Chapter 6 - Family Lunch

Unedited.

The Redmond mansion stood tall and proud, built with the finest materials. Jasmine felt a wave of nostalgia hit her.

Now standing in front of the mansion, she sucks in a deep breath. She knew what she was to expect.

Each step she took was heavy. She didn't go through the entrance. Mrs. Vera Redmond, Keras mom, invited some of her friends over for lunch.

They were currently seated in the sitting room. No one was aware of Jasmine's existence aside from the members of the household. Of course Mrs. Redmond would not want Jasmine to walk through the sitting room.

There was no way she'd explain her presence. A girl wearing the same uniform as Kera would surely spark speculations and rumors. So she sent the butler to stop her at the entrance and take her through the back door.

Aware that the butler would be waiting for her at the entrance, Jasmine decided to walk past the back door by herself. And just as she thought, the door was opened

She didn't stop until she got to her room. She opened the door, closed it, then leaned on the closed door.

She closed her eyes for a moment, steading her breath.

"When she opened it, she was greeted by a familiar sight. The bed was dressed in pink and purple, and so were the curtains."

In the entire mansion, this was her only space, she referred to it as her home. She spent most of her time here.

Taking her first step, she felt a wave of different emotions hit her. After this room, her next home was Liam.

"What is he doing?" She wondered at the same time she placed her backpack on the table. She walked to the bathroom and opened the door.

Everything was the same and so was the walk in closet.

She smiled, at least she has her space in this shitty world too.

Jasmine threw herself on the bed and spread her legs and hands apart, staring at the ceiling.

She smiled at the smell of the bed. She missed the feel of this sheet under her hands. She didn't leave the house in the most pleasant way but she was glad to be back in her room.

She sat up and picked her notepad, taking her pen off it, she began scribbling.

"April 18, 20025, jumped off the bridge into the sea after Liam's funeral."

"Woke up ten years earlier."

She bit the top of her pen, "things are repeating. I avoided some. I can also speak."

"What can this mean?"

There were many things she didn't understand, and she planned to crack them.

Her stomach rumbled and at the same time she heard a knock. She raised her pillow and threw the notepad underneath it before walking to the door.

Opening it, she came face to face with Madame Mitchell the butler.

Madame Mitchell's brows are creased in a frown.

Jasmine stood between the door, "how did you get in?" Madam Mitchell asked. She had been waiting for Jasmine at the entrance.

Jasmine was about to speak but she stopped herself. At this point she has selective mutism. She lowered her gaze, but could still feel Madam Mitchell glare.

She went into her room and pulled a notepad sitting on her nightstand.

"I walked through the backdoor." She scribbled and turned it to her.

"Who told you to?"

Jasmine's lower lips disappeared into her mouth as she racked her brain. There was no way she could tell her she knew everything that would happen.

"I wanted to come in unnoticed. And the back door is closer."

She knew Madame Mitchell didn't like her and worked closely with Mrs. Redmond to make her life miserable.

"Freshen up and come down stairs." There was a pause, "Wear something fitting, there are guests." Jasmine nodded and closed the door when Madam Mitchell turned around.

She listened until Madam Mitchell's footsteps faded before walking to her bed. She had forgotten about this part.

For some reason, she was invited to have lunch with the women.

Jasmine took a quick shower and slid into something simple before walking downstairs.

Kera was seated next to her mom on the dining table.

There were three other women which Jasmine recognised as the same women from her previous life. She sat opposite Kera.

Kera didn't spared her a glance.

"And here is the lady we've been waiting for." Mrs. Redmond spoke. "Isn't she cute?"

"I won't associate her with cuteness." They were already eating when Jasmine walked in. One of the maids standing at the side walked to her side, ready to serve her but Jasmine waved her off.

In the past, she had not eaten enough because she was served little food by the maid as instructed by Mrs. Redmond. And she didn't finish it because she was indirectly mocked all through the lunch.

This time, she made a silent resolve not to allow their words get her.

She took big portions of the food on the table ignoring the look thrown to her by Mrs Redmond.

The conversation had shifted to Kera and how she was doing very well in school.

Jasmine was glad they weren't talking about her, but her joy was cut short by the next sentence, "If she keeps eating like this, soon, you'll have to double every door." One of the women said.

Mrs. Redmond tried to laugh it off while sending a small glare at Jasmine's direction.

She invited Jasmine for a show, to paint herself as a virtuous woman who didn't care about looks, but now, Jasmine was embarrassing her in front of her friends.

"But I think it's cute." The second woman said.

"I don't think so. Whose relative is she?"

"She's my distant cousin." Mrs. Redmond replied. Jasmine paused but didn't lift her head.

She remembered crying herself to sleep after lunch. She was her father's daughter too.

But this time, she didn't mind, she just resumed eating, ignoring the remark.

This isn't the first time she would be introduced as anything but her father's daughter.

"Hey dear, what is your name?" The third woman asked, a small smile perched on her lips.

"Ja…smi...ne," Jasmine said between mouthfuls of food, facing the woman, as a piece of food flew onto the woman's face.
