Chapter 16 - A Speedster is Born

In another part of the warehouse compound, a brilliant and strikingly beautiful female scientist was on the cusp of a potentially groundbreaking and possibly earthshaking discovery.

Santana was a former orphan who was lucky enough to get adopted by aristocrats who belonged to the Mann family and given an extreme education, which ultimately culminated in her current profession.

She was a theoretical physicist and a prodigy in dimensional energy research who was mere moments from discovering a dimension filled with nigh-unlimited energy, which would ensure her name becomes a permanent fixture in history books to come.

However, as she was performing the final test and was on the cusp of opening a stable portal to this dimension, an explosion suddenly destroyed the wall behind her and thrust her unwillingly into the window just before the explosive flames reached her position, and the lab was destroyed.

"Where am I?" Santana said as she floated in a seemingly endless void, everywhere she looked was pure blue, but after what felt like hours to her, she suddenly saw movement.

Santana's eyes went wide, and her jaw went slightly slack as she witnessed what seemed to be a massive bolt of lightning coursing towards her.

BBZZZZZTTT

"AAAHHHHHHHHHHGGGGGGG!"

She let out a bloodcurdling scream as the bolt slammed into her, and her mind went dark, her body being fully enveloped by the massive arc of energy.

The massive arc of energy swam through the strange dimension for a few more seconds before diving through the hole she had created to enter, and as soon as it did, on the outside world, a massive bold of lightning cast an eerie glow behind a feral young man in battle with a group of superhumans.

Electricity throughout the city suddenly flickered as a blue beam of light coursed through the city streets at speeds exceeding sound.

The speed at which the arc of lightning travelled built up to the point that windshields and windows began to shatter upon passing, and before anyone could even react, it disappeared.

RUMBLE... CRACKLE

Outside of Chicago, a bolt of lightning finally struck hard onto a tree, which split in half, with an unconscious young woman lying at the base with small arcs of electricity dancing along her body.

Her once pristine white lab coat is now long gone, turned into flaming bits of still-floating fabric all across the city.

Of course, her travel across the city did not go unnoticed, and mere minutes after her crash outside of the city, a GDA helicopter arrived with medically trained agents on board.

Days passed as Santana lay in a coma within GDA headquarters, electrodes lined her arms and chest, occasional flickers of blue lightning along her arms and legs sent the machines into occasional disarray.

Suddenly, her heart rate spiked, and her chocolate brown eyes opened to see the strange environment around her.

When she looked to her left, she could make out a young man floating in a medical tank unconsciously, surrounded by oxygenated water with tubes entering through his mouth and nose.

The sounds of footsteps echoed in the hallway, causing her to panic and attempt to stand, but the moment she attempted to do so, an arc of strange lightning passed from her feet and into the ground, and the sounds of footsteps slowed in a very noticeable way.

Santana's eyes lit up in brilliant arcs of electricity, and she moved towards the door leading into the hallway to find a doctor and a group of nurse's mid dash as they ran towards her room.

Their steps were slowed to a crawl, but their eyes were much quicker by comparison as the entire group of medical staff locked onto her with fearful expressions on their faces as she bolted past them.

WHOOSH

When she passed, the displaced air in the space surged towards the staff and slammed them helplessly against the walls, causing mild injuries to those nearby.

WHOOSH

WHOOSH

WHOOSH

She dashed through the seemingly maze-like halls, but suddenly, in front of her, a pink wall appeared and blocked off her escape in that direction.

Santana skidded to a stop and turned her head to see a rather attractive redhead standing on the other end of the hall with her hands glowing with a pink energy.

"W... Who are you people, where am I?" Electricity arced from her eyes as she readied herself to run in case the woman across from her attacked.

Eve raised her hand and took a step forward, "This is the medical wing of the GDA government building. We found you unconscious outside of Chicago and brought you here for treatment. Are you okay? Are you hurting anywhere?" Eve dripped concern for the young woman, but Santana could not help but notice her eyes kept moving in the direction of the room with the young man in the tank.

She could not help but think for a moment, "Just who is that guy?"

After calming down, Eve had Santana follow her for a tour through the accessible facilities.

They passed what appeared to be a canteen and could hear a brash young man taunting some agents while talking about how great he was in the latest mission.

"OH yeah, the explosion was HUGEEEE bro you should have se..." He notices Eve walking down the hall and paused, a sad look entering his eyes as he thought, "I really fucked up, didn't I?"

Rex shook himself out of his momentary reverie and continued to boast and brag to the nearby agents as they feasted and drank.

As they continued walking through the halls, Eve saw Kate coming from the opposite direction and suddenly had a derisive look on her face, "So... Off to see William... Or Rex?"

Eve did not bother to continue talking to her and moved past her, followed closely by Santana, who was just confused by the sudden negative atmosphere, turns her head to see Kate walking further down the hall with her head down.

However, she did not turn towards the brash man in the canteen but instead turned right, in the direction of the room where the unconscious young man was floating helplessly in a strange liquid.

Within minutes, Kate arrived in the room, dimly lit by the glow of the tank. WIlliam was floating inside the tank, his toned and muscular form fully healed from the previous fight, and the strange horn-like growth seemed to be reabsorbed by his body.

She placed a slender hand on the tank before turning around and leaning against it, and began to talk about her troubles, from her dating troubles to the PTSD she has from experiencing death so many times.

Her chest heaved as she sobbed, thinking about a particularly brutal instance where she was slowly burned alive by one of Rex's explosions during their early days; the feeling of her flesh being slowly devoured by an out-of-control explosive left an indelible and irreversible scar on her psyche.

"You understand, right? With healing powers such as yours, your suffering must truly be something different!"

She remembered watching his body heal even as it was being destroyed, and she could not imagine how terrible it must have felt.

Her hot breath cast a fog on the glass, and she proceeded to draw a smiling face in it before she stood up to leave and was about to leave the room.

BEEP

The machine connected to electrodes on William's forehead, which monitored his brain for any sudden changes, suddenly started beeping.

BEEP

BEEP

BEEP

The machine's beeping increased in pace, and loud footsteps were heard in the hall, looking in the hall, Kate could see a group of medical personnel rushing toward her direction with feverish and hurried steps.

A doctor rushed past Kate and approached the tank with William inside, her eyes somewhat lit up when she noticed slight movement in his hands and the continuous movement of his eyes behind his closed lids.

BEEP

BEEP

BEEP

PSHHHHH

The liquid inside the tank began to drain through a hole in the bottom of the tank, and William was slowly lowered to the waiting nurses below.

As all this was happening inside William's mind, visions streamed past his mind, visions of strange dimensions and other worlds, worlds that had been conquered and even destroyed.

At the forefront of it all, a strikingly powerful and extraordinarily beautiful woman wearing a dark dress that exuded as much class as it did danger, her eyes scanned the destruction going on below her with glowing purple irises seemingly exuding power and authority.

She seemingly commanded a myriad army of demons who poured into interdimensional portals to conquer all she sought to conquer.

Suddenly, she turned her head towards the point where William's perspective was, and a smile formed on her lips, and her once extremely lovely features were engulfed by strange flames which surprisingly still bore her face.

"Not yet, child!"

Even though the strange flaming woman's mouth wasn't moving he could still hear her in his head but before he could even question it his vision started going dark, and the last thing he saw was a flaming tear streaking down the womans face causing a distinct sizzling sound to echo out before he lost consciousness.

William suddenly shot up with his hand raised toward where the woman previously was in his dream, but when his hand touched something soft, his mind went blank, and he squeezed a few times.

BOUNCE

BOUNCE

BOUNCE

William raised his gaze to meet the reddened face of Kate and suddenly his face began to burn hot, he looked down once more and realized he was touching Kate's breast and suddenly shot his arm behind him with an apologetic look on his face but inside his head he couldn't help but think, "So soft!"

Kate, still stunned by the sudden groping, began to shudder in a mixture of anger, but underneath it all, a surprising emotion flared to life, causing her breath to hitch for a moment as her body heated up.

Suddenly, Kate made a clone of herself that immediately dashed out of the room and disappeared down the halls in a near sprint.

William could only blink as he questioned internally what was going on, but soon Kate spoke up, "Ahem, thank you for letting go, anyway, how do you feel?"

As she finished her sentence, her clone had reached her personal room in the facility and locked the door.

William squeezed his hands, "This feels good, need to cut my nails though!" he thought before saying, "I feel fine and sorry again!"

He bowed his head in apology.

"Hnnn!"

Kate let out a soft moan, and her cheeks flushed somewhat. "Do you remember what happened?" she asked, concern mixed with trace levels of lust she hid by turning away to hand him a glass of water.

William thought back and suddenly remembered the feeling of his flesh being shredded at the cellular level, causing a sudden jolt of pain in his head as if a blood vessel had burst

"AANNHH!"

He let out a cry, causing Kate to rush to his aid and wrap her arms around him, the soft feeling and the sweet smell calming him, and he turned to face Kate, who was mere inches from his own face.

William gulped.

Almost by instinct, he slowly closed on her lips with his own, but before he could plant his lips, she suddenly placed her fingers on his lips before whispering, "Sorry, I just... stopped seeing someone, it would be weird!"

"Hnnn!"

Another moan seeped from between her lips, causing William to tilt his head in confusion before asking, "Are you okay?"

She nodded while thinking, "No, I'm not okay, I am freaking cumming man!" before turning around and leaving abruptly.

William watches as she turns around and leaves, the sweet smell trailing behind her before disappearing as well.

He turned his head away from the door and back to his hand, for some reason unknown to him it felt as if he had a slight mental connection to his every atom.

Using this connection, he focused on his nails that needed trimming, the vein in his forehead beginning to bulge as he put more and more effort into affecting them, and in a show that surprised him, his fingernails began to shrink until they no longer looked long enough to make a cat blush and returned to a normal length.

"I wonder..." He suddenly had an interesting thought and once again focused on the cells in his fingernails.

Although it was still a struggle, he managed to take command of the cells in his fingernails and willed them to take a certain formation, which caused them to appear darker and thicker on the outside.

SHHHHHKKKK

He tested his nails on the sheets of his bed, causing a distinct ripping sound as he pulled his hand back.

Hearing approaching footsteps, he panicked and had to hide his hand under his blanket before a group of nurses and a doctor arrived.

Luckily, as they focused on refilling his fluids and checking the machinery that displayed his vitals, he managed to return his nails to normal from their claw state.

The doctor asked him a bunch of medical questions about his current condition and afterwards seeing that William seemed to be not only healthy but quite vigorous, he decided it would be okay to discharge him, although the doctor made sure to warn him not to do any heavy lifting for the day, just in case.

He was required by the doctor, however, to leave by wheelchair, which irked him slightly but when he saw Eve waiting for him on the other end of the hall his mood was uplifted, standing next to Eve was an unknown young woman wearing a white and blue gown that added a beautiful contrast to her copper toned skin.

Eve approached and took over the wheelchair before she began introducing the young lady next to them, "This is Santana, she woke up about an hour before you, I'm sure you two will make great friends!"

William scratched the back of his head and offered the girl his hand for a shake. The moment she shyly returned the gesture, a bolt of electricity suddenly arcs from her and into William, causing his hair to shoot up and stand on end.

"Sorry, Sorry, Sorry!"

She jumped back and, in a panic, began repeatedly apologizing.
