The moment they stepped off the train, Nina's eyes darted around the station, tense and alert.
The atmosphere in City C was anything but normal—too many patrols, too many cameras, and way too many eyes scanning the crowd.
She tugged at the strap of her bag, glancing at her mother with suspicion.
"Where are we going?"
Nina asked as they exited the terminal.
"Don't worry about it. I've got everything planned."
Her mother replied breezily.
"That's exactly why I'm worried."
Nina muttered, but her mother only waved a dismissive hand in response.
"There's no need to be so tense. I already arranged for a taxi to pick us up."
Her mother said.
Nina raised an eyebrow.
"You what? In this kind of atmosphere? Who would even agree to—"
Before she could finish her sentence, a sleek, black taxi pulled up in front of them with a soft hum.
The windows were tinted, and the car looked far too polished to be anything from a regular company.
