Chapter 22 - Chapter 22: Practice (2)

The days went by like this: Shin Arashi trained with Urokodaki Sakonji every day, while Tanjiro did his physical exercises on the side. When it was time for dinner, Tanjiro would go to the designated place to catch fish.

Every night, Tanjiro had to run back to the cabin from Mt. Sagiri.

It might not sound hard, but Tanjiro explained that Urokodaki Sakonji had set up many traps on the mountain.

The traps changed every day. At first, they were just meant to slow him down, but as Tanjiro got better, the traps became more dangerous and started to try and hurt him.

In the beginning, Tanjiro only cleaned up the mess left behind by Shin Arashi and Urokodaki Sakonji after dinner. Over time, he could eat some of the leftover soup and rice, then he was able to come back halfway through dinner, and finally, he was able to return to the cabin before dinner was even ready.

Each night, Tanjiro would talk to Nezuko and write in his diary. Meanwhile, Shin Arashi would lie in bed, staring at the ceiling, deep in thought.

After Tanjiro had learned how to avoid the traps, he began to practice the basics of sword fighting – swinging the sword.

As Tanjiro grew, he had more things to learn. But Shin Arashi wasn't focusing on learning physical fitness. Instead, he was still trying to figure out the sword techniques and the Water Ten Style that Urokodaki Sakonji had taught him.

In comparison, Shin Arashi didn't have as much to learn. Tanjiro had to practice physical training every day, but Shin Arashi didn't need to.

During all this time, Nezuko remained in a coma, and Urokodaki Sakonji couldn't explain why.

Half a year later, Urokodaki Sakonji decided to teach Tanjiro the basics of the Water Breathing technique.

"Tanjiro, today I'm going to teach you how to breathe properly. You need to listen carefully," Urokodaki Sakonji said seriously.

"Yes, Master!" Tanjiro replied, paying close attention.

Shin Arashi stood quietly beside Tanjiro, not saying anything.

"The goal of breathing is to send oxygen to every cell in your body by breathing deeply and consciously. This will help heal your body faster and improve your strength and reaction time. This breathing technique is called 'Full Concentration Breathing.'"

"Water Breathing is a special form of breathing. You need to keep a steady rhythm while breathing, which creates a pattern that is like the flow of water. Other breathing styles have their own rhythms too."

"Tanjiro, now relax your upper body, keep your lower body stable, and start breathing."

Tanjiro began to follow Urokodaki Sakonji's instructions.

But as soon as he took a breath, his face showed pain, and he cried out.

Shin Arashi saw that Urokodaki Sakonji had hit Tanjiro in the stomach.

"No, you need to focus on your breathing. You should draw in oxygen using your Dantian, not just through your nose. The nose is just the way the oxygen enters."

"Try again. Focus the Qi into your Dantian and send it to every part of your body."

"Yes, Master!" Tanjiro said again and tried once more.

"Ah~…Ah~…Ah~"

Tanjiro's cries echoed as he kept failing.
