Chapter 9 - 9

Zhang Ye had basically settled the firearms issue, which made him feel much more at ease.

In the apocalypse, having something like this gave him tremendous confidence—whether he was facing humans or non-humans.

The next day, Zhang Ye packed some important items from his home into his space.

He planned to turn his house into a secure shelter, so he temporarily moved into a hotel.

Early in the morning, three black vans drove into the Yuelu residential area.

A large group of workers in uniforms from the Zhanlong Company stepped out and began measuring data for Zhang Ye's house.

Many neighbors watching were full of curiosity.

"Did Zhang Ye take the wrong meds recently? Why is he always doing weird stuff?"

A few coworkers laughed and added, "Exactly! I saw him at the supermarket the other day—he bought three full carts of food!"

"Haha! You'd think the world's ending or something. Hoarding that much food—it'll just expire and go to waste!"

"Maybe he's having some mental issues!"

Everyone found Zhang Ye's behavior strange, but nobody really cared. They just saw him as a joke.

Even Fang Yuqing and Lin Caining thought Zhang Ye had gone crazy.

Lin Caining suddenly said, "I get it now! No wonder he went to a Michelin three-star restaurant that day. He must be out of his mind!"

Fang Yuqing frowned, feeling quite annoyed.

Thinking back to how she even went over to talk to him that day and helped push all that stuff back to his place—her legs were sore from the effort. Now she was just full of resentment.

"What exactly is Zhang Ye up to?"

Lin Caining looked a little worried. "He did promise to treat us to a big meal. He's not going to forget, is he?"

She had been dreaming about eating at a Michelin restaurant.

Fang Yuqing just scoffed. "Forget it! With how crazy he's been acting, I wouldn't go even if he invited me."

"If someone saw us eating with him, how embarrassing would that be?"

She was planning to marry rich in the future—she couldn't afford to ruin her reputation.

Lin Caining, hearing that, felt reluctant but had no choice and gave up the idea.

As for Zhang Ye, he didn't care what the neighbors thought.

In a month, they'd understand who the real joke was.

He left home and drove to the Walmart warehouse.

It was Monday, so he needed to go to work anyway—and he planned to thoroughly inspect the warehouse to prepare for the future.

The Walmart warehouse was in the economic development zone, on the outskirts of Tianhai City.

Because the land there was cheaper, many large companies had set up their warehouses in the area.

Even some pharmaceutical companies had storage facilities there.

This would make it easier for Zhang Ye to get his hands on essential medicine later.

After arriving, Zhang Ye clocked in as usual.

As the warehouse supervisor, he was extremely familiar with the place.

He knew every warehouse and even every single shelf like the back of his hand.

In the past, coming to work always felt boring.

But today, seeing all these massive warehouses and the tens of billions worth of supplies, he couldn't help but feel thrilled.

Because soon, all of this would be his—his most crucial resources for surviving the apocalypse.

As the southern regional hub for Walmart, this warehouse held more supplies than anyone could imagine.

There were tens of thousands of crates of Coca-Cola alone!

The warehouse covered over a million square meters, packed to the brim with daily necessities.

Beyond food, clothes, and hardware tools...

There were even cars, drones, diesel generators, and barrels of gasoline.

Basically, if a supermarket was allowed to sell it, you could find it here.

Zhang Ye had worked here for years and knew exactly what was on every shelf.

He was also well aware of the shift schedules and the locations of the security cameras.

Despite the strict surveillance, he knew all the blind spots. If needed, he could disable the entire monitoring system in ten minutes.

Then, using his dimensional space ability, he could take everything.

But for now, Zhang Ye wasn't in a rush.

He still had plenty of time, and he didn't want to raise any suspicion.

After strolling around the warehouse, he left.

He brought a pack of premium cigarettes and headed next door to Ruining Pharmaceutical Company's warehouse.

Since they worked in the same area, he was familiar with the staff there.

He approached a warehouse manager named Zhou Hairun.

They all knew each other well.

Big company warehouses always had people secretly skimming off the inventory.

Zhou Hairun's brother-in-law was the VP of Ruining Group.

So, Zhou often stole medications to sell under the table.

Zhang Ye had a casual chat with him, then subtly revealed his goal.

He wanted to get a few crates of special medications for emergency use.

Zhou Hairun was cautious at first.

But once Zhang Ye offered double the market price, he couldn't resist.

In the end, they made a deal: five large crates of medicine for three million yuan.

For a regular person, that much medicine would last more than a lifetime.

With the medicine secured, Zhang Ye was nearly done preparing all the supplies he needed for the apocalypse.

With less than a month left until doomsday, he had no interest in continuing to work.

So he went to the warehouse manager's office and lied that an elder relative in his hometown had passed away. He requested a twenty-day leave to attend the funeral.

Zhang Ye had a good reputation and a friendly relationship with the manager.

So even though the leave request was a bit much, it was approved without issue.

In the following days, Zhang Ye planned to relax comfortably in a five-star hotel...

While waiting for his supplies to arrive and his secure shelter to be completed.

Just as he stepped out of the manager's office, he saw Fang Yuqing bending over at the coffee machine.

To be fair, the woman did have a certain seductive charm—there was a flirtatiousness in her very bones.

Even making coffee, she couldn't help but sway her hips.

Sure enough, a few eager young men were drawn in, trying to flirt with her.

One guy—Zhou Peng—grinned as he invited her to a Jay Chou concert, proudly waving a pair of tickets.

Zhang Ye remembered him well.

He lived in the same neighborhood...

And in his previous life, Zhou Peng had been one of those who helped get Zhang Ye killed.
