Who was this guy? A man wearing such strong perfume—it was disgusting. As a girl, she found it really off-putting when guys wore perfume like that.
Even Wang Yu thought it was strange for a man to be wearing such a strong scent.
But he'd seen plenty of men wearing perfume before, so he didn't say anything. Then, he went downstairs to handle his parents' hospital admission.
The paperwork was done quickly. Just the first day's fees, including surgery, totaled 50,000 yuan—completely draining all the money Wang Yu had saved over the years.
"This is way too expensive!" Liu Yunyun exclaimed in shock when she saw the bill Wang Yu brought back. Her voice trembled with worry. "What about the treatment costs after this?"
Wang Yu replied calmly, "Those bastards are going to pay for this."
"That's right," Liu Yunyun said through gritted teeth. "We can't let them get away with it."
"Yunyun, do you know where He Wei lives?" Wang Yu's expression suddenly darkened.
"Yes," Liu Yunyun nodded. "You're planning to go find him? But… going alone? Maybe we should call the police."
"No need. Let's go," Wang Yu said coldly. He was the police—why would he call them?
"Wait a minute. I've got a friend working here as a nurse. I'll ask her to look after your parents."
Liu Yunyun was thoughtful and thorough.
"Thank you for caring so much," Wang Yu said with a rare softness.
Once everything was arranged at the hospital, the two left and took a taxi. Wang Yu stopped by his home first. The newly tidied place was now a wreck—ruined and in shambles.
His eyes filled with fury. He threw a punch at the wall, leaving a deep dent in the solid stone. Liu Yunyun gasped in shock.
"Let's go!" Wang Yu growled, his face hard with rage as he turned and headed downstairs. Liu Yunyun hurried after him.
He Wei's place was in the Triangle District—a five-story villa that was the most luxurious home in the area. Truly a mansion.
When Liu Yunyun and Wang Yu arrived at the gate, it was locked tightly. No one was home.
"Wang Yu-ge, he's not home. What now?" Liu Yunyun asked helplessly.
"Does he have another place to stay?" Wang Yu stared coldly at the lavish house.
"He probably does, but I don't know where," Liu Yunyun answered apologetically.
"Hey, Liu Yunyun, what are you doing here?" a young voice suddenly called out. Four young guys strolled over, cigarettes dangling from their mouths. They didn't look like the most upstanding citizens.
Liu Yunyun turned around and immediately scolded them. "Wang Dajun! Out messing around again? Want me to tell your parents?"
Wang Dajun, the leader of the group, was short but built like a tank, with dark skin and a thug-like look on his face.
"Liu-jie, my parents are too busy getting divorced to care what I do," Wang Dajun said dismissively. "Is that your boyfriend?"
"You've got a new one? Good choice! That Yang Rui guy before didn't even look like a real man." His eyes drifted toward Wang Yu.
"Don't talk nonsense," Liu Yunyun replied, blushing. "You know who this is?"
"Who is he?" The boys all looked confused.
But the moment Wang Yu turned around, their jaws dropped. Cigarettes fell from their mouths without them noticing. One only reacted when the cigarette burned his foot.
"Ow!" Wang Dajun clutched his foot and screamed, then stared at Wang Yu in disbelief. "Y-you're Wang Yu?"
Wang Yu gave a faint smile. "What, don't recognize me anymore?"
"Whoa, it is you!" Wang Dajun shouted. "Guys, the boss is back!"
They all rushed forward, excited like they were seeing a celebrity.
Back in the day, "Boss" was the nickname they gave Wang Yu when they were kids playing war games. He was older, better at fighting, and always led the group, who played the role of soldiers.
After Wang Yu joined the army, Wang Dajun became their new leader.
"Damn, Boss, look at that build, that presence! We almost didn't recognize you," Wang Dajun exclaimed enviously.
"For real, Boss, when did you get back?" asked a bald guy. His name was Li Guang, another kid who'd always given his parents headaches.
"Boss, remember me? I'm Liao Congming," another one jumped in, flashing a mouth full of big teeth.
Wang Dajun smacked his head. "Smart, my ass. You've always had crap grades—single digits. I at least got into double digits!"
"Yep, twenty-one. That's high," Liu Yunyun chimed in with a smirk.
Wang Dajun's dark face turned red. "Hey, twenty-one is still two digits."
"Can't argue with that. Your face is as thick as ever," Liu Yunyun teased.
"Boss, remember my mom?" a booming voice interrupted. A guy as fat as a bear waddled over.
He gave Wang Yu a sloppy military salute like something from a TV show.
It was Zhang Xiaopang—used to be chubby and lovable, now just straight-up huge. He was nearly as tall as Wang Yu.
Compared to him, Liu Yunyun looked like a French fry next to a potato.
"Zhang Xiaopang?" Wang Yu almost didn't recognize him. "You need to lose weight."
"Hehe," Zhang Xiaopang scratched his head with a goofy grin.
"Don't count on it," Wang Dajun sighed. "You haven't seen him eat. The greasier, the better. Sometimes he skips rice and just eats lard!"
"Let's stop talking about Xiaopang," Li Guang cut in. "Boss is back! That means we can follow him now—haha!"
Before Wang Yu could respond, Liu Yunyun interrupted loudly. "Follow him? What for? Wang Yu would never be like you guys—wasting your lives just hanging around."
"Hey, Liu Yunyun, that's not fair! We've got dreams too," Wang Dajun said, putting on a serious face. "With Boss leading us, we'll definitely make something of ourselves. Maybe one day we'll be rich and famous. Just look at He Wei—he's got money, lackeys, and girls!"
As they talked about He Wei, their faces filled with envy.
