Chapter 7 - THE BOND WE BREAK

Jaxon Voxx

I left Astrid's room with a slight smirk liked the look of amusement on her face.

No sex.

I smirked wider.

I'll make her regret that "no sex" clause. Make her beg for it, I told my already hard cock bulging against my shorts.

I went to take a shower. Afterward, shirtless and wearing only shorts, I sat at my desk, mind drifting back to when I first met Aveline.

It was at the Lupino estate in Ashwood. I was 25 then, taking a stroll. We don't usually visit Ashwood since half my life has been in Milan born and raised there. I only go there now because of Grandpa.

That day, I decided to tour the estate. I saw her standing at the far end near the back door. She looked like she'd sneaked in.

The moment I saw her, my wolf let out a low growl of excitement, she was in her wolf form.

She quickly shifted back into human form. God damn, she was beautiful.

She was about 5'9" with thick, curly dark brown hair and silver-gray eyes, always wide and curious.

Her round face, tiny button nose, and small pouty mouth made her laugh infectious. I loved that laugh ,though she always said it wasn't funny.

We hit it off and became friends. She was 20.

I later took her to meet Grandpa, and strangely, they got along well.

I remember when we first mated ,how badly she wanted me to mark her, which I did. But then she did shitty things with Rafael and Shumel. I'll never forgive them for what they did.

She cheated and broke that bond, shattered everything we had. I almost went mad.

My wolf became depressed, sick, and she literally laughed in my face.

From that day, I swore to treat women like shit ,Wolf or human, I don't care. They're all the same.

Funny thing is, I asked her why she did it. She said it was curiosity. I guess curiosity got the best of her.

Even after she hurt me and died, I still cared for her. I took the blame for her death because if the pack ever found out how she died, it would have been disastrous and shameful for a deceased.

That was my way of protecting her honor.

A knock jolted me back to the present.

"Who the hell is that?" I growled.

"Come in," I said angrily.

The door opened, and before she stepped in, my wolf sensed her and growled low.

Easy, I told myself. Don't scare the little human.

It was strange though first time since Aveline that I was actually getting excited about someone.

"Erm… good morning," she said nervously.

"Morning," I replied flatly.

Her eyes drifted to my shirtless torso. She muttered "damn" under her breath. I heard it but pretended not to.

"What do you want?" I asked.

"Well, I was worried. It's noon and you haven't come out. Madam Pat told me to call you down for brunch," she said.

I glanced at the clock. "Wait, it's noon already? How long was I out?"

"I'll be out in a bit," I said.

As she turned to leave, I noticed what she was wearing, a black trouser that hugged her curves and a simple white polo, no bra. Her nipples peeked through.

The clothes looked good on her.

Of course they would ,I spent time changing her entire wardrobe with rich, classy clothes, shoes, and feminine things. Even the damn room was redone. And she didn't even say thank you.

With her nipple peeking out like that... God damn, was she trying to seduce me?

If that was her plan, she was already halfway there.

"Didn't you say in the contract not to bother each other? So why are you checking up on me?" I asked with a wicked grin.

She muttered, "Jerk."

"What did you do with my clothes?" she demanded.

"I threw them in the trash. They were so worn out and cheap even the homeless would reject them," I replied.

She gave me a wicked side-eye, then stormed out, slamming the door behind her.

"No thank you?" I yelled after her.

Thirty minutes later, after freshening up, I went out for brunch.

The table was set with cake, desserts, apple juice, pancakes, and fried rice. Madam Pat had made everything, and one of the maids served us.

Madam Pat raised me since birth ,my mom died giving birth to me. She's the only woman, alongside Luca and Victor, who knows we're werewolves. They never cared, and have always been loyal.

Mom died during childbirth. Dad hated me for it, couldn't deal with losing her. He turned to drugs and alcohol.

Six years later, Dad was drunk driving with my uncle, Dad's brother . They crashed into a moving truck and both died.

Sometimes I wonder why Uncle's called Nightshade and Dad was Voxx.

I'm a replica of Dad. The only thing I got from Mom are my eyes.they're hers.

Madam Pat is like a mother to me. No matter how arrogant or cocky I act, that side of me stays outside the penthouse because I can't afford to bring it home to her.

"Eat, child," Madam Pat said, patting my head.

"How was the launch party last night?" she asked.

"Fine," I replied dryly.

"Astrid, darling, why don't you call your friend over? There's more than enough food," Madam Pat said kindly.

I watched as Astrid picked up her phone. A few minutes later, her friend was inside. They sat, eating and chatting.

After they finished, Freya was about to clear her plate, but Madam Pat stopped her.

"There's someone for you," she said.

Astrid dragged Freya with her, heading to her room.

I called out, "Astrid." She turned, looking cute.

"Be ready by 4. We're going out," I said.

"Freya's coming too. If you refuse, I won't come," she said.

"Then I'll have Luca tie you up and bundle you in the car," I said, voice laced with anger.

"Fine," she retorted angrily, dragging Freya along.

"Child, take it easy with her. That's not the way to talk to a woman," Madam Pat warned.

"I don't care," I replied.

I finished eating and went to my study.
