Chapter 1 - The One Who Left Without Goodbye

The office was quiet. Amira sat by the window of her top-floor suite, looking out at the busy streets of Lagos. Cars moved, people rushed, and life went on — just like it had the day he walked out of hers.

She sipped her coffee slowly, her thoughts far from her company's latest investment deal. Today marked five years since David Bennett had left. No calls. No emails. No goodbye.

He had disappeared like smoke — leaving her with unanswered questions and a broken heart.

Amira had learned to live without him.

At least, that's what she told herself.

Five Years Ago...

It was a Saturday morning. Amira had made her special cinnamon pancakes — David's favorite. The sun poured into their small apartment as music played softly in the background. She had just received a job offer in London, and David had landed a major role in a Lagos tech firm.

They were happy. They were in love.

But that morning, she found a note on the kitchen table.

"I'm sorry, Amira. I need to go find myself. Please don't look for me. — David"

She read the note again and again, hoping it would change. But it didn't. He was gone.

No fight. No warning. Just silence.

Present Day

"Miss Amira," her assistant said, knocking gently on the door. "The CEO of DB Tech has arrived for the meeting."

Amira's heart skipped.

"Who?"

"David Bennett."

She froze.

She hadn't heard that name in years. Her fingers tightened around the coffee cup.

"I'll be right there," she said quietly.

The Meeting Room

Amira walked in with her usual grace, her heels clicking against the floor. Her long black gown hugged her figure perfectly, and her eyes were calm — cold, even.

Then she saw him.

David Bennett stood tall in a navy blue suit, his hair slightly longer, his eyes tired but still familiar.

He looked at her the way a man looks at something he lost but never stopped missing.

"Good morning," he said.

Amira sat down slowly. "Let's keep this professional."

He nodded. But his heart broke a little.

They began discussing the project proposal — something about joint tech funding — but every word felt heavy. The air was thick with memories.

David tried to focus, but all he could see was the woman he left… the woman he still loved.

After the meeting, Amira stood up to leave.

"Amira—" he called softly.

She turned but didn't speak.

"I never stopped thinking about you."

She gave a small, bitter smile. "That makes one of us."

And she walked away.

But her hands were shaking.
