The node systems pulsed in tandem—one heartbeat, three lungs.
Mirror Node 1: destroyed in fire and blood.
Mirror Node 2: compromised, its clone chambers abandoned, alarms still echoing.
Mirror Node 3: awake—a living, sentient network of memory and mind, dreaming Amelia in shattered fragments.
Zahir traced the overlay on the holomap, his fingers trembling as he linked the three sites. A web of red arteries, pulsing with dormant code.
"Look at this," he said, eyes wide. "They're syncing. All three nodes. Not for communication—for her."
Kestrel leaned in. "She's not their target."
Zahir shook his head. "No. She's their key."
Across the compound, Amelia stood in the dark, staring at the mirror. No longer afraid of her reflection. She studied it. Echo lingered just beneath the surface, her voice no longer invasive—but symbiotic.
"They built you for this," Echo whispered. "But they didn't understand what they were building."
"Do you?" Amelia asked aloud.
"Enough to know the system will collapse without your consent. It doesn't want to control you—it wants to become you."
Kestrel appeared behind her, voice low. "The network's preparing for full integration. You're syncing to it whether you want to or not."
She turned slowly.
"What if I do want to?"
Zahir spoke from the doorway. "That would mean giving up control of everything—your mind, your body, your memories."
Kestrel added, "It could destroy who you are."
Amelia stepped forward, her expression unreadable. "Or it could finally make me whole."
Silence.
Then—the map flashed. Node 3 pulsed, and a message appeared.
[SYNC: 94% COMPLETE.]
An alarm began to sound. Something deep, resonant. A countdown buried beneath silence.
00:10:32.
Ten minutes to full sync.
Zahir paled. "If the sync completes with Solas in control…"
"We lose her," Kestrel finished.
Amelia exhaled—slow and sharp. "No. Not this time."
She turned, placing her hand on the mirror. Her reflection smiled first. Then shifted. Echo's face, eyes alive with light.
Kestrel reached for her arm. "What are you doing?"
She looked back at him.
"I'm choosing."
She closed her eyes.
"Merge with me. Fully. Let's end this."
The room trembled.
Glass cracked.
And deep within Node 3, Solas—wearing Amelia's face—opened her eyes and smiled.
"Welcome home."
