Chapter 33 - Chapter 32: The World Above Trembles

The skies above the mortal world churned.

From the great towers of the Eastern Empires to the frost-ridden walls of the North, tremors of unnatural origin shook the land. Birds refused to fly, beasts cowered in their dens, and mages screamed in their sleep. A dark ripple had torn through the fabric of the world—an echo of conquest from below.

And in the ancient halls of the Divine Council, bells forged from starlight tolled for the first time in a millennium.

"He's returned," whispered the High Oracle, her eyes white with prophecy. "The Abyss has crowned a new Lord… and he rises."

Far beneath the surface, Rael stood atop a plateau overlooking his transformed kingdom.

The Abyss was no longer a cursed pit of decay. His command had shaped it into a flourishing dark dominion—rivers of silver mana now flowed through black-stone canals, glowing mushrooms lit every pathway, and fortress cities rose from the chasms, guarded by loyal undead, abyssal beasts, and his elite troops. This was no longer a realm of ruin. It was the crucible of an empire.

Rael's eyes narrowed. "It's time."

He turned to his council—Kaelene, Seris, Elira, and Azura stood in formation, now adorned in regal armor and garments befitting their new statuses as Consorts of the Abyssal Sovereign.

"Today," he announced, "we return to the surface. But not as exiles or survivors. As rulers."

A deafening roar echoed as the newly constructed Abyssal Nexus Gate surged with energy. The portal shimmered like mercury, and through it, glimpses of a desert landscape—his old territory—appeared.

A reminder of where it all began.

Azura stepped beside him. "There are rumors of other Lords gathering. Their territories have flourished, but none of them have dared to enter the Abyss. Your return will shake their foundations."

Elira held a scroll bearing the sigils of rival lords. "The Eastern Lord has allied with the Beast Tamer of the North. They control three large sectors and have a common goal—finding the Supreme Crown."

Rael scoffed. "Let them dream. I already wear mine."

Kaelene adjusted her blade, eyes gleaming. "Let's crush them while they're still dreaming."

With a nod, Rael raised his hand and pointed toward the gate. "Open the bridge to Fort Irondune. That will be our staging ground. From there… we begin reclamation."

The portal opened like a rift in the sky. Soldiers stationed at the desert fortress screamed in alarm, raising weapons, only to fall silent when a figure stepped through—cloaked in dark regalia, a black crown hovering over his head, eyes like burning embers of magic and power.

Rael had returned.

"Sound the horns," a guard murmured, dropping to one knee. "The Lord has come home."

Behind Rael emerged his consorts, followed by an army not born of mortal lands—disciplined, perfectly arrayed abyssal warriors, draped in dark banners and enchanted armor.

Within moments, Fort Irondune was no longer a mere stronghold. It became the Forward Bastion of the Abyssal Dominion.

The war council was held in the high tower, maps and relics spread before Rael and his inner circle.

"We'll need to secure the eastern trade routes first," Seris said. "If we take the merchant city of Ordran, we cut off three of their supply chains."

"There's a deeper reason to take Ordran," Elira added. "A vault beneath the city holds a legendary item: The Womb of Origins. Said to bless a child conceived with divine traits."

Rael's gaze shifted subtly toward her.

She blushed but didn't back down. "The child we create might inherit more than magic. He could be destined for godhood."

Kaelene smirked. "Then we make sure our enemies don't get there first."

Rael clenched his fist. "Then Ordran falls within the week. Prepare the strike teams. Send the first detachment of undead and scouts tonight. We move at dawn."

A man clad in golden armor snarled as his crystal orb flashed with abyssal energy.

"So… the Abyss Lord emerges," he hissed. "Then let the game begin."

Beside him stood a robed figure—one of the Supreme System's envoys.

"He's not just a threat," the figure said slowly, "He may be the Chosen One. The one meant to inherit the true power of the Supreme Lords."

"Then we kill him before he ascends."
