The calm after the midterm storm was supposed to be a time for peace, rest, and maybe binge-watching a drama or two.
But with Jin-woo and Yuna in the dorm, "calm" was always relative.
It started on a quiet Sunday morning.
Jin-woo woke up with a brilliant idea — or, as Yuna would later call it, "another one of his schemes destined for chaos."
He stretched dramatically, then looked at Yuna's bunk bed, where she was still peacefully asleep.
"Today," Jin-woo thought, "I will claim the coveted top bunk."
Why?
Because the top bunk was rumored to have the best view of the campus skyline, a breeze from the window, and most importantly, bragging rights.
Jin-woo was not a guy to miss out on bragging rights.
He approached Yuna with all the seriousness of a general declaring war.
"Noona," he began, trying to sound diplomatic, "I propose a trade. You take my bottom bunk, and I take your top bunk."
Yuna opened one eye lazily. "You want to switch?"
"Yes! It's for the greater good of... um, better sleep."
She smirked. "And what's in it for me?"
Jin-woo pulled out a hastily scribbled list:
Unlimited ramen refills
First dibs on the laundry machine
Occasional trash duty forgiveness
Yuna raised an eyebrow.
"Hmm… tempting, but I'm pretty comfy down here."
That was when the "roommate rivalry" officially began.
Jin-woo camped out near the ladder, practicing his top bunk climbing skills — which mostly involved tripping over the ladder and falling into his laundry basket.
Yuna, meanwhile, refused to budge, jokingly threatening to "booby trap" the ladder with laundry and random textbooks.
Over the next few days, the dorm became a battlefield of pranks.
Jin-woo found his toothpaste replaced with wasabi (courtesy of Yuna).
He retaliated by swapping Yuna's shampoo with slime-like jelly.
Their battles escalated to leaving passive-aggressive notes:
"Top bunk not claimed yet. Lonely up here — Jin-woo""Bottom bunk stays loyal. Noona's domain — Yuna"
Despite the "warfare," the two couldn't help but laugh whenever one prank backfired spectacularly.
One morning, Jin-woo tried to sneak onto the top bunk — only to be greeted by a bucket of confetti raining down from above.
"Okay, okay, truce?" Jin-woo called out, brushing confetti from his hair.
Yuna grinned. "Only if you promise no more slime shampoo."
Their truce was short-lived.
Enter the wildcard: Minji, the cheerful dormmate from Room 403 who loved drama and snacks equally.
She caught wind of the "roommate rivalry" and immediately tried to mediate.
"I think you guys should just share the top bunk!" she suggested enthusiastically.
"Share the top bunk?" Jin-woo blinked.
Yuna laughed. "You mean, like, a bunk bed for two people on the same bunk?"
Minji nodded seriously. "Exactly! It's like dorm-life innovation!"
That night, Jin-woo and Yuna debated the logistics of "double top bunking."
They tried to fit both of them on the ladder — which ended in a tangled heap on the floor and a new nickname for Jin-woo: "Human Pretzel."
Despite the silliness, the rivalry sparked a new appreciation for their odd little family.
Yuna admitted, "You're annoying, but you make dorm life way more interesting."
Jin-woo grinned. "And you're my partner in crime. Top bunk or bottom, I'm not moving out anytime soon."
Later, as they lay in their respective bunks, Yuna called up.
"Hey, Jin-woo?"
"Yeah?"
"Thanks for making college feel like home."
He smiled in the dark.
"Anytime, noona."
