[Elara's POV]
I could hear the rain beating the windows like it was trying to get in, thunder shaking the glass as it echoed through the sky. It had been raining for a while now.
I tried getting up slowly, only to feel the sharp ache in my rib—one that only seemed to remind me of where I was.
I glanced around the room. "He wasn't here. Kieran."
Not long before I slept, he was here, leaning on the walls beside me, claiming he wanted to ensure I was doing okay. But now he was gone, and I hadn't heard him leave.
Yet, why do I find myself concerned? I wanted the peace, right? Yeah, that was it.
A knock on the door caught my attention, and I watched as a maid stepped inside, her steps gentle and quiet. A smile made its way to her lips.
"Who was she, and why was she here?" I wondered.
She carried fresh bandages and a tray I hadn't asked for.
"Who are you?" I asked, my hands fixated on the bed, as I pressed harder, hoping to step back.
