Chapter 51 - At Dunbrae

The ride to Scotland was quiet and calm, but the silence in the carriage couldn't compare to the storm brewing in the hearts of the two pureblood siblings. Lord Julian and Lady Seraphine sat facing each other, neither speaking much, their regal presence filling the space more loudly than any words could.

For Elowen, the night before had been peaceful enough.

Rain had begun to fall softly just as she arrived home, wrapping Greydock town in a shroud of sleepy serenity.

"Good evening, Mother. Evening, Maeryn," she greeted as she entered the warm, flour-dusted kitchen.

Marianne was stirring batter at the counter, while Maeryn was curled up with a pillow in the sitting room, nibbling on a biscuit.

"Evening, flower. The devil let you out early today," Maeryn teased, flashing a grin.

Elowen smiled, blushing faintly. "Not exactly early."

"Blushing now, are we?" Marianne peeked from the kitchen and wiped her hands on her apron as she stepped closer.
