On this day, Amelia had just gone to sleep when she felt the earth shaking. Her sister on the other bed in the room woke up. She looked at her with worry, but Amelia was able to convince her that it was nothing to worry about. "I am here. I will protect you," she promised. With these words, Charlotte went back to sleep. There was no one she trusted more than her sister.
The earth continued shaking. When Charlotte was back to sleep, Amelia decided to go out and check on the situation. In the halls, she saw people rushing in all directions.
Some were teachers at the academy, but most were students.
They were moving in all directions, creating chaos in the place.
"The Draugr have arrived," a female student told Amelia when she asked about the situation. It turned out that all the students were rushing to see the battle between the Draugr and the Guardians of Lemuria. The guardians were powerful people from the many supernatural races on Lemuria. Over the years, the academy had taught many students, and some of them had joined the Guardians of Lemuria and become protectors of the school.
Amelia felt some curiosity at witnessing this battle. When she saw Corina rushing outside the building, Amelia followed her friend, and the two headed to the edge of the academy. The academy was located on an island in the middle of a lake on the continent.
The academy took up the entire island. No one could get on or off this island without permission from the academy.
The academy was placed on the western part of the island, with some facilities spread out all over the island. The students easily reached the western shore of the island.
What Amelia saw changed her view of this place for the hundredth time. She had expected a simple battle between a few people, but this was not the case. The Draugr had brought hundreds of soldiers. These soldiers all wore black armor that covered them from head to toe. The armor alone was enough to make most people surrender due to how dreadful it looked.
To her shock, the lake that surrounded the academy had been completely frozen, allowing the Draugr to stand over it.
The hundreds of soldiers were neatly organized, and each of them had a long spear.
"Is this a scene from medieval times?" Amelia questioned.
Corina looked at Amelia with confusion. Amelia continued after seeing that Corina did not understand what she meant.
"Why don't they use modern weapons? Where are their guns?"
Amelia had a lot of questions about the situation.
"What are guns?" Corina finally asked.
Amelia was left stunned.
She could not believe that there were people that did not know about guns in this world. Even though this was not the human world, Amelia had still believed that human influences would have reached even this far. She had already seen many things from the human world, and she had automatically expected guns and tanks to be used.
After clearly describing what a gun was, Corina looked at her friend with a gaze that questioned her sanity.
"I am not sure about the power of these weapons you speak of, but I can assure you that they would be useless against us supernaturals." When Corina said these words, Amelia thought of them as words of the ignorant. "How could a gun fail to kill?" This is what she thought.
At this moment, Amelia finally saw what was causing the earth to shake.
A seven-foot figure adorned in the black armor of the Draugr rushed towards the island with a large hammer in his hand. When he reached a few feet away from land, the figure swung out the battle hammer, and just when it was about to enter the space above the island, a blue barrier appeared before it. This barrier seemed to be made from water.
"That is the academy's protective barrier. It surrounds the entire island.
It draws its power from the lake. Unless one has enough power to bring about the end of the lake in a single blow, they would never get through this barrier."
At this moment, Adrian arrived.
Even though this young man looked like a playboy—and he was indeed a playboy—he was also one of the smartest people Amelia had ever come across.
"Does this mean that the war has ended before it even began?" Amelia asked with some hope in her voice. She did not want to see her home be destroyed a few days after she got it.
The terrible figure continued slamming the barrier with its hammer. Each strike sent ripples along the barrier, but that was all.
At this moment, the principal appeared. He walked out of the crowd as though he was just any other old man. He walked towards the barrier and stopped before the figure striking the barrier.
The old man turned around and looked at the gathered students. There were over two hundred of them. These were the fools that had come to watch a war.
The principal completely ignored the powerful Draugr, and this disrespect was clear to all.
The figure increased its power even more and slammed the barrier with enough power to break mountains apart.
"All students must return to their dormitories at once," said the principal.
Amelia had never been rebellious, and now that she was in this place through the benevolence of the principal, she had no intention of ignoring his words. She turned around to leave, but this was when things truly became dangerous. She felt a chill go through the world. When she turned around, she saw that even the principal was now on guard. The powerfully built Draugr was retreating as though he was tired, but Amelia knew that this was not what she had sensed. The Draugr army split into two and created a corridor at the center. A young woman who wore simple black armor over a blue dress appeared at this point. This figure did not wear any shoes. She walked over the frozen lake with her bare feet.
Each step she took made everyone's heartbeat increase. The woman was a beauty that could bring countries to war. As she moved closer to the barrier, her long black hair moved with the wind, creating an enchanting scene.
This woman was none other than Hildr, princess of the Draugr.
She had finally managed to convince her father that they needed to attack the academy.
