Chapter 6 - "Enter: Superman Spider-Man."

-----

-----

Same old country road heading out of town.

Same old vintage Chevrolet, with the same family of three inside.

But this time, they were headed back home—from the farm to their place in Queens, New York.

And this time, Peter's mood was completely different from when they first came out.

"Cause it's hard for me to lose,In my life I've found only time will tell..."

His right hand rested casually on the car window, fingers tapping along with the mellow tune.

Sunlight poured in through the window, lighting up Peter's face like it was brushed with gold dust.

Watching the scenery fly by outside, his heart felt light, like it was floating.

Slowly, he closed his eyes, soaking in the peace and quiet.

This time, he didn't complain about how slow the old car was.

Anywhere with sunshine felt like heaven to Peter now.

But of course, every journey has to end eventually.

No idea how long it had been—maybe a few hours.

When Peter opened his eyes again, the view outside had completely changed.

Skyscrapers were starting to appear on the horizon.

The once empty roads were now buzzing with cars and pedestrians.

The sound of people chatting and horns blaring blended into a chaotic urban soundtrack.

And it instantly reminded Peter of the crazy experience he'd had just the day before.

"New York City—the most famous city in the whole Marvel Universe."

Feeling the lively city around him, Peter couldn't help but get a little emotional.

Soon, this place would become the most dangerous hotspot in the Marvel Universe. Alien Chitauri armies would pour in through giant wormholes in the sky.

"Good thing that playboy billionaire hasn't been kidnapped yet. I've still got time to power up even more."

"Besides, even if things went south right now, I'm already stronger than '50-50 Cap.' I can totally protect myself—and the people I care about."

Peter, having awakened part of his Superman powers, wasn't worried about the incoming crisis.

Screeech—

Just as Peter was lost in thought, the sudden sound of tires skidding jerked him back to reality.

"Whew, not a crash."

Realizing it wasn't an accident, Peter held back from jumping in to protect Uncle Ben and Aunt May.

Instead, he acted like a normal kid being jolted by the sudden stop and asked in a slightly panicked voice, "Uncle Ben, what happened?"

"Sorry, Peter. I didn't see those pedestrians run out in front of us."

Uncle Ben hadn't expected to suddenly run into a big crowd of protestors while driving peacefully.

Peter still hadn't figured out what this protest was about—

When someone wearing a Spider-Man mask popped up at his window out of nowhere: "Hey, dude."

The guy, acting super friendly, said, "You look like you're in high school too. Wanna join us and support Spider-Man?"

"Nah, I'm good. Sorry."

Peter held back the urge to punch the guy and politely declined.

"Alright then, here—take this. Hope you can become one of our Spider-Man Fan Club members someday."

Seeing Peter wasn't interested, the guy didn't push it. He just tossed something into the car and ran off.

Then he kept yelling slogans like "Spider-Man is a hero of justice!" and rallying the crowd to join in.

"Looks like we missed something big."

Uncle Ben carefully navigated the car through the protest crowd, letting out a sigh.

"Yeah, something interesting for sure."

Peter glanced down at the red Spider-Man mask in his hand and smiled.

Another mission popped up as the system refreshed.

[1] Show the world you're a kind and compassionate Superman. Stop a crime in progress and shout "I am Superman" at the scene.Reward: 100 points, randomly awaken one ability.

[2] With great power... comes great partying.

[3] …

The mission choices were almost exactly the same as before.

"Looks like if I keep picking option three, the missions won't refresh on their own."

Peter had stayed on the farm for a whole week, and for almost that entire week, he kept picking the third option.

"Open my stats panel."

Thanks to absorbing solar energy at 10x the normal rate, Peter had managed to awaken two Superman abilities in just a few days.

And the first one he awakened—his Man of Steel body—was no longer just newly activated.

At this point, even though he still couldn't tank a nuke head-on, he could eat an RPG or grenade blast no problem.

His speed and durability were already far beyond any normal human.

Still, the one power he was dying to unlock—flight, or rather, the "bio-field"—was still a no-show.

"Well, not bad at all. Honestly, this is way faster than how Superman progresses in the movies."

Peter was more than satisfied. He remembered in that Superman TV show from his last life, the strongest Superman didn't even unlock flight until the final season.

"Since I'm strong enough now, I guess it's time to try a different kind of mission."

Truthfully, Peter was getting antsy—he really wanted to test out the other types of missions.

"But... option one or two? Which should I pick?"

He hesitated for a moment.

"Screw it. Let's go with this one!"

Finally, Peter made up his mind and picked option two.

He chose it because he figured that if he went with the first option, the missions after that would probably keep pushing him down the "classic Superman" path.

And yeah, he might be Superman now, but he definitely didn't have Superman's bleeding heart.

He wasn't really into playing superhero babysitter.

"But I can't just walk out the front door like this. I'd probably have people surrounding my house the next day."

If he was gonna stir up trouble, Peter knew he had to hide his identity.

Just as he was wondering how to pull that off, his eyes landed on something he'd casually tossed on his desk a while back.

"Hmm… yeah, you'll do!"

He grabbed the Spider-Man mask, dug through his closet for the almost-forgotten Spidey suit, then crawled under the bed and pulled out two small devices he'd built after arriving in this world. He strapped one onto each wrist.

"Still a little tight, but not bad at all."

Admiring his reflection in the mirror, Peter was pretty pleased with his look.

Next second, he popped the window open and, without a second thought, leapt right out from the second floor.

"Super-Spider-Man, let's go!"

"....."
