Chapter 5 - Chapter 5 "Quinn's Secret" (Part 1)

Before Quinn was transported to the military school, he had just arrived home from school. It was the last day of school. The bus was going to pick him up in a few hours from now on so he had some time to himself before the bus arrived. When Quinn finally arrived home, he immediately went to his room and sat on his bed. During the war with the Dalki, Quinn's parents were told to fight for their planet. Not only were Quinn's parents told to fight for their planet but every individual disregarding gender, were told to fight for their planet.

With no clue of why the Dalki had suddenly appeared, the Dalki had immediately demanded that the Human race hand over their resources and become their slaves. Well of course, the humans had decided to fight back, but they quickly found out that their modern technology was no use against them. Bullets could not penetrate through their skins and for tanks, the Dalki had airships. After the war human greed got the better of humanity, instead of sharing the power of the abilities with everyone else, the higher-ranked governmental officials had decided to keep it for themselves. Only people with money could learn more powerful abilities while everyone else was left with scraps.

It was something that needed to be done. Poverty had taken over the world, but people who had powers were using them uncontrollably, unlike before. Quinn was given nothing when his parents died. The government had agreed to pay for his living expenses while he was still in school, but that was all it. When his parents died, Quinn being at the age of ten, an agent from the military had appeared at his doorstep and handed him a book. He was told that this book was the only thing that his parents possessed - One that they had passed down when they died. "Why is the world so unfair?" Quinn uttered, lamenting about his situation.

Getting out of his bed, he started sauntering towards his desk. He picked up his glasses which were slightly broken. He noticed that one of the lenses was slightly out of place, and tried to pinch it back into its frame. "Come on! Just get in!" He shouted as he tried to forcefully fix the glasses. The frustration that he had been bottling up was on his face as he struggled furiously with the lens. Unfortunately, the lens had suddenly crumbled into pieces, and one of the shards of plastic even created a deep gash within his thumb. He screamed and kicked at the desk. "Why does this world hate me?"

After a while, he calmed down and started to clean up the little pieces of glass, he noticed that a piece had landed on top of his book that his parents had passed down to him. As Quinn removed the piece of glass, a drop of blood from his thumb had landed on top of the book. The book was a large, thick hard-bound book, weighing about half a kilo. The front cover of the book was in a color that mimicked a lighter shade of blood. In the center, solitary fronts of an upper and lower jaw bone could be seen, both colored in a swampy shade of brown. The upper jaw had some sort of four separate fangs. Meanwhile, the lower one had two sharp teeth on the two far ends on the overhead and five evenly spaced underneath. The object that was plastered on the center of the book started to glow, and suddenly, the book began to float, hovering up until it was on eye-level with Quinn.

Quinn quickly took a few steps back away from it. The glow from the book made his room look empiter with the little bed in the corner and the chair beside it. "What the hell is happening?!" The book started to emit a blinding radiance as it shook uncontrollably. A few seconds later, the book finally opened up, and pages after pages were being turned. Quinn couldn't take his eyes off of the shining book. It was as if he was put in a deep trance. The words written on the pages of the book were not in any language that he had seen before. For some reason, Quinn felt like he could understand it. When the book reached its last page, it started to disappear, gradually turning into dust. At the same time, Quinn's body suddenly felt weak. Quinn's vision was starting to fade as he started to pass out. But just before he passed out, there was a single message that he heard.

Unable to maintain consciousness long enough to hear the final words, Quinn passed out.
