I've been in the pack for a year now, and people still tense up when I walk into a room.
Is it because I'm a white wolf—or because they still don't trust me?
Honestly, I can't blame them. I appeared out of nowhere, and now someone wants me and Cassian dead. They say it's all my fault the pack is in danger. I'm also a rogue, and every pack I've ever been part of has ended up destroyed. If I were them, I'd keep my distance too.
Still, it's not like I wrote the damn prophecy.
Even after Cassian claimed me as his mate and declared me Luna, the pack remained divided. Some accepted it, some remained curious, and others resented it. I've tried to show them I'm not a threat—not that I care what they think, but Cassian says it's necessary. Apparently, some believe our bond is just an arrangement of convenience. Whatever that means. I'd scoffed at the idea.
Leticia still insists on guiding me in Luna duties. That includes inspecting food supplies brought into the estate and ensuring they're of good quality. She also says I need to get familiar with the omegas—because I'm one too, even if I'm dormant.
I've been a dormant omega for as long as I can remember. The elders once told me that my dormancy would only make sense once I met my alpha.
I glanced at Cassian as he ate. For someone so dominant, he had an almost regal way of dining. His mother must've taught him table manners. I would've liked to meet her.
He looked up and caught me staring. One brow arched.
"What?" he asked, leaning back slightly, giving me his full attention.
I blinked but didn't look away. No shame. Just... curiosity.
"Is there something you'd like to say?" he asked again, this time more pointedly.
I swallowed hard. "Who taught you how to eat?"
I immediately regretted the question. It sounded so... dumb. I wanted to stab myself with my fork.
Cassian stared for a beat, then burst into laughter. I scowled.
"What's so funny?"
"How did you expect I'd eat? Like a feral beast?" His brow rose with amusement.
"Well… yes. I've seen how some of you alphas eat," I said, unapologetic.
He chuckled. "Stereotypical. But fair. We do tend to devour things."
"So then—who taught you?"
"My mother," he said, a soft smile touching his lips. "She loved manners and etiquette more than anything."
I knew it. His whole face lit up when he talked about her, and it made my heart stutter a little.
"What happened to her?" I asked carefully, not sure I'd like the answer.
"She's gone," he said, his voice quieter now, eyes dropping to his plate.
My heart dropped with them.
"I'm… I'm so sorry." I hesitated, then reached out and touched his hand.
He glanced at it, then looked at me with a raised brow.
"Why are you sorry? She didn't die. I just got her a house in New York. That's where she lives now."
Heat flushed my entire body. Oh. Oh.
"O-oh. Right. Uh... G-good for her," I stammered and tried to pull my hand away, but he caught it in his.
"You thought she was dead, didn't you?" he smirked.
"What? No! I—" I couldn't even lie. "Hands off me!" I yanked my hand free, mortified.
He just laughed harder. I was tempted to throw my steak at him. But Leticia would have a heart attack. Or worse—lecture me for a month.
"Jerk," I muttered, stabbing my food aggressively.
Cassian just kept smiling.
I didn't dare look at him again. Not when my face was burning like a bonfire.
Why did I touch his hand?! I wailed internally.
---
The main house was quiet. Too quiet.
I was supposed to attend the council meeting with Cassian and the others, but honestly? The council suffocates me. I told them I was sitting this one out. Cassian had been skeptical about leaving me alone—especially since Luke, Leticia, and Levi were also attending—but I assured him I could take care of myself.
I wasn't helpless. I could fight. I knew a few spells. I could even heal myself now, thanks to Leticia's training.
Seeing him worry about me made me smile, though.
I decided to walk around the estate to clear my head.
Eventually, I found myself at the cave. It had been repaired for the fifth time after Cassian shattered it—again. Thankfully, I'd been there to subdue him using the magic Leticia taught me. It was becoming a routine now.
After a while, I headed back to the house.
I passed my room without thinking and soon stood in front of Cassian's door. Something in me warned me off. My wolf stirred with unease.
Still... I opened it.
Typical guy's room. Muted blacks and greys. Masculine. Clean, but not tidy. His bed was massive.
I walked to it and sat down, letting out a soft breath. "Not as hard as I thought."
I reached out and touched his pillow.
Then everything changed.
A flash of red. Screams. Blood. A battlefield.
Cassian, running toward me, yelling something—
Pain. White-hot pain tore through my side and I screamed. Then—
Darkness.
I gasped, stumbling to my feet.
"What... was that?" My chest heaved as I stared at the pillow, now suspicious, trembling.
My side ached, but when I touched it—nothing.
No wound. No blood.
But the fear still clawed at me. A fear I'd never felt before.
Shaking, I backed out of the room and returned to mine.
Something is happening.
And I don't understand it.
