Chapter 6 - We need to talk.

Sylus stood in front of the mirror in his room.

It had been less than a week since his star awakening, and in that short time, Sylus had received, if not hundreds, of gifts from nobles all over the world.

Every day, he was getting visits from royal families, all wanting to meet the child who awakened the rare star of the Astrodial family.

His father hadn't been calm, not one bit.

He went on and on to brag about it to almost every king on the continent.

Sylus understood why his father was that happy, but he was getting too much attention, something he most definitely did not want.

On the bright side, there was good news.

Normally, after a child awakens their star blessing in the Astrodial family, they are then given a gift as a token of congratulations.

They are given the chance to choose a personal maid of their choosing, all of whom would be in the same age range as them.

It was believed that the bond you grow with your personal maid would not only shape the maid to be first-class but also show how good of a leader you can be once you become king.

Both Erica and Lucas got one, and now, it was Sylus's turn.

'If I could have chosen an older maid, I would have loved it.'

He tilted his head to the side, his huge eyes expressing his sadness.

'Apparently, they have to be as young as me. Too bad, I already have my eyes on a maid. And today is the choosing too.'

He moved away from the mirror and made his way to the window.

Climbing the small table, Sylus was able to get a good view of what was happening outside.

Dozens of well-built carriages were packed at the front of the castle, each one attached to at least two horses.

Following up were the guards who were loading the carriages with goods.

A single man was leading them; his name was Richard Oltsen, and he was Martin's personal assistant.

'Looks like Father is going out soon. He'll probably not be there for my selection.'

Sylus didn't really care; he was already well aware of how busy his father could be. He was the king of Verdenez; it was expected.

Still, he figured if his father were there, he could get some advice on who to pick to be his maid.

His mother would be just as helpful, but she was often too soft with him. No matter who he picked, she would still support him.

Tsk!

Sylus made his way back down from the table.

And then suddenly, his eyes fell on the cup, lonely on the shelf.

'…maybe I should try it now.'

For the past couple of months, Sylus had been slowly understanding the powers he got from his awakening.

[The Chosen One] allowed him to learn all types of magic, one of which was his mother's ability, telekinesis.

It wasn't as easy as it sounded. In order for Sylus to fully learn a certain ability, there were two things he needed to take into consideration.

One, he could only learn the skill if he had a full understanding of what said skill was, from its components to its source.

As such, Sylus had been studying up on telekinesis, trying to gather as much knowledge as possible.

And the second, which was a bit tricky, was that he would need to gather enough mana in order to activate the ability.

He was still small, meaning the amount of mana he could pull into his own body was limited by his small size.

As such, it took him longer to even gather half of the mana he needed to claim the ability.

But now, in that moment, Sylus drew in the last load of mana he needed from his surroundings.

[Enough mana has been occupied.]

[You have met the requirement to learn the ability of the Star of Trinity, Queen's Arm.]

[The Queen's Arm is now in your possession.]

[The Queen's Arm] description: Objects obey your command, they are your tools, control them as you wish. Note: a considerable amount of mana is needed for this.

A huge smile formed on Sylus's face.

"I did it!" he said out loud.

He had gotten used to the magic screen, so he didn't really mind it.

Now locking eyes with the cup, Sylus decided he wanted to try it out.

Since he had used up most of his mana to acquire the ability, he didn't plan to use the ability for long.

'Okay, how do I do this…'

Since he had studied the ability, Sylus had a vague idea of what he needed to do.

He imagined the cup was within his grasp; distance had no meaning, nor did it exist in the world he had created in his head.

The more he kept at it, the more the invisible arm stretching out of his body to grab the cup became visible. It was slow and deliberate and still carried such an ominous aura around it.

'Is this also what Mom sees?'

Not long after, the invisible hand curled around the cup and then slowly lifted it into the air.

Opening his eyes, with two arms stretched forward and mana dancing around them, Sylus couldn't help but smile even more.

'Magic! I'm actually doing magic!'

Things like these were impossible in his former world. And since he came from a trashy background and didn't get to experience movies and comics like some people in his world, this was a huge step in his imagination.

'This is crazy; I wonder how long I can keep this ability going before I—'

The door suddenly opened.

"Sylus, are you ready…"

Standing at the entrance of the room was his mother, and she was looking directly at him.

Though she was calm, Sylus could still see the growing emotion brewing in her eyes. He wasn't sure what it was, but it couldn't be good.

Dropping the cup back on the table, Sylus hid his hands behind him by instinct alone.

"Mother… You're here to pick me up. I thought the maids would be the ones to do that."

Elizabeth didn't give a response.

Instead, she peeped outside the room to see if anyone was coming, and then she closed the door.

Locking eyes with her son…

"We need to talk."
