Chapter 15 - Chapter 15: Mental Failure

I've seen a few people mention that this book has already been translated, and I really appreciate the heads-up! That said, there are still readers who enjoy my version of the translation, so I may continue working on it. This is actually one of my most viewed and collected books, so for now, I'll be continuing it along with starting two other projects.

Also, I've launched a Patreon: patreon.com/Stxr_kali, feel free to become a member and support the journey!

Thanks so much, and I hope you enjoy! 💫

"This strange appearance certainly looks like a mutant."

Sersi, an Eternal with energy manipulation abilities who had alerted Ikaris, watched the video that had been uploaded to the internet repeatedly. She estimated that Ikaris should have flown to the scene by now since he was already in North America. However, appearing in public in modern society could easily cause trouble. After all, the last time they openly eliminated mutants was in the 16^(th) century. In the past, they could act with impunity, and their existence would be forgotten within decades. But now, with all sorts of recording devices, that was no longer possible.

Why had the mutants, who should have been exterminated long ago, suddenly reappeared? They feed on humans.

This strange appearance certainly looks like a mutant." Sersi, an Eternal with energy manipulation abilities, had alerted Ikaris. She repeatedly watched the video uploaded to the internet. She estimated that Ikaris, already in North America, should have flown to the scene by now. However, appearing in public in modern society could easily cause trouble. After all, the last time they had openly eliminated mutants was in the 16th century. In the past, they could act with impunity, and their existence would be forgotten within decades. But now, with all sorts of recording devices, that was no longer possible.

Why had the mutants, who should have been exterminated long ago, suddenly reappeared? They feed on humans!

"The Celestials gave us life, and we must use it to fulfill their will, to protect humans from mutant invasion. I hope Ikaris can confirm as soon as possible whether these beings we've never seen before are indeed mutants." Sersi didn't yet know that her trusted lover, driven by an unspoken psychological urge, had rashly classified Enzer as a mutant and begun to fight him. She soon found out, however, staring wide-eyed at the fierce confrontation between the two figures on the internet, a battle causing immense destruction.

"The situation is now clear. A man appeared out of nowhere, flew to New York at ten times the speed of sound, and confronted Enzer for unknown reasons."

Nick Fury pointed at the satellite's projected image, his face expressionless though his complexion had turned a frighteningly dark shade. "The energy monitoring satellite shows that this person possesses an astonishing energy signature. Where on Earth did this superhuman come from?" As the head of S.H.I.E.L.D., Fury was always prepared for various emergencies, but he loathed any unexpected variables. Soon, something even more unforeseen and terrifying occurred.

From the ruined laboratory where the Abomination had emerged, another majestic figure stepped out. "The Abomination? Has he joined forces with Enzer?" Maria Hill was surprised but quickly corrected herself. "That guy isn't the Abomination."

The satellite's AI constantly crunched data. Though its field of view was limited, the results were clear: in terms of size, this powerful individual was smaller than the original Abomination a "little guy."

"This is an alien," said Dum Dum Dugan after a moment of silence, his voice dry. "Maybe I remembered wrong. The Abomination, injured by the Hulk, returned to this laboratory, perhaps seeking the source of his transformation. Ultimately, what emerged wasn't the Abomination, but rather an alien that looked very similar." Everyone present was a seasoned top-tier agent, but at that moment, silence reigned. This brief scene conveyed a profound message that was horrifying and unbelievable, utterly shattering their previous understanding of the world and life itself. Could things truly be as they imagined?

"If so, then it makes sense that Enzer fought the Abomination before us," added Agent Coulson, who had just arrived with a furrowed brow and an air of unprecedented solemnity. They soon watched as Ikaris, a mysterious man, was about to attack Enzer for some reason. However, he was intercepted by a powerful alien who resembled the Abomination. A brutal fight erupted on the spot. Buildings were obliterated beyond recognition wherever the man and the alien passed. Solid, reinforced concrete structures seemed as fragile as paper to these two. It was an absolute, violent confrontation, a brutal fist-to-flesh assault with no defense, every opportunity used to land one more blow. Pure physical combat was enough.

The bloody confrontation made Fury and the others frown. They remained silent for a long time. This level of destructive force was heartbreaking. Especially if Enzer had used the Abomination's power to create a new alien in some mysterious way.

"I thought he was a minor character, someone we just needed to keep an eye on. But I didn't expect him to be such a tough opponent." Fury broke the silence. "He also took advantage of us, using this opportunity to acquire an incredibly powerful alien."

"Boss, I feel like this new alien is much stronger than the Abomination, and it's still getting stronger. It's only been a short time, yet its strength seems to be gradually catching up to that of the mysterious man. It's almost like..." "The Hulk," Fury finished. "What we speculated is likely true. Combined with Enzer's capture of several vampires, we can draw a preliminary conclusion. We just don't know how he allowed the alien to obtain the power of different life forms."

"There are only a few possible explanations: organ transplant surgery, engulfment, or genetic deprivation. But all of the above take time. From the moment Enzer attacked the Abomination until now, how much time has actually passed?" Coulson racked his brain but couldn't make sense of the timeline. "Raise Enzer's threat level four levels. He should be our primary focus and target for containment," Fury declared. Was there really a creature that could seize power and grow at such an accelerated rate?

Everyone at S.H.I.E.L.D. underestimated Enzer. They had been played in this incident, becoming mere background for the rise of a new, powerful force. This was an incredibly frustrating feeling. Meanwhile, Enzer was in an exceptionally good mood. He watched the fierce battle between the two figures from afar, feeling immense gratification.

Initially, the newly born Abomination alien was at a disadvantage, often enduring several blows before managing to land a blow on Ikaris. But, as time went on, the Abomination alien's terrifying potential was revealed. It was born by absorbing the Abomination's best genes—the Hulk genes, to put it bluntly! The more they fought, the angrier the Abomination alien became, and the stronger it grew!

This incredible increase in power was so unbelievable that even Ikaris found it hard to believe. After only a few rounds, the "mutant" he knew could already fight him blow for blow! Punches were no longer enough. Even his heat vision could only scorch the metallic armor of the Abomination alien, unable to pierce its inner defenses.

Ikaris's only advantage was that he could fly. He just couldn't believe that the creature in front of him could evolve wings spontaneously!

"No matter what you are, since you're willing to fight for that human, I'll kill him!" A flash of murderous intent appeared in Ikaris's eyes. He punched the Abomination alien's chest, knocking it back. Then, he unleashed a searing gaze and flew high into the sky, abandoning the alien to kill Enzer. If the aliens around Enzer were so powerful, then Enzer himself, as their controller, might not be as strong. He could be stronger or weaker.

But the Abomination alien possessed a fierce fighting instinct. It couldn't fly, but with its thick thighs and powerful tail, it leaped straight towards Ikaris, grabbing his thigh with its broad palm, pulling him down from the sky. With another claw, it tore open Ikaris's battle suit, leaving a trail of blood.

When powerful life forms clash, once they become familiar with each other's strength, they generally play their cards openly. Ikaris wanted to escape, but was repeatedly thwarted. The more they fought, the more Ikaris's composure shattered, and he was even injured! He had been willing to expose himself to billions of humans just to silence them, intending to use these "mutants" as a trump card for himself, but the outcome was turning out like this?

"I can't fight anymore. Even if I could beat this damn thing, it would be meaningless." Ikaris gritted his teeth. After the battle, he realized that the creature wasn't a mutant after all. Its shape changes were normal muscle expansion and bone changes, fundamentally different from the energy-converting bodies of true mutants. Even worse, it was clear that several incredibly powerful people on Earth had already noticed him and the Eternals. "Enough! So far, they are not mutants!" Ikaris shouted. "Well said. I have also confirmed one thing. You are the evil mutant and mortal enemy of all mankind!" Enzer's righteous voice echoed back.
