of testing it through the simulator.

Still, this was the fastest path to power for an Uchiha. The thought of awakening the Mangekyō Sharingan—of wielding his own unique dōjutsu—ignited a burning desire within him. He couldn't suppress it.

Even if it was just for a moment—he wanted to feel the overwhelming power of the Mangekyō.

"Dawn's almost here… time waits for no one."

He glanced at the clock on the wall—nearly five o'clock. Kirin's anxiety grew unbearable. At three in the afternoon, Root would unseal the barrier around the Uchiha compound. By then, even Hiruzen Sarutobi and Shimura Danzō might act personally. There would be no escaping after that.

From the moment he obtained the simulator until now, he had spent five hours running simulations—yet the strength he gained only matched that of a Chūnin. Even if he spent another five hours and reached Jōnin level, what would that matter in the face of Uchiha Itachi?

...

Power became increasingly difficult to attain as one advanced. Even if he pushed himself to elite Jōnin level, could he really escape Obito?

How could he not feel the pressure?

"I need power—now!"

Driven by urgency, his double-tomoe Sharingan snapped open, glowing faint red beneath the dim blue pre-dawn sky.

"It's just a wisp of chakra. Mangekyō may be stronger than double-tomoe in raw force, but chakra battles aren't only about strength—stamina and chakra quantity matter just as much!"

"You think you can control my mind? Think again!"

He grit his teeth and stomped the floor. Crack! The crystal card shattered into fragments and vanished, and that blood-colored mist, like a cursed spirit, instantly found the only living target nearby—Uchiha Kirin.

The mist shot into his eyes, burrowing deep inside like a parasite.

Agony—searing, splitting pain—erupted from his eyes and shot up into his brain, then coursed through his nerves and meridians until it flooded every cell of his body.

This was Kirin's first time experiencing such pain in the real world—pain that wasn't even his to begin with.

Eyes shut tight, fists clenched over his chest, his knees buckled as he collapsed toward the floor. His mouth opened instinctively, wanting to scream—but no sound came out.

Pain.

Pain with no origin.

Pure, primal, soul-wrenching pain.

This… this was the very essence of Mangekyō power.

Just as Kirin's will teetered on the edge—on the verge of falling into worshipful submission to this godlike force—an icy power surged from within him.

"I want to live!!!"

Yes, he had to live. Any dreams of the future now were fantasies.

Survival was the only goal. Whether his mind was overtaken by the Mangekyō's power, or he failed to obtain any strength and died on the Night of the Massacre—either way, death was his fate.

"I just want to live!"

That desperate, soul-born roar echoed from his heart. His double-tomoe began to spin furiously. That icy power surged from every cell in his body, flowing up his spine and into his brain—rushing into the very depths of his spiritual world, where the Mangekyō chakra tried to take root.

"I understand now… survival. That's my core instinct, my deepest emotion. The only answer."

With the return of his will, Kirin's mind cleared.

Before him, it was only a rootless wisp of Mangekyō chakra. His own Sharingan, though weaker, was tied to real eyes—and backed by a Chūnin-level body. In this struggle of attrition, his will slowly overpowered the godlike chakra.

Bit by bit, the Mangekyō power was eroded—shattered by the tidal wave of Kirin's survival instinct.

In his spiritual world, the blood-red mist was torn apart by pure instinct, dispersing into a foul emotional residue. It scrambled to invade Kirin's core consciousness.

But he wouldn't allow it.

With instinct backing him, Kirin's will, spirit, chakra, and Sharingan all twisted into a single unified force. Strangely, it didn't become harder to control—instead, it moved like a snake, perfectly responsive to his will.

Under his command, the energy devoured and crushed the foreign Mangekyō chakra.

Time passed.

Eventually, even the last trace of negative emotion from the Mangekyō power faded. In its place came a refreshing, cooling sensation.

He could feel it clearly—though mentally drained, his back drenched in sweat—his spirit and Sharingan had undergone immense growth from this internal trial.
