Chapter 65 - Episode 65 Cherishing The Ordinary - Final Dates

As the days remaining in high school became fewer, the focus shifted from the grand, looming future to cherishing the simple, ordinary moments we still had together. These weren't elaborate dates or big events; they were the quiet, everyday interactions that had become the comforting rhythm of our relationship.

We spent lunches together in the courtyard, just the two of us, or sometimes with Kenji and Aiko. We'd talk about our days, share silly stories, or just sit in comfortable silence, enjoying the simple act of being in each other's physical presence. Every shared meal felt a little more significant, a little more precious, knowing that in a few months, it wouldn't be a daily routine.

Walking home from school together, hand in hand, along the familiar streets, became a mini-ritual. We'd point out things we noticed, talk about our plans for the evening, or simply enjoy the feeling of being side-by-side, a simple pleasure that distance would make a luxury.

We spent evenings at my apartment, reading or watching movies, just like we used to. The quiet intimacy of those moments, away from the public eye and external pressures, felt like the core of our real relationship. These were the moments we would have to build our long-distance connection upon – shared interests, comfortable silence, the simple joy of being together, even without grand plans.

Sakura seemed to savor these ordinary moments too. She'd linger a little longer before saying goodbye, her grip on my hand a little tighter. There was a quiet sadness in her eyes sometimes, mixed with determination.

"Just... enjoying this," she said softly one evening, as we were walking home, looking at the familiar school building in the distance. "Our ordinary days."

"Me too, Sakura," I replied, squeezing her hand. "They're the best kind of days."

We talked about how we would try to recreate these moments when we were apart. Watching a movie "together" while on a video call, reading the same book and discussing it, sharing details of our ordinary days through texts and calls. It wouldn't be the same, but we were determined to find ways to keep the connection alive.

These final, ordinary dates felt more important than any grand gesture. They were a reminder of what we were fighting to preserve – the simple, comfortable, real connection we had found amidst the chaos and expectations. They were the anchors, the everyday proof that our unexpected love wasn't just a fleeting high school romance, but a deep, ingrained part of our lives.

Saying goodbye to the ordinary routines of high school was saying goodbye to the easy proximity that had allowed our relationship to blossom. The approaching distance was a challenge, but these final, cherished ordinary moments were the fuel for our determination to bridge that gap, to find ways to make the extraordinary effort of long distance feel, somehow, a little bit ordinary and comforting too. The final bell was ringing on our high school days, but the lessons learned in these ordinary moments were the ones that would carry us into the future, hand in hand, even across miles.
