Days after the Echo Nexus Tower's destruction, news channels buzzed with whispers of "a new hero", "an unknown combatant", and "an untraceable threat". Social media exploded with rumours and grainy videos from bystanders.
But beneath the surface, the real eyes were watching.
You had gone off-grid, but that didn't mean you were invisible.
Late one night, while you calibrated your newly acquired abilities, a subtle shift in the air alerted you.
Your senses sharpened – enhanced beyond normal human capacity.
A faint vibration pulsed through the street.
You turned sharply.
Standing in the shadows was a tall figure, cloaked in black leather and violet energy crackling softly at her fingertips.
Her eyes glowed faintly lavender.
"I've been watching you," she said, voice calm but authoritative. "You adapt faster than anyone I've seen."
You narrowed your eyes. "Who are you?"
"Name's Selene," she answered, stepping forward. "Mutant. Telepath. And someone who understands what it means to be changed against your will."
You relaxed just a little.
"Why find me?"
Selene smiled, a mix of challenge and invitation.
"Because your power—your evolution is unique. But it's attracting more than just curious eyes. People like me can help you control it… or destroy you."
You crossed your arms. "I'm not looking for a team."
"Not a team," Selene said softly. "An alliance."
