As the timer hit zero, Vera began manipulating her mana to change the terrain of the arena. Several buildings sprang up, with some being as tall as skyscrapers, and some were just normal bungalows.
To think she changed the terrain to her advantage as her first move, Lex thought as he watched her move from different buildings.
Vulcanets, Lex thought as the three combat drones the system gave to him appeared beside him, before spreading out in multiple directions. If they don't engage in combat, the mana cell in them should last up to 12 hours, enough to finish up with Vera. He thought while he shared his senses with the drones through mana.
There she is, Lex thought as he brought out his frostbite blade. As he walked, he suddenly felt like he had stepped on something. She dropped mines in her path, but why were the drones unable to see them? From the looks of it, they are only at the basic tier.
Suddenly, a bullet whistled from his front, and he was barely able to avoid it. Shit, his reaction is too fast, Vera thought from the tower she was as she moved to another place.
I need to think of a way to leave here asap, or she will continue to shoot me, and I will be unable to counter.
Vulcanet 3, activate defusal. Lex communicated to the vulcanet telepathically. Soon, a drone got to his side and started emitting a gentle pulse that fell on the mine. Another bullet soon shot towards him, but was narrowly blocked by a thin barrier that he constructed. Vulcanet 1 and 2, distract her till we are done here, he said to the other drones.
I have to end this quickly, I can't keep these structures up for long, or my mana will get exhausted, she thought to herself.

As she positioned herself for another shot, several energy bolts were fired at her from behind, and turning around, she saw the two drones. Damn these annoying drones, she said with a furious expression as she drew out her blade.
First the rifle, and now the drones. I don't understand how someone would keep two trump cards even from friends.
While she was busy with the drones, she failed to notice Lex standing 10m away from her. As if connected by a hive mind, the two drones flew towards her back in sync. She tried to use the opportunity to destroy them, but as she saw the person behind her, she froze as she tried to run away.
Lex swung his blade calmly at the escaping Vera, causing an arc to appear which beheaded her easily.
Lex Vortan wins, the instructor said as the audience erupted in cheers. I was this close to winning, if not for those stupid drones, Vera said to Lex as they appeared on their seats.
