When he first witnessed the destruction and death left behind by Xue Ren, the Enforcement Head assumed he was in over his head—and that, ultimately, his reckless actions would cause more harm to the city than good.
However, when Xue Ren obliterated the last two Bloodring Bases and displayed his absurd level of talent, the Enforcement Head's opinion of him changed. He was no longer an unbridled nuisance but instead a potential asset.
Xue Ren didn't need anyone to tell him he was being used. And to be honest, he didn't really care.
As long as being used resulted in the complete and total annihilation of the Bloodring Assassin's Guild, then it didn't matter.
"Why don't I take you to see Headmaster Jiang Hao right now—"
Just as Xue Ren was about to accept, a loud, obnoxious shout echoed throughout the entire building.
"Where is he!?" Bo Lou, Regional Official of the Golden Root Kingdom Low Court, barged into the Enforcement Department. "The little bastard who killed my younger brother—I know he's here! Bring him out right this instant!!"
"Bo Lou??" The Enforcement Head popped a blood vessel. "What is this arrogant prick doing here- Wait, he wouldn't happen to be here for you, would he…?"
Xue Ren's empty eyes stared at him, unblinking.
"You…" The Enforcement Head sighed. "Even if I'm the Head of a Government Department, there's nothing I can do to help you here. Bo Lou is a Regional Official personally ordained by the Royal Capital City's Low Court. Although he's a very small character there, his influence in this Region—which he jointly oversees alongside a few other Regional Officials—is equivalent to that of the Mayor."
Rising from his seat, Xue Ren said without turning, "This is my problem. Naturally, I'll resolve it."
The Enforcement Head was troubled by this, as the young man truly was a once-in-a-millennium talent who had helped him a ton. However, there really was nothing he could do.
"Just be careful, kid," he said with a tone of caution. "That Bo Lou is in the Middle Golden Core Realm—far stronger than that four-eyed stuborniate of mine. Try not to die, okay? I'll go and get Headmaster Jiang Hao, so just hold off until then."
Xue Ren merely nodded as he left the private office.
After descending a flight of stairs, he was greeted by the sight of an armored man. This man had carved brows that curved upward, and a face somewhat synonymous with a strict general.
Right now, however, his facial features were twisted in anger.
"It's you, little bastard!!" Bo Lou furiously stuck out his finger, taking thunderous step after step in Xue Ren's direction. "The one who killed my brother!!"
"???" "???" "???"
The officers in the precinct—who had been trying to calm the Regional Official down—went slack-jawed.
Killed Bo Lou's brother… Was this brat insane!?
"Let's settle this outside," Xue Ren said without a care as he walked past Bo Lou. "I don't want to pay for any damages after I'm done with you."
"Done with… me…?" Bo Lou's expression was a mixture of astonishment and wrath. "Good, good. Very good!! Let's go outside so you can 'deal' with me!!!"
"Yeah, that's what I said." Xue Ren revealed a puzzled look. "Whatever. You may have a mental disability, but I still won't go easy on you."
Go easy on me!??
Bo Lou was on the verge of erupting like a volcano.
Yet he nonetheless followed behind the deadpan young man.
"Who do you think's going to come out on top between them?"
"The kid is strong, but Bo Lou is in another league compared to the Vice Head. My money is on him."
"I don't know… Personally, I'm more partial to the kid."
"You just don't like how contemptuous Bo Lou was when he charged in here like he owned the place."
"And you did…?"
Silence…
"Anyway, why don't we go and spectate this battle as well."
"Are you insane?? The Head is already going to have our asses later for the previous incident! No, we should stay here and complete the rest of our work for the day. Then, if they're still fighting, we can-"
KA—BOOOOM!
What the hell was that!?
The whole place just shook like crazy!
Rushing out of the building, dozens of Enforcement Officers had their eyes go wide when they saw who was kneeling in the dirt a distance aways.
"W-What… How…?"
Bo Lou's hair and clothes looked wild, slightly singed. Around his kneeling figure was charred land that spread out in a fan shape for hundreds of meters.
His legs were weak—his ability to stand, gone.
As for how he ended up in this state, it started a few seconds prior. Xue Ren and him had just gotten into a dueling position outside the Enforcement Building, one exhibiting far more confidence than the other.
Originally, Bo Lou assumed this fight would be simple and easy—one that would ultimately end in him killing the brat.
However, as soon as the fight commenced, it was already over for him…
