The journey from the capital station to the northern province typically took two to three days. But now, it had been four. Heavy snowfall had blocked the railway, delaying the train's arrival. Still, such sights were nothing unusual in a land perpetually shrouded in ice.

After being stranded in a mound of snow for nearly three hours, the train finally arrived at its destination—the station of Everwinter city, the capital city of the northern province.

I stepped down from the carriage, the first thing greeting me was a pure white landscape and an air so cold it bit at my skin. Thankfully, I had worn the winter coat gifted to me by my friend Gene for my birthday last year.

The Principal had informed me that someone would be waiting to pick me up at the station.

Soon enough, I spotted a old man dressed in the formal garb of a butler. His white hair was neatly combed, and time had etched faint wrinkles on his face. His age is probably around 50 years old.

"Excuse me, sir. Are you Mr. Kaiser?" the man inquired politely.

"Yes, I am. Are you an envoy from Duke Noir?"

"Indeed, my name is Theodore Ravenshire. I am the seventh-generation head butler of the House of Duke Noir. It's a pleasure to meet you, Mr. Kaiser," he said, bowing slightly.

"The pleasure's mine, Mr. Theodore," I replied.

What I hadn't noticed at first was the young girl standing quietly behind him.

"Oh...? I just realized there's a girl behind you."

She had flowing black hair like silk and wore a white dress with black sleeves, a delicate apron, and a white ribbon tied behind her head.

"She is a young maid-in-training at the Duke's house. Come on, introduce yourself."

"M-My name is Nina..." the girl said shyly before retreating behind Theodore once again.

Was she... Scared of me?

"My apologies, Mr. Kaiser. Nina is a bit shy around strangers," Theodore explained.

"Ah, I see. For a moment I thought I had scare her," I said, scratching my cheek with an awkward smile.

"Come, sir. Our carriage awaits nearby."

"O-Of course. Lead the way."

Theodore began to walk, and Nina insisted on carrying my suitcase despite my protests. She was surprisingly stubborn for someone so small, so I let her carry it and followed them toward the magical carriage.

Along the way, we made small talk about various topics, including the nature of magical vehicles which is called a car.

Once our belongings were loaded into the car, we encountered a small dilemma: the carriage only had room for two passengers.

"Hmm... Mr. Kaiser, would it trouble you terribly to have Nina sit on your lap? I had forgotten that this car only accommodates two," Theodore asked apologetically.

"Eh...?" I was caught off guard.

I was supposed to hold a little girl on my lap? What...?

I paused, hesitant, but Theodore insisted there was no other option. Resigned, I nodded and took a seat. Nina quietly climbed into my lap.

"M-My apologies, Mr. Kaiser... and thank you," she whispered, her voice barely audible.

"It's alright..."

Then, I noticed something peculiar. The ribbon in Nina's hair—it was embroidered with gold and adorned with a sapphire gem.

Wait... isn't that accessory far too valuable for a mere maid girl? Could it be...?

"Very well, let us depart," Theodore announced, starting the engine of the magic vehicle.

As we made our way toward House of Noir, I observed the lively streets of Everwinter city, surprisingly bustling despite the heavy snowfall.

"Um... Sir? Am I too heavy? Am I making you uncomfortable?" Nina asked timidly.

"Not at all. I used to carry children on my lap all the time when I stayed at my mother's house. Though, that was years ago," I chuckled, trying to ease her nerves.

My attempt fell flat. She only grew more bashful and silent. I struggled to find a topic that wouldn't make the ride awkward, but soon enough, we arrived.

House of Noir stood tall before us, the grandest and most formidable estate in the entire city.

As I stepped out, Nina immediately bolted toward the mansion without a word.

"She ran off…" I muttered, smiling wryly.

"My apologies, Mr. Kaiser. Her shyness can be troublesome at times, but I'm certain she'll warm up to you soon," said Theodore.

I simply nodded.

"This way, please. The Duke is waiting you."

Theodore led me through the halls and stopped before a large wooden door.

*Knock knock*

"My Lord, it's me Theodore."

"Come in," came a deep voice from within.

As the door opened, I beheld a man with shoulder-length platinum hair, eyes as blue as the summer sky, and a build both powerful and dignified. He sat behind a desk piled high with documents.

"My Lord, I've brought Mr. Kaiser as requested."

"Ah, so you're Kaiser—the esteemed instructor from the Valkhein Royal Academy?"

"Yes. My name is Kaiser Arcadia, a faculty member of the Valkhein Royal Academy," I said with a respectful bow.

Duke Louis look at me in silence. His sharp gaze seemed to pierce through me, as if weighing my soul.

"So, that bookworm was right... You really have great strength and skills," he finally said.

He could tell that just by looking at me? This man was no ordinary noble.

"You already know who I am, I assume. My name is Louis de Noir. I called you here to become my daughter's private tutor. Do you know why I chose you for this task?"

"The Principal briefed me. I'm to teach Lady Claire how to use magic over the next three months—until a week before the Academy's entrance examination."

"You are mostly correct... except for one thing—she will not be attending the Academy."

That surprised me.

"Pardon?"

"Kaiser, there is something you must know. My daughter, Claire... she cannot use magic."

The Principal had mentioned this. I had been mulling over the issue ever since.

Lady Claire's inability to wield magic could stem from many things—a curse, an illness, a syndrome, or a rare magical anomaly. But such cases were exceedingly rare—perhaps one in ten million.

"Yes, I'm know. The Principal told me everything. He sent me because he believes I can help her."

"Thank you. You've no idea how many tutors have given up on her—many without even trying. They all said the same thing: there is no hope."

"You need not worry. With my knowledge and experience, I am confident I'll find a way for Lady Claire to use her magic."

A smile formed on Duke Louis's face, his eyes gleaming with hope.

I gave a final bow and excused myself.

"Do you believe he can truly help Lady Claire?" Theodore asked once I had left.

"I do. Because... he is the third generation of the Blue Dragon Warrior."

"Then he must be… the son of Mr. Kai?"

"Yes, his appearance and confidence are nearly identical to his father's. And that bracelet, it's the Blue Dragon bracelet."
