Chapter 4 - Chapter 3 - What went wrong...?

IZUMI'S POV

Looking back, she was a horrible sister.

No, could she even call herself a sister at this point?

11 years since Izuku was announced quirkless and in all that time did she do one thing, at least one thing right...to him?

No.

She didn't.

She always thought of herself as the stronger twin and the better one, but here she was weeping herself in tears on the couch as she flinched when her brother slammed the door to his room upstairs.

The weight was getting heavier and heavier as she was starting to hyperventilate. Almost as if she was choking on her own sobs as she held her head in pain.

It was then when she was transmitted images and vivd portraits of the fateful days during childhood, all of when she began to slowly move away from her brother, when she started to distance from him.

When she broke the promise that they once held.

===============================

(7 years back)

When the two first joined Aldera Junior High, the spreading and the rumours of the quirkless kid started to circle. A group of obnoxious and popular girls of the seemingly immature class had approached Izumi in the hallways as their judgemental stares bore down on her.

"You're the new girl right? Along with your brother?" one girl asked politely with an innocent smile. Her next words were not as so.

"Aren't you ashamed to have someone like that Deku as a brother?"

Those words struck her like daggers to her core. Who the hell says that so abruptly to them and speaking so lowly of her brother like that?

She knew she should talk back or punch them for talking bullcrap about her brother, or at the very least tell them to fuck off.

She hesitated.

They were new to the school. They had no friends except for the Bakugo twins and the Todoroki twins. They only hang out with her, but not with Izuku though.

Her heart was clenching inside as her love for her brother and the pressure to fit into the group and the school was forcing her to conform. She desperately wanted to be liked by them, but at what cost?

Would she do it to him? For a friendship with a group of girls that may or may not last? Would she even be accepted? Her inner turmoil turned sideways when another girl spoke, "Probably. I mean look at her, she's got the perfect quirk to be a hero."

Another chimed in, "Yeah, she's cute and already has some looks from the boys, but she's got a defect like her brother," they all laughed at the mention of Izuku.

"She belongs with us and not the quirkless. You're only tolerating him because he's your brother right? Poor thing..." the third girl sighed feigning pity towards her.

"Poor thing..." ringed in her ears as it suffocated her sense of self. She wanted to be strong like the top heroes, loved and respected by them. Not pitied and looked down on as though she were a snail.

"My mother said that you shouldn't get close to a quirkless. They said quirkless can affect and even take away quirks if you touch them," a girl said shivering at the 'consequences'.

"Like even your friends don't talk to him. Shoto, Katsuki, Katsumi and Shoka don't talk at all. I heard they even talk behind his back badly," another girl added giggling.

Izumi felt nauseous, but it went away as she listened to their words slowly as it all repeated in her mind.

...She laughed nervously as she struggled to form the words that betrayed her brother and herself.

"Y-yeah...I-I only like him, s-since he's my brother...you know..?"

She couldn't believe those words came out of her mouth. But it was justified. She wanted to be loved by the kids in the school. Izuku wouldn't have known about this so it would've been fine.

A chill ran across her shoulder when her gaze had inadvertently fell on a bush of green and shadow patches of hair standing in the distance. His eyes filled with a sadness and almost acceptance that she finally succumbed to the pressure of everyone.

He turned away and walked of not looking at Izumi's eyes which widened in horror, freezing one of the heartbreaking moments in a locked away corner of her mind.

===============================

That wasn't enough though was it.

She seemingly justified herself that it was okay to continue this action to wards him from that day on.

The quirkless kid who couldn't do anything. The quirkless kid who couldn't be anything.

Then he said he wanted to be a hero.

That tipped her over the edge as she used her quirk on him and threw him to the wall for the first time. And what she did next had done next was one of the many solidification's that she didn't want him as a brother.

===============================

(3 years back)

They had just finished bating up the quirkless kid as Shoka threw a final ice spear into him as it lodged him against the wall making him stuck there. They all laughed as they took picture's of the loser kid.

Izumi was standing there mockingly looking at him as if he was the dirt that should be wiped of the planet.

Izuku managed to pull the spear out as he feel back onto the ground coughing as gasped for a breathe of air. Before, he tried to fight back but 5 powerful quirks against 1 quirkless kid.

No matter how strong you are, some of the most powerful quirks together can always over power even an average guy, let alone a small loser.

So, he stopped trying. He stopped fighting back. He already gave up any reason to forgive those bastards. But his naivety made him still believe in his sister even though she participated in the bullying.

What she said next broke any and all hope of ever fixing the relationship between brother and sister.

"Izuku, I wish you were never my brother and I wish that you would just die. In fact, why don't you jump off a roof and pray for a quirk in the next life."

It was sweet. Way too sweet. Almost as if you wouldn't have comprehended the message that she had sent. However Izuku did and that cut the threat of fate in his eyes as he finally broke. A small lone tear travelled down his eye as he watched his sister, who was smiling sweetly at him, flipped him off before walking away with the tormentors.

'Was it peer pressure...?' she thought as she walked away from her brother.

Did she actually just suicide bait her own brother. She failed to see all the concerned and shocked gazes from Katsuki, Shoto, Katsumi and Shoka as they watched Izumi seemingly walk off as if she didn't do anything.

She also failed to see the look of lost hope in ever building a relationship between siblings ever again as Izuku looked at her back with no hope in seeing her as a sister again.

===============================

It was meant to be a normal day for her. She woke up and got ready for the final day of middle school as she was excited to see her friends and finally realise her dream of becoming a hero at the prestigious UA High.

However, a pang of pain had hit the back of her head.

She went on with her day as usual, with eating breakfast and waiting for her mother to get ready so that she could be dropped off at school.

When she got there, it was only her as she set her bag on the side of her desk before sitting down as just then, the Bakugo and Todoroki twins came through the doors.

"Yo Izumi, what're you saying girl~!" Katsumi exclaimed as she went behind Izumi and hugged her from behind.

"I'm fine~, just a little tired..." as if showing proof, she let out a large yawn that caused the surrounding peers to jeer back to not catch the yawn infection.

I mean come on, if you see someone yawn, you felt as though you wanted to yawn as well right?

Katsuki chimed in as he sat at his desk looking at his hands which were glistening a little with sweat, "Oi, where's that Deku? I don't see him around."

The aching in the back of head her came back as she winced a little but shook her head. Now that Kachan mentioned it, where was he?

Not that she cared because who would for a loser quirkless like him? Someone like him could never be a hero.

-10 minutes later-

"-zuku, it seems you want to go Shield Tech Industries?"

The bomb dropped as the whole class went silent. They all stared to the back in the corner seeing the laid back quirkless kid staring out the window.

She was confused. Someone is going to THE David Shield's Tech Industries?

She followed the gazes of her fellow classmates and as she was looking around she saw the looks of shocks from the Todoroki twins and Bakugo twins confusing her a little more.

She turned even more to the back where she met the final destination of her eyes. Her pupils dilated as she looked at her 'brother' casually staring out the window as if it were a normal day.

It didn't make sense. It wasn't him.

Then again, how could she decide what he wanted to do? She didn't do anythi—

She paused as her eyes slowly widened. It was like she wa hit in the gut by a freight train as she just realised the severity of her actions.

She just killed a person's. dream. And not just anyone's.

It was her brother's dream.

He gave up because of them.

Because of her.

A third set of aches hit the back of her head as she slowly started to piece together what she had done. What she did to Izuku was anything but being a hero, if anything...it was villaino—

'No NO! It was for his own good! Yeah...that's right...he couldn't be a hero in the first place...right?' she thought, biting her thumbnail anxiously as she looked down and away from her brother.

That was the third sign of discomfort she began to feel. And it was all linking to Izuku.

Izumi found herself walking the long way home, her feet tracing an old path she hadn't taken in years. It was instinctive. Izuku and her used to walk this route together, back when their world was smaller and kinder. Before Quirks drew a line between them.

However, it all changed when they joined school that she became an absolute bitch.

"Izumi? Is everything alright?" Shoto asked blankly glancing at her though everyone knew there was the hint for concern.

"Yeah, you've been really quiet since the morning class...is something wrong?" Shoka added as she put a hand on Izumi's shoulder shaking her slightly, bringing back from her thoughts. She looked up to the sky and muttered out.

"We're horrible..." Izumi sighed as she painfully spoke out not just about herself, but to the rest of the group as they were also the bullies of her brother.

"Hah?! The hell you mean?" Katsuki shouted out at her but stopped when she looked back at them with a single lone tear dripping slowly down the side of her cheek.

"Girl, is everything goo—"

"Izuku..." at the mention of his name they all paused.

"...What about the nerd?" Katsuki gritted his teeth slightly because he still has doubts that all the thing's that happened during and after class had taken place. It annoyed him that Izuku suddenly changed careers from wanting to be a hero to being a Tech savvy riddler.

It urked him. All this time of pushing and hurting him and for what? Him to give up?

Wait wasn't that they're objective in the beginning?

"We hurt him...we abused him...we used our quirks on him....we humiliated him...assaulted him....broke him down..." she slowly widened her eyes as Izumi began to tear up, "...I-I su-suicide baited him...3 years back..."

None of them spoke as Katsuki clenched his fists and unclenching them before repeating the same motions.

Shoto furrowed his eyebrows a little as he gazed at the ground in the utter shame that he was in.

The same couldn't be said for the other two girls as they almost choked a sob and as if a nervous breakdown was about to occur Shoka held onto her twin for support. They took advantage of Izuku's situation for being quirkless as a means to satiate they're anger towards him for when he tried to say that he could be a hero.

Where had it gotten them? Almost breaking any form of relationship they had with him.

"Damn it, we'll apologise to Dek-...I-Izuku."

It felt foreign. He hasn't said his name in years. His real name after all these years and it felt so foreign to him that Katsuki almost mumbled it. On the other hand, it felt natural to call him Deku that he just stuck with it for all these years. How was he being a friend to him at all?

'Am I even a friend at this point...?' he thought as he bit the inside of his lip a little.

"I-I don't even think, he'll even accept it..." Shoto added as he gritted his teeth inside his mouth. Forgiveness? After 11 years of straight harrassment and bullying and beating and bullying and abusing and all of the above linked to hate crime...

'Isn't that the same as being a villain..?' he thought in horror as he didn't want to be a villain. Yet, all the actions he committed in the last decade were almost, if not equivalent to it. He made a person's life miserable. His own friend's life miserable.

He looked down as he felt a wet sensation forming on his shoulder as he looked to his side seeing his twin, Shoka, crying softly on him.

He can only imagine the pain she's feeling after taking part in the harrassment against Izuku.

Izumi broke off from the group and walked back home as she glanced to the side seeing her neighbours greeting her happily, whilst she remembered all the looks of digust she saw Izuku had received over the years.

The gnawing agitation was growing to a larger extent as she walked in to the house. She saw her mother as she greeted her, "Hey mom..."

Inko was cleaning the dishes as she heard name being called out by a familiar voice behind her as she smiled before turning around slightly, "Hey sweetie how've you bee—"

She paused and looked concerned when she saw her daughter's dried tears staining her face.

She put everything down and quickly rushed to her side, taking the gloves off from cleaning dishes and placed her warm hands on Izumi's face trying to wipe away the tears, "Sweetie, is everything okay? Did someone hurt you?"

Izumi shook her head and slowly took her hands off her face before asking a simple question to her, "Mom, I'm fine but...do you know where Izuku is?"

"Wh—, huh wait...I-Izuku?"

Izumi's eyes widened in shock and horror when she caught the familiar word, 'Who...she was going to say who...no...she can't forget her son right?'

"Y-yeah..d-do you know where he is...?" Izumi slowly asked back.

"He...didn't come home yet. W-Was he not with you?" Inko spoke worried as she thought about Izuku.

She suddenly stood up with her hands shaking as she bolted upstairs. Izumi was shocked. What was wrong with her to make her run like this? Not even a few minutes later and she heard sobbing and crying from her parents room as she rushed in to see her mother crying with the family photo book in her hands.

Inko looked up to Izumi with tears as she spoke, "Where is he...? Where's your brother...? My Izuku..."

The switch was crazy. One moment, she was confused as to hearing the name called Izuku and the next, here she was bawling her eyes out wanting her son back.

She sat next to her holding her and caressing her back as she looked down to see the photos. There were a multitude of them. Her and her family all smiling and laughing. Moments of her life displayed on paper as she smiled remembering the happy moments when she wasn't hurting Izuku—

'Where is Izuku?'

He wasn't in the photos. Not a single one. All of them had their father, mother and herself.

But not a single one of him.

"I'm a terrible mother..." Izumi heard as she turned to her mother who was sniffing quietly looking down at the episodes of memory laid down, but there was none which had her brother in.

"Mom, don't say that please...you aren't...you're an amazing mother..." Izumi spoke quietly almost pleading to her mother as she watched Inko shaking her head and crying softly. Izumi looked down and sighed sorrowfully as she took her mother back downstairs onto the couch. She went into the kitchen to brew up a nice warm tea for her.

Once she gave the heated beverage to her mother. At that moment live television was playing and it was a breaking news moment as a sludge type villain was terrorising the eastern side of Musutafu. They both glanced at each other as this was quite a few miles from their home so it was a little concerning.

The villain had caught a blonde girl hostage and was terrorising the district. Inko watched with a heartbreaking gaze as she praying for the girl to be saved. She knew that her fellow heroes were on sight as she could make out the large, towering heroine, Mt. Lady, who was holding back the civilians.

They watched as the news anchor's were struggling to get a good visual of what was occurring at the scene, but a familiar black and green hair bush appeared rushing past the civilians and grabbed onto the girls hands as he pulled her out without a struggle.

He then proceeded to go straight in as he weaved and ducked through, before landing a right hook into the villain's large eye making it screech in pain.

Izumi's eyes widened in shock as she just registered that it was her brother who was there.

"IZUKU?!" Inko shot up with tears flowing out as she was about to head over if not for seeing her sister from another mother, Blizzard freezing the villain and the rabbit hero catching the two safely moving away from them.

None of them could move after that as they watched the news anchor's trying to get a good glance at the two seemingly middle school students, but the heroes with their ethics, moved and stood in front of the two to try and withhold information of minors.

Izumi couldn't believe it. Her brother, who was quirkless, went in and not only saved a girl, but went further beyond and struck a largely painfully punch towards the villain. She's had to deal with Izuku fighting back a lot, but she has never seen him throw something like that.

'Was Izuku always this strong...?' she thought as she clenched her fists in sorrow.

She rushed upstairs and towards her room as she jumped onto her bed.

She was breathing fast. Her heart was still in her throat. Not from panic—but disbelief.

Her fingers shook as she pulled up the news app on her phone again, just to make sure she hadn't hallucinated the whole thing. Rewatching the whole thing a several few times, she closed the app then went onto snapchat.

Izumi:

GUYS TURN ON THE NEWS RIGHT NOW.

I'M NOT KIDDING.

HE SAVED A GIRL

Katsuki:

Katsumi:

Shoka:

Izumi:

He acc punched a villain

Katsuki:

tf are you talking about

Katsumi:

Sybau. Stop chattin girl

Shoto:

I'm watching it now

The read receipts lit up one by one. After about a few minutes, there was no texts in the chats. Izumi could only assume they were processing what just happened. Just then, she heard a door close downstairs and she could muffle out sounds of a man talking. It was her dad.

She came downstairs to see her father walking in as skinny as always. Inko had already rushed to tell him what happened, but it looked as though he already knew and was about to say something, but when he saw Izumi coming down, he hesitated.

"I-I saw it from All Might's Agency...I can't believe he would do something so reckless...damn it," he sighed angrily and full of concern, but then he had just realised that Inko was crying in his arms.

"Inko! Are you okay? Why are you cryi—"

"We neglected him Toshi!....W-We neglected our own son...!"

Toshinori reeled back a little in shock. What was his wife talking about? They never neglected him?

"What are you talking about!? That's not true..! W-We were there for him..w-weren't we?" he slowly spoke unsure as he started to realise what he was saying.

He tried to remember a time when he spent time with his only son to come to the realisation that he couldn't remember anything. Nothing came up. All that came up was his daughter.

"W-Where is he? We can talk to him...and try and fix this, but first..we have to talk to him for jumping into a villain's assault," he spoke as he tried to be a strict parent to him. Maybe that would work.

"Dad, he isn't home...we thought he would come back..." Izumi chimed in as she softly spoke despite the tense situation occuring.

"T-Then let's wait for him to come back.! I-I'll make him something he likes," Inko spoke trying to light herself up.

That didn't work as a few hours went by and there was still no sound of the front doors opening and no contacts from him. Time was ticking slowly as Inko and Toshinori were sat in the living room, whilst Izumi went upstairs to lock herself in her room trying to distract herself.

Just then, Izumi heard a loud cry from her mother downstairs as she got up from her chair and rushed downstairs to see a sight she would've never thought she would gaze upon.

Their mother was crying into his stomach as Izuku was watching in wide eyes at the sight.

They had briefly exhanged a few talks with Izuku's being short and almost cold. It was to be expected Izumi thought. It was also her first time seeing her brother being hugged by their mother in a long time, that she herself couldn't remember.

Just then the night news was playing as the same familiar video that Izumi watched a several hundred times was playing, but with different angles from different people at the disastrous event.

Her dad began questioning him about why he had done something as stupid as rushing in without thinking.

Seeing her dad reprimand him, Izumi was in shock. This was the first time, he had even talked to him and was telling him off for saving a girl's life?!

'But dad is right...he is quirkless..right?' she thought as she also began to say her piece, interrupting her mother without thinking, "Yeah Izuku, that was just a dumb move. You should've just let the pro's handle it. If you did this to get attention then that was just even more stupid."

She shouldn't have said that. She really shouldn't have said that. She doesn't know why but the discomfort that she was feeling was reaching extremely high levels of danger and pain as she held the back of her head in pain. No one seemed to notice this development as they all watched Izuku slowly clenching his fists and unclenching them.

Their mother then said something she would never forget. Something that all of them will never forget, "—stop trying to be a hero."

She flinched visibly when Izuku slammed his hand into the tea table breaking it. She shivered when he shouted profanities she'd never thought she would hear from his mouth as their dad also slowly stood up pointing at him.

'N-No dad...stop don't make it worse...Izumi move..! MOVE DAMNIT!?' she screamed in her mind.

She couldn't. Her mind was telling her to move, but her body wasn't responding. It was freezing as though she had to be forced to watch the feud between her brother and father grow larger.

Izuku stood up and went to Toshinori as their mother went inbetween the two, screaming at the both to stop. But the men of the house didn't listen.

SLAP

Izumi and Inko were in shock. Toshi had slapped Izuku.

What came next would affect their lives.

Izuku grabbed onto his neck and began punching him out of rage and it was visible on his face. Izumi came down from the staircase she was from as she finally moved and went to Izuku pleading him to stop as tears were flowing from her eyes.

This was terrifying. No this was frightening. A million thoughts were rushing into her mind, as she tried to see how many what ifs were coming when she thought of how Izuku stepped through those doors.

This was not one of those What ifs.

In the heat of the moment, she had completely forgotten to use her quirk as well as Inko did as they tried to pry the two men away from each other.

When they successfully (but with tears and cries and begs and pleads for them to stop) pulled the two men from each other, Izumi heard her brother. tell her to get off of him.

She was scared. Visibly and internally. She was scared of her brother. Not knowing what to do, she tightened her hold on him to try and stop him as she begged him not to do anything bu—

"FUCKING GET OFF ME?!" she yelped in fear as she fell onto the couch and began to cry and whimper hearing him shout at her.

Small, broken sounds spilled from her lips. She curled in on herself, hands shaking. Whimpers she didn't recognise as her own trembled out of her as tears streaked hot and fast down her face.

She didn't even register Izuku walking out of the room but flinched indefinitely when she heard a large slam resound across the house.

Her eyes began turning slightly red from crying too much as she looked to see her mom bawling her eyes out and wailing as she fell to the floor in her own self regret and pain. She didn't bother to look at her dad.

'What went wrong...?'

That night. She could hear it.

Sounds of breaking and smashing and tearing and thrashing. The entire house could perceive it as it all came from Izuku's room.

She wasn't a genius to figure out that Izuku was in a rage like state and breaking everything around him in anger. No one had the courage to go to him at all. Inko was bobbing her head down every time she heard an audible profanity being screamed upstairs as she lulled herself down.

She didn't want to hear it. Her son, that she didn't even acknowledge was now moving further and further away from them. She knows what might happen will come to fruition, but she shook her head from those thoughts.

'No, Izuku won't leave...He won't leave...please God...tell him to not leave...' she prayed inside to try as a last resort to stop any form of that happening.

She couldn't move. She was on her knees, arms folded over her stomach like she was trying to hold herself together. Her lips trembled with every crash, and her eyes—red, soaked—kept flicking to the ceiling like she was praying someone would make it stop.

The noise had slowly died down as they could now only hear silence.

Izuku had stopped throwing things now. But that silence...it was not peaceful.

It was the kind that comes when something inside a person finally snaps, and there's nothing left to break but themselves.

Inko whispered something under her breath. Maybe it was his name. Maybe it was a prayer.

Izumi heard it, but didn't answer. She was thinking about the look on his face. Not when he shoved her off him.

But when he roared at her. Telling her to 'fucking' get off of him. That was an intense f-bomb that was thrown when someone had reached the heights of anger that could no longer be perceived.

She brought her knees to her chest, clutching them tight. She remembered being little, when they'd build pillow forts in that same room. When he used to laugh.

That was before when quirks came into their lives and ruined everything.

Everything was moving to fast for her as the adrenaline from the rush of being shouted at and shoved off and pulling Izuku back was slowly going away she felt tired.

She slowly fell onto the couch falling asleep with tears stained on her cheeks as she whispered out whimpering and repeating to herself.

"I'm sorry..."
