The image of the man I didn't know stood behind the table and said the word "records," which indicated that the book lying on the table was the records it wanted me to find. Now that I'd found it, there were only two questions still on my mind at the time: the first being, "What is inside this book?" and the second, "Why did it want me to find it?"
What I didn't know at the time was that both these questions were going to be answered soon enough—but not in this round.
I walked up to the book. It was titled 神隠し Kamikakushi, meaning "hidden by the gods." The text was written in Japanese, but for some reason, I could understand what it was saying. This fact was confusing, seeing as I had never learned even a lick of Japanese prior to this moment. I didn't even know how I could tell it was Japanese.
But one thing was for certain—the secrets of the images were contained in the book.
I opened the book, and to my surprise, it was empty—just like the ones on the shelf in my mother's room. After flipping through the pages for several minutes, hoping to find a clue or something that would help me in my struggle against the creatures chasing after me and my mom, I noticed something odd.
No matter how many pages I flipped through, the book didn't seem to have an end.
And suddenly, something unexpected happened: the empty pages began to slowly fill with words.
My name is…...You probably can't read my name. That is because I most likely don't exist in this world anymore. But if you can read everything else in this book, then it means you've come in contact with this book—or a certain other object—before, depending on the time period.
But you most likely don't remember touching anything of the sort.
It also means you're probably being chased by certain entities that are trying to remove you. But first of all, I'd like to apologize. All the struggles you've gone through up until this point are my fault. It's my fault these things are in our world in the first place.
These entities are essentially one being, but they are split into different parts to target different people. They are Kamikakushi—an ancient Japanese god whose name means "hidden by the gods."
Now that I've told you all this, you're probably wondering what their goal is. But first, I'd like to ask you a question before I tell you what they're trying to do:
"Does anyone in this world still remember you?"
If your answer is no—or if only a small portion of people still remember you—then that means you've been afflicted by this curse for a lengthy period of time. Around maybe 3–4 years.
This is why most people you knew don't remember or notice you anymore. This is caused by the Kamikakushi—because, true to their name, they have the ability to hide. More specifically, they have the ability to remove someone from this world and take them to the realm where they come from, but carrying this out is very difficult even for a god so these creatures don't have the ability to remove someone at once instead by killing them, over and over again they remove something and transport ir to their world bit by bit it effectively erasing said person from existence. What they take could be your memories, your presence or other people's memories of you.
I have most likely fallen victim to this.
So has everyone else whose accounts are written in this book. They've most likely been erased.
You may be wondering: How does one become the target of the Kamikakushi? There are two main ways in which a person can become the target of the ancient god Kamikakushi:
By touching the object that connects our world to its world.
By being a descendant of the ..... clan—a former prominent family of Japanese origin which was in charge of coordinating the traditions and offerings for the god Kamikakushi.
But depending on the time you're reading this, that clan must have already fallen to the Kamikakushi. Which means there might only be one way of being cursed by the god now: by touching the object that connects our world to the world of the ancient god.
And if you're reading this, that means this book—which is the object that connects the two worlds—still exists.
Which means that the ancient god is still on a rampage.
After all I've told you, you must be thinking: "How am I supposed to fight a god?"
But do not fear, do not lose hope.
For these beings have a weakness
