Chapter 7 - Gambling With Your Life.

Damien took a deep breath, got up from the bed, walked over to the set of doors, and waited.

Alright, I'll just take a singular step outside of the room and figure out how long approximately it takes for the Void Servant to appear.

Damien knew that this was already an incredibly risky move.

After all, his entire hunch about the Void Servant not being able to enter the room was still just a hunch.

For all he knew, once the creature appeared, it could simply follow him back into the room, mercilessly kill him, and there would be absolutely nothing he could do about it.

Does it even matter at this point? I could either take this gamble, retrieve more information and eventually find a way to escape this damned nightmare or I could sit on this bed and rot for eternity...

Damien decided to go with the former option.

Without another thought, he finally opened the doors and stepped out into the menacing hallway.

Damein anxiously counted the seconds, hoping that his [Fated] attribute wouldn't screw him over like it probably was doing so far.

After approximately waiting forty-five seconds or so, he finally saw the dreaded figure seemingly appear from thin air, and it was rapidly moving towards him.

Half-panicking, Damien quickly rushed behind the set of doors and calmed his nerves, praying that the creature wouldn't break in for real this time.

Thankfully, after waiting for a while, he knew that he was probably safe for the time being.

After gathering as much information as he could, he finally formulated a plan.

I doubt this strange protection would last forever, though. I need to make the best use of the forty-five seconds or so that I have. Once I exit this hallway, I'll take a right as the exit on my left completely vanished. There should be more rooms like this one. I'll stop at each searching for something I can use to fight. Yeah, that should do it.

He suddenly remembered a crucial detail.

If the Void Servant was able to erase the exit, couldn't it do the same for the rooms?

From there, a thousand questions emerged.

It can't be, right? That means that he could have blocked off this room, too.

Or maybe it's just that this room is special compared to the others, and I won't get so lucky again?

Damn this all!

Damien hesitantly made his way to the doors again.

Only this time, he had a look of resolve in his eyes.

Taking a deep breath, he burst open the doors and sprinted down the narrow hall.

Twelve seconds so far, not bad.

Taking a right, he continued bolting down the seemingly never-ending hallway.

Ten more seconds passed, and Damien was starting to feel a bit concerned.

Where the hell are all of the other rooms?! I could have sworn I'd seen more when I first entered this place.

Damien reluctantly looked back behind him, still feeling confident that there would be nothing behind him, but he was utterly wrong.

Around fifty meters away, he saw the Void Servant crawling on all fours, chasing him and, as always, making absolutely zero sound.

F-Fuck! It couldn't have been more than thirty seconds. Why is it already chasing me?!

The creature was gaining on him, too.

It was far too late to try and somehow get past the Void Servant and back into the safe room, and he wasn't seeing any of the rooms he saw earlier on his sides.

His only option was to continue going forward.

That's when he saw it.

Up ahead in the distance, he saw the familiar chamber that took the lives of his comrades and apparently held a Divine artifact.

With no other way to go and no other plans of action at his disposal, he knew what he had to do.

Let's see how useful this [Fated] attribute of mine can be...
