Chapter 13 - Pre-presentaion jitters

On Friday, the team made final preparations for the presentation. Everything was set, and they eagerly anticipated Monday, the day of the presentation. Mirabel decided to handle the presentation herself, sensing the nervousness of the others. She gave a pre-presentation that same day and received applause from her staff, especially Vicky.

Lucy gazed at Vicky and thought to herself, "How I wish one day he'd walk up to me and tell me, 'I love you'..." However, her thoughts were discouraged by Rick, who whispered to her, "Stop staring, it won't work."

On Sunday evening, Mirabel sat on her bed, her face in her hands, with her diary and phone beside her. Thoughts about the upcoming presentation swirled in her mind, filling her with uncertainty, nervousness, and fear. She raised her head, picked up her diary, sighed, and began writing:

"Well, diary, the fresh start I've been dreaming of will reach its peak tomorrow. The real question is, will everything work out? Will it be a success, or will I fail to deliver the presentation well? Did I make the right decision by deciding to handle the presentation? I think I did, because they were all nervous, and I don't want any flaws. But am I flawless? Will I be able to deliver it in a way that meets the client's expectations? I can't afford to fail because they all believe in me, and I don't want to let them down."

She smiled, thinking about her team's efforts, especially Vicky's. "He's really a gem, a rare gem to be precise." Mirabel closed her diary, wondering why she was thinking about Vicky. "Why did I call him a rare gem? He's just normal... We don't... I don't..." She got confused, lay down, and sat up again. She reopened her diary and continued writing:

"Hey diary, don't misquote what I said. I just said he's a rare gem because of the effort he put in, and nothing else."

Just as she finished writing, her phone rang. It was Annabelle. Mirabel smiled and picked up the call.

"Hey Belle, what's up?" Mirabel asked.

"I'm good, how are you doing? Hope all's well," Annabelle replied.

"I'm good, just stressed," Mirabel said.

"I'm sorry I haven't called for a while. I've been quite busy," Annabelle apologized.

"No need to apologize, it's okay," Mirabel replied.

"So, how's everything at work? How are your preparations for the presentation?" Annabelle asked.

"Everything's okay, I think I'm ready for the presentation. We've all given it our best, and I just hope the results will be okay," Mirabel said, her voice low.

"Don't be too nervous, everything will be okay," Annabelle reassured her.

"I hope so," Mirabel replied.

"How's your new employee? Is he meeting your expectations?" Annabelle asked.

"Yes, he's exceeded my expectations. He's great, really calm, cool, nice, and..." Mirabel began.

"Hold on, girl, slow down. Is he that good?" Annabelle interrupted, laughing.

"Sorry, I'm just feeling overwhelmed," Mirabel said.

"Oh, really? A few minutes ago, your voice was low, but immediately we started talking about Vicky, you're feeling overwhelmed... Hope this isn't what I'm thinking," Annabelle said, her tone playful.

"What do you mean?" Mirabel asked, her voice rising.

"I mean, are you starting to... you know, like him?" Annabelle asked, her voice trailing off.

"Don't say it... He's just my employee, and nothing more than that. We're not even that close," Mirabel interrupted.

"You're sure?" Annabelle asked.

"Yes, definitely. You know what? Change the topic," Mirabel said.

"Okay," Annabelle replied, pausing. "Belle, are you still there?"

"Yes, but I really have to end the call. I just received an important message, and I have to attend to it. Sorry," Annabelle said.

"No problem, I'll be okay," Mirabel replied.

"I'll call you tomorrow. Just take care, and don't be nervous. Everything will be fine," Annabelle said.

"Okay," Mirabel replied.

"Oh, and when you're at the office tomorrow, keep your eyes away from Vicky," Annabelle joked.

"Goodbye," Mirabel said, ending the call.

Mirabel stood up, wondering what was wrong with her. "What's wrong with me, why am I suddenly thinking of Vicky ?" she asked herself, heading to the bathroom.
