Chapter 28 - Chapter 28: Foundations of Fire and Blood

The scent of smoke still lingered in the air.

Even after the enemy's defeat, the town of Dawnwatch bore scars—scorched buildings, shattered battlements, and exhausted warriors. Yet within those ruins bloomed something even more powerful than fear: hope.

Arjun stood at the edge of the central plaza, his eyes tracing the charred edges of what used to be a market square.

"Start marking the perimeter," he commanded. "This place will be rebuilt as a fortress hub."

Behind him, several construction squads—both native villagers and summoned units—nodded and began outlining a new schematic drawn by Meera and the town's architects.

In seconds, the Lord Stone pulsed with golden light. Stone walls rose higher, archer towers morphed with automated defenses, and roads transformed into reinforced paths of obsidian-embedded stone. Statues of defenders stood at every corner—silent guardians of a city reborn.

Cheers erupted around him as his people witnessed the transformation. The morale shift was visible. Even the wounded stood straighter.

Shayra walked up, wiping blood off her shoulder. "You just love showing off, don't you?"

"I call it leadership," he replied, smiling faintly.

Inside the newly restored infirmary, Priya stirred. The soft hum of mana crystals filled the air, and a half-dozen nurse sprites flitted about, adjusting potions and checking vitals.

Arjun entered quietly, watching as her eyes fluttered open.

She blinked. "Did we win?"

He knelt beside her, brushing a lock of hair away. "Thanks to you. That beast you summoned turned the tide."

She blushed faintly, then frowned. "I saw… things when I summoned it. Memories, maybe. From another world."

"Other Lords?" he asked carefully.

She nodded. "One of them wore golden armor… and he was crying while holding a broken egg."

Arjun's expression darkened.

He'd started suspecting it before—but this confirmed it. The System didn't just summon random people into this world—it recycled power. Old Lords, fallen or victorious, still left echoes in the flow of mana.

"I'll look into it," he said gently. "But for now, rest. You've earned it."

Priya gave a tired smile, then drifted back into sleep.

That evening, Arjun convened his top advisors in the new Hall of Command. A circular chamber with rune-etched stone walls and floating tactical projections.

Present were:

Shayra – His elite knight and first harem member.

Meera – Strategist and mage.

Rana – Revenant Swordsman and ghost general.

Anirudh – The first villager promoted to commander rank.

Priya (linked via psychic tether while resting).

The map hovered in the air, showing nearby regions and Lord territories.

"The defeat of Vargan has shaken the Scorched Marches," Meera began. "We intercepted messages. Three other Lords have broken their alliance with the Scorched Crown."

"Good," Arjun said. "Divide and conquer."

"But another issue is pressing," Rana spoke. "The Beastkin Tribes have begun mobilizing from the eastern forests. Scouts report movement near Emberpoint Valley."

Arjun narrowed his eyes. "Neutral territory?"

"Until now. But they've never tolerated Lords encroaching that far east. With our expansion, they see us as a threat."

"Let them see us how they wish," Shayra said, arms crossed. "We'll show them why they were wrong."

Arjun didn't speak right away. His mind was already spinning.

New Regional Threat Unlocked: Beastkin WarbandsOptions:– Fortify and wait– Diplomacy Attempt– Preemptive Strike– Covert Infiltration

"Prepare a diplomatic envoy," Arjun decided. "Let's test their intentions before we draw more blood."

"And if they refuse?" Meera asked.

"Then we burn a path to their capital."

Later that night, as the moon rose above Dawnwatch's towers, Arjun returned to his quarters.

Shayra waited for him, sitting on the edge of his bed, still clad in partial armor.

"You've hardly rested since the battle."

"I'll sleep when I'm dead," he muttered, pulling off his cloak.

She walked up to him and gently pushed him to sit.

"You're the Lord now. You carry our hopes and burdens. But you're still human."

He looked into her eyes. "And what about you? You throw yourself into every fight."

Shayra leaned in, her voice a whisper. "Because I want to be worthy of standing beside you."

Their lips met, slow and searching.

A connection sparked—not of lust alone, but deep yearning.

When they finally parted, Arjun wrapped his arms around her and pulled her into bed beside him.

As the night deepened, so too did the bond between Lord and warrior.

Outside Dawnwatch, emissaries were dispatched. The Titan Wolf slumbered once more beneath the Lord's Keep. Troop barracks echoed with drills. Artisans restored the town's grandeur with materials multiplied a thousandfold.

And far away—in the depths of the Beastkin Dominion—a council of fanged warriors growled around a fire.

"Dawnwatch rises too fast," their leader snarled. "We must either leash them… or end them."

They did not know what power truly rested in the heart of that fortress.

But they would soon find out.

Because Arjun, the Thousandfold Sovereign, had only just begun to awaken.
