Chapter 44 - Chapter 7

Know the value of the people around you before you lose them.

"Max, where the fuck are you?" My voice echoed through the forest. My breath was heavy. The thoughts in my head were chaotic. My heart was unsettled. My head was spinning. Why?Why?

Is it because Max is nowhere to be found?Maybe Kira or Jame found him. It's close to noon—we've been searching for hours. The marquis and marquess would have definitely realized something's wrong by now. What if Max needs our help?

Wait… does Max have magic?

I turn, and my eyes meet Satan's."Satan, all the marquis family members have magic, right?"He nods. I didn't expect him to answer without asking for something in return.

I might not be part of the marquis family, but I can sense magic—since I have magic myself. My attention turns to Caelith, who was already looking at me. Her gaze made me freeze.Something about those navy blue eyes staring at me made me feel… weird.I snapped back after a moment and swallowed hard as I looked away.

"Caelith, help me make a magic circle."

I knew how to do one, but I didn't know if my magic was enough for a big one.If you have a contract with a cursed angel, you can create magic circles—or even rituals—using both your magic and theirs.

We both started working on the magic circle.I drew the left side with my red blood, and she drew the right side with her blue blood. While we were actually doing something useful, Satan stood there watching us, arms crossed.

The only good thing about him is his face and body.

As we finished the magic circle, I stepped into the right side and she stepped into the left.I held her big hands with my small ones.As I closed my eyes, I began murmuring the spell to activate the circle.

I was pretty sure that if everything was working correctly, the blood we used to draw the circle should start glowing.

A jolt of pain tore through my body.My back felt like it was ripping apart, just like my head. That pain—that exact pain—only happens when my wings and horns appear. But this time, it was different.

My skin felt like it was on fire.It was itchy. Hot.

I slowly opened my eyes to see my red blood glowing brightly… and Caelith's navy blue eyes staring into mine. Her gaze was filled with a mix of shock and awe.

I looked down at my hands—still holding hers.Strange Greek letters were etched into my skin. They were black as ashes, and as painful as death.

I smiled. The pain felt good.Good enough to make someone addicted to it.

I glanced at Caelith's face again.Her expression hadn't changed.

I could no longer tell what she was feeling. It was like an emotion I'd never seen before—which meant I didn't know how to name it.

To be continued…
