Chapter 11
After working at the bookstore for nearly a month,
when the injuries on my body had almost healed,
I ran into Qin Jinnan again—by accident.
At 11 p.m., the bookstore owner asked me to deliver a stack of packed books to the opposite building.
I was stopped and interrogated by the security guards.
But after some hesitation, I finally stepped into that building for the first time.
After handing the books over to the owner, I was ready to leave.
The office building was quiet at night, most people had already gone home.
While waiting for the elevator, I faintly heard a subtle sound from the far end of the corridor.
It was the kind of sound someone makes when in extreme pain.
I waited for the elevator for what felt like a long time,
but instead of stepping in, I turned my head toward the end of the corridor.
The words from the system flashed in front of me,
advising me to mind my own business.
Some of the messages even tempted me with the idea of using this opportunity to follow Qin Jinnan down to the underground parking lot—
to find him once he was off-duty.
But I listened to the hoarse voice filled with pain,
and after standing in place for what felt like an eternity,
I turned around and headed toward the source of the sound.
