Chapter 1 - Prologue

The Great Evil has finally been slain, and the seemingly never-ending [Great World War] has ended with its death.

People across the world are celebrating, knowing they no longer have to live under constant fear and pressure.

Slaves have been freed, and the slave merchants are executed.

The poor can now find jobs to support themselves, and the rich have begun donating to help the homeless.

The world finally seems to be heading in the right direction. Peace, hope, and change are in the air.

But what about me?

---

Center of the Yerala Kingdom.

A group of people are tied and being dragged through the streets. As they walk, they're pelted with tomatoes, eggs, and even… feces.

At the back of the line walks a man with black hair and sharp, slit-like eyes. With a face full of confidence, he effortlessly dodges every flying object—as if he's done nothing wrong.

That man is me.

"I want to go home."

My name is Rain, and I was the butler of the so-called [Great Evil]. Today, I'm about to be executed alongside my fellow servants.

You might ask—what horrible crime did I commit to deserve death?

The answer is simple:

…I didn't do anything.

I was just a genuine butler who cared deeply for my master. Nothing more, nothing less. But somehow, I ended up blamed—just for doing my job.

"It's not like I did anything wrong..."

A tomato soars through the air and splatters right against my face.

"I should've killed you the day we met."

'Who is that guy...?'

Still, I have better things to think about than dwelling on my death.

It takes us the entire day to reach the town square. From a distance, I can already see the scaffold.

Judging by the setup, it looks like we'll be burned at the stake.

As the servants in front step into the square, the crowd erupts—throwing anything they can find.

And then out of nowhere a massive axe hurtles through the air. It flies clean through the crowd and lands squarely on my neck, beheading me instantly.

My mind goes blank. My vision turns dark. My head hits the ground, and blood begins pouring from my neck.

「"This is not how you're supposed to die..."」

Snap

---

I open my eyes and find myself inside a bathtub filled with a black liquid—it's surprisingly fragrant.

"Another dud..." I mutter.

The room is exactly the same, even after everything that just happened.

Moss-covered walls, shattered mirrors scattered across the floor, and dim lighting... it all feels strangely nostalgic.

The door creaks open, and a woman walks in.

She has silver hair, a black veil covering her head, and is dressed in black from head to toe. She carries a black suitcase.

"17,894 times. You've died 17,894 times—and you didn't even make it to the checkpoint this time… Sigh..."

She sits beside me and starts playing with my hair.

"What's my purpose again?"

She stops and looks me in the eyes, touching my face gently with a pitying expression.

"Did you forget again?"

"Again? What do you mean aga—"

Ah. Right. Now I remember.

I have Alzheimer's. Is it a side effect of all these death loops? Who knows.

But I guess I'll be fine...

…as long as I have the Witch's guidance.
