Chapter 22 - Chapter 22 : The Wall Falls

"It's Done"

In the past few days, Lucian was preparing his plan.

First, he removed all the traces he could leave behind. Luckily, this time he had enough time to fake the evidence.

It was impossible for anyone to discover anything.

Lucian looked at the huge beast in front of him.

The plan was simple:

Release the beast. Let it go to Wall City and destroy everything in its way. Lucian would use the chaos to enter the human territory.

If he was lucky, maybe one of the Ten Families would even die.

Now, everything was ready. Lucian started adding the final touches.

He needed to make the formation look old and broken, like it was weak for a long time. And he had to give the beast a chance to destroy the formation completely. That way, the humans wouldn't find much evidence.

Click.

Silence filled the place.

Then, a strong yellow light appeared in front of Lucian's face. It was the eyes of the beast.

"Damn it!"

Lucian didn't expect the beast to wake up in the middle of the process.

He started running fast.

The seal was already weak. The beast could break it now.

And the beast realized that quickly.

BOOM!

With the sound of an explosion, the throne room above the beast was destroyed.

The beast pushed its head out and let out a loud roar.

Lucian ran without looking back.

The angry beast started destroying the palace and roaring, like it was expressing all its pain from the years in prison.

It looked at the city entrance and saw Lucian leaving through a hole to the surface.

The beast stood on its four legs, opened its wings, and started chasing Lucian.

Above, on the surface.

Lucian jumped out of the hole and kept running toward the city.

"Huff… Huff…"

Minutes passed. Lucian could only hear his own breath.

His mind was focused. He was calculating the distance he ran, and how long it would take the beast to follow him.

Everything was planned. He needed to know if he could reach the city before the beast caught him.

If not, he would have to change the plan.

Luckily, the beast took more time to get out.

BOOM!

BOOM!

BOOM!

The sound was getting stronger and shook the whole forest.

The beast was finally out.

And it didn't lose Lucian. It followed him directly.

The chase began.

---

At the same time, in Wall City.

"That's not fair!"

"What's not fair? I won, now give me the money."

"Wait, wait! Remember the money you owe me? Let's say this pays it back."

"We didn't agree on that!"

"And we didn't agree it would take you this long to pay me."

"Let's play again. This time, the loser listens to the winner."

"Deal."

"Rock, paper, scissors!"

Boom!

"Haha! I won! Now give me my money."

"Wait, did you hear that?"

"Hear what? Don't change the subject. Give me my money."

BOOM!

"What the hell was that?"

"I don't know. I'll go report it."

"Wait! We're supposed to guard the gate."

"And that's what I'm doing, idiot. Don't you feel—"

BOOM!

The guards looked forward carefully.

There was a huge thing coming toward them very fast.

"Damn it, I'm out of here!"

"Wait, I'm coming too!"

The guards left their post and ran to report what they saw.

"What did you say?"

"Exactly what we told you, sir! A huge thing is coming fast!"

The supervisor looked at the guards.

He felt it was a bit silly, but he couldn't ignore any kind of report. That was not his decision to make. He had to follow the rules unless it was clearly fake.

"Open the underground shelters and move the people inside now. Activate the emergency plan!"

The sound of sirens filled the city.

"Is this a drill?" The people were confused.

Then a voice came from the loudspeakers across the city:

"Please evacuate the city and go to the shelter immediately. This is not a drill. I repeat, this is not a drill."

The message was repeated again and again, and fear started to grow.

Everyone dropped what they were doing and ran to the nearest shelter gate.

Soldiers spread out to manage the situation, and they were efficient.

After all, Wall City was at the border. The chance of a beast attack was high.

No one dared to be lazy.

In the middle of the evacuation, a strong shake happened.

BOOM!

A loud sound was getting closer.

The fear grew, and people became more unstable.

"Don't push! Everyone will get a turn! You! Someone is under you!"

The guards struggled as panic grew.

As for the captain...

"Sir! We got a report. A huge beast is heading this way at high speed!"

The captain went silent for a moment.

"Call the Ten Families. Ask them to send the nearest member to help. The beast's type is unknown, but it's very large. We can't stop it without causing damage."

"Now prepare the troops. We'll try to delay it until the evacuation is complete."

"Yes, sir!"

The officer left the room and the captain was alone.

He sat on his chair and held his head tightly.

"Damn it! Damn it! Damn it!"

"My wife just gave birth to our first child... Do I really have to die now?!"

"I don't want to die!"

BOOM!

The wall — the one Wall City was named after — didn't last even one second.

The beast, taller than the wall itself, entered.

Its yellow eyes looked at all the humans with hungry excitement.

One soldier dropped his spear in fear.

"It's over."
