Chapter 12 - CHAPTER 12

Aurora

"Come back to me…" I remembered hearing Darius' voice vaguely as I gently opened my eyes. I woke up on a king-size bed with the initials "D" beautifully crafted at the headboard. I looked around to see the interior decor of the Alpha Darius bedroom. It had a minimalistic setting but still kept an extingished aura. It was filled with imported pieces of furniture and expensive artworks. It also sculptured statues that aligned with the huge mahogany table at the corner of the room.

"This is the first time I'm seeing the inside of the alpha's room," I mumbled to myself. Before I could nourish my sight with its beauty, I felt a sharp pain.

"Ouch!" I grimaced as I felt a thunderous headache like a large drum beating in my brain. Suddenly, Raven rushed in quickly.

"What's wrong, Aurora?" She asked in a concerned voice. She had a worried facial expression, like she genuinely cared for me. It was different than the usual condescending, almost disdain look that I was accustomed to from her. She looked quite disturbed by my ordeal. I gradually snapped out of my daze.

"I'm fine..Raven.I just had a mild headache." I nervously replied. I wasn't sure what her response would be if I told her its severity. I clenched my fists to endure the pain, but it seemed to only prolong my suffering.

Luckily, Raven sensed my suffering and rushed out of the room. "Get the healer, she's awake!" She snapped. I could hear footsteps moving quickly in the distance. Raven returned to the room with a forced smile on her face.

"The healer will be here shortly, the Alpha ordered me to make sure you're taken care of. The healer is the best in the kingdom." Raven tried to comfort me with a soft voice. Her demeanor softened as the healer was announced outside the door.

"The healer is here!" said one of the she-wolves guarding the door. Raven opened the doors, and an elder lady in her sixties entered. She wore a plain black gown with spiritual ornaments around her neck. She had a facial tattoo on her face with the symbol of a wolf on it.

My heart beat accelerated as she approached me. A wave of anxiety washed over me as she waved some flames while chanting some inaudible incantation. She also had in her hand a cup with an unknown drink inside.

Surprisingly, she curved her lips slightly like she could read my facial expression. She slowly sat down close to me and stretched out the cup to me.

"Don't worry, child, it's an old recipe used to treat headaches, you will feel better immediately you drink it." I stared at her one more time and glanced at Raven. She nodded in agreement and gestured I trust her.

I took a deep sigh and gulped a large portion of the drink. It tasted like berries mixed with other ingredients. Immediately, the headache vanished, and I felt rejuvenated, like all my energy flowed through me at once. My eyes flickered with excitement as I caught the gaze of the healer. She had a grin on her face like confirmation of what she told me.

"Thank you, healer." She gently returned the cup to her after taking the last drop. She had a cheeky smile as she nodded in approval. She stood up slowly from the bed, glancing at Raven.

"She needs to rest for a few days, but she will recover totally quickly. She has a strong aura." The healer said to Raven, her eyes widened in shock as she heard those words. She quickly escorted the healer out and returned minutes later.

"I'm truly sorry for failing you, Aurora. The Alpha gave the task to protect you from any harm, and I failed. Pls forgive me." Raven said with a pitiful voice. She knelt on one knee in respect for me.

I froze for some seconds, but I snapped back quickly. "It's not your fault, Raven. I was reckless and stepped out of the palace without informing anyone. I'm the one to apologize-" I weakly tried to get out of the bed. However, Raven quickly rushed to my side.

"Pls don't-" Raven held me back and laid me down. "I promise not to let the alpha down ever again. You as well." Her eyes became darkened as she stood upright. Her face became serious and formal.

"That's the Raven I knew," I mumbled to myself quietly. I slightly nodded in agreement and tilted my head to rest on the soft pillow behind me.

"Where's Dar..Alpha Darius?" I asked in a calm voice. Raven had a mischievous smile as she gazed at me.

"He went out to find out who tried to hurt you. He was the one who found you. He also brought you into his room and never let you go. It was only this morning, shortly before you woke up, that he went out to chase some updates on your attackers. I have never seen him so worried about anyone else before."

My cheeks turned pink, blushing. Before I passed out, I saw the way he went after the burly men, like a wild beast. It was obvious from the sudden change in attitude from Raven and the tender care from the healer, I was someone who mattered and was important.

"I'm sure his just doing it since I'm his breeder." I thought to myself. From my past, I learnt not to have any high expectations, especially from alphas. His cold demeanor towards me only cemented my notions. Yet, a part of me kept a glimmer of hope that Darius truly cared for me.

Raven could tell I was lost in thought, so she abruptly stood up. "You need to get some rest so you can heal. I'll be right outside till our alpha returns." Raven said in a sarcastic tone. I shot a glare at her as she walked out of the room.

I slowly drifted off to sleep due to the drowsy effect of the drink. I kept dreaming of his heroic return.
