With his results finally out and the dust settling, Kingstar turned his attention to the next chapter, University applications.
He had one goal: University of Education, Winneba (UEW) – Main Campus, to pursue Mathematics and ICT.
The dream was clear now. Not just to make it, but to master the numbers and the tech that had always fascinated him since JHS.
Every afternoon, he'd sit behind his mother's tabletop fridge at her shop in Tarkwa Maakro, carefully browsing on his phone, calculating cut-off points and figuring out the online application process.
His mother, now his rock more than ever, had already started putting money aside even before the results came. There was a quiet sense of pride in their small rented home.
Then one evening, while submitting a friend's university application at a café near Kejetia, a message popped up:
Pearl
Heard your results came. I'm proud of you, Star. Still mad at me?
He froze.
So many emotions surged in his chest.
He hadn't spoken to Pearl since she left him on read back when he was jumping walls and hiding from school authorities.
Back when he needed someone the most, and she disappeared.
Not mad. Just focused now. Applying to UEW – Main. Want to study Maths and ICT.
Her reply came almost instantly:
You always loved numbers. I'm going to Legon. Maybe one day, our paths cross again?
He smiled faintly.
Maybe. But this time, I'm not missing the path.
He meant it. The distractions, the drama, the detours all of it had taught him something.
This time, the dream came first.
