Chapter 15 - Chapter 15: Talent X Slot Two

The training by the riverside continued.

"Yungu, did you notice? Kevin's really good at taking hits," said Biscuit.

Yungu frowned, thought for a moment, then nodded. It did seem to be true.

But since he knew Kevin's special condition—that Kevin had once been a Nen user—this didn't surprise him much.

"It's because he's been using Flow, without even realizing it."

This time, Yungu was genuinely surprised. He looked at Kevin, who had a blank expression.

Before he found Kevin, he himself had just been entering this stage of training.

"What's Flow?" Kevin asked.

The name seemed like another Nen technique.

Nen techniques were often either very straightforwardly named, or completely abstract.

"Ahem, Biscuit-sensei's class is starting!"

Biscuit cleared her throat and began to explain to Kevin.

"In addition to the Four Major Principles, Nen has seven advanced techniques."

Kevin nodded. Got it—advanced skills.

"Actually, you've already been using quite a few of them—you just didn't know their names."

With that, Biscuit began to explain:

En – An advanced application of Ten and Ren. Expands one's aura from the body to detect intruders.

Gyo – An application of Ren. Focuses the enhanced aura into the eyes to see through hidden auras; a basic combat technique.

In – Uses Hatsu and related techniques to partially dematerialize aura, making it harder to detect.

Ko – Combines Ten, Zetsu, Ren, Hatsu, and Gyo to deliver extremely powerful attacks.

Ken – An advanced usage of Ren and Ten to strengthen both offense and defense.

Shu – An application of Ten. Covers objects in aura, enhancing their capabilities.

Flow – Dynamically redistributes aura across the body for optimal offensive and defensive balance.

Kevin listened carefully and understood the techniques. Honestly, they were pretty straightforward.

But were these really considered "advanced" techniques?

He felt a bit puzzled. Ever since he discovered Nen and realized he had it, he had already been making these kinds of aura manipulations.

The only one he hadn't practiced or thought about was In.

"Feels familiar, right?" Biscuit asked.

Kevin nodded.

Yungu finally caught on too, looking at Kevin and saying, "So that's why, every time we spar, you always manage to dodge my first attack.

"But why do you suddenly stop dodging after that?"

The question stumped Kevin.

"Uh…"

"It's because his body is too weak," Biscuit explained. "His aura reserve is very limited, and even the amount of aura he can manifest is low."

"No wonder," Yungu said. "So every time you say 'stop,' it's not because you can't continue, but because if you kept going, you might get hurt?"

Kevin nodded. Isn't that normal?

If I'm almost out of aura, and you punch me when I have no defense, I'd die.

Yungu hadn't noticed this before because he had always assumed Kevin was stronger than him—just handicapped by his injuries and memory loss.

Turns out Kevin had been fighting at full power for a while now—and might even be stronger than he used to be.

Listening to the two of them, Biscuit quietly sighed and held her forehead.

These two really were born Enhancers.

At that moment, Kevin also realized something.

"If those seven techniques are truly advanced, requiring long training and talent to master…

"Doesn't that mean I'm actually… pretty impressive?"

Kevin knew too little about Nen. Honestly, his understanding of the world wasn't great.

He'd always judged others by Jin Freecss's standards—or his own.

It never occurred to him that freely controlling aura could actually be difficult.

Now he understood why Biscuit kept pushing him to do all that physical training.

"Don't get ahead of yourself," Biscuit said. "I've already told you—your learning ability is terrible.

"These so-called advanced techniques? Only those amateurs and half-baked Nen users don't master them.

"Real experts all know these inside and out. Against them, you wouldn't stand a chance.

"Your poor learning skills will stop you from integrating Nen techniques into your fighting. Especially since you still have to develop your own special move."

That flaw Kevin had—lack of focus—had already been polished away by Biscuit.

But she'd realized that Kevin's past trauma was the root of his earlier impatience. After two weeks of intense field training, and his natural passion for Nen, he reached average mental stability. That flaw could no longer be called a weakness.

Only his learning ability remained an issue.

Two weeks of actual combat hadn't improved his technique much—he just had more aura now.

As for fighting skills… the only way forward was the slow, tedious route.

He was a good kid who came from the ivory tower. For someone like that, the hard way wasn't ideal—but it was the only option.

After scolding him, Biscuit couldn't help feeling relieved.

Thankfully, Kevin was fundamentally an Enhancer.

When developing Nen abilities, Enhancers had the lowest requirements in terms of learning ability.

As long as they earnestly integrated these Nen techniques into their combat style, it could already be considered a complete ability.

Any flaws in this rough gem named Kevin would eventually be covered by how brightly he shone elsewhere.

In a way, he really was kind of lucky.

"My own special move? But don't I already have a Nen ability…"

Kevin didn't finish the sentence. He quietly shut his mouth.

Biscuit hadn't said anything about it, but Kevin was sure—she'd already noticed something was off about him.

So it's confirmed: A Moment's Dream wouldn't prevent him from developing a true, personalized Nen ability.

He really could create an Enhancer ability that was fully his own—even while already having a Specialist ability.

Then how should he…

"Don't overthink it," Biscuit said sternly. "What you need to do now is learn more about Nen, strengthen your body,

"and, truly come to understand your Nen ability."

Kevin snapped out of his thoughts and nodded firmly.

"Class dismissed! Back to training!"

As she spoke, Biscuit snapped her fingers again.

Yungu was sent flying once more, while Kevin dodged—again.
