Chapter 7 - Chapter 7 - Indulgence

Glenn arrived home late, around seven in the evening because he scouted the surrounding potential targets around chinatown and skidrow.

When he went inside, he found John and Elle watching News on TV showing a news anchor reporting the fire incident this morning.

"This morning around ten, a fire broke out in an apartment building. According to the report, no casualties have been listed due to a mysterious person saving the day. One of the eye witnesses says all tenants are evacuated before things escalated except for two kids trapped in their own apartment. Then a guy who wears a face mask suddenly climbed the building by jumping without any secured rope. All of them witness an incredible scene in which the guy jumps from balcony to balcony, climbing upwards until he reached the unit where the kids where trapped. Fortunately, the said individual was able to rescue them by tying the children to himself with a blanket, jumping over the air conditioners as a ledge platform and left the scene without identifying himself. The unnamed hero earned the praises of the public for his bravery and courage while some people said it is a dangerous and stupid move. Meanwhile, the cause of the fire is still being investigated. Experts says the cause of the fire is most likely from a faulty electrical malfunction."

As the report continue and the father and daughter's eyes glued on the TV screen, it played a video of Glenn caught on camera as he was climbing the building with a nervewracking breathtaking moves.

Elle on the other hand noticed Glenn who just arrived. Then her eyes moved towards Glenn's shirt. John also turned to look and both of them turned wide eyed when they recognize it. Then both of them turned to look at the video footage and then back to Glenn confirming their conjecture.

"Hey Elle, Uncle. Hmm? What?"

"Are you—" Elle pointed towards the TV.

When Glenn glanced over the TV, he instantly knew what she was talking about. His shirt and the shirt of the unnamed hero are the same.

"Cough, uhmmmm. I just bought this shirt?" Glenn awkwardly explained, trying to deny it but with his tone, he wasn't even convinced himself on what he said.

"YOU ARE FREAKING AWESOME! You are like Captain America right there!" Elle shouted excitedly.

"Yeah, I never knew you got some moves like that. " Uncle John said.

"I just wanted to help. I think some spirit possessed me." Glenn said trying not to sound arrogant.

"I should tell my friends." Elle suddenly took her phone ready to call someone but Glenn snatched her phone quickly.

"Absolutely, not!"

"Hey! Give me back my phone lunatic monkey!"

"That won't do, bunchkin. Helping people doesn't need to be known by everyone else. Besides, I just want some privacy and stay hidden. I don't want to deal with annoying reporters." Glenn reasoned.

"He's right, bunchkin. It's already enough we both know. If Glenn became well known because of this, some media may take advantage of it and say something meaner to him despite the intention."

"Okay, I understand. I won't tell anyone, I promise! But why the hell did this idiot call me bunchkin too?" After Elle said it, she jump over Glenn and choke him not caring for her phone anymore.

"Ahhhhhh don't bite my ears!"

"Grgggggggg"

-----

Days gone by quickly and Glenn's departure came. Glenn who was wearing black jeans and leather jacket, carrying a duffle bag was outside as John and Ellle came to bid farewell.

"Glenn, be careful out there, okay? If you need help with something, call me."

"The same goes to you, uncle. You know I'm just one call away."

"Elle, come and say your goodbye to Glenn.

"Hmpf! Who would miss such a lunatic freeloader."

Glenn laugh and embraced Elle before saying, "I'm gonna miss you too."

"I'm not!" Elle replied trying her best not to cry.

"Oh she was about to cry, hahaha. Come on now, it's not like we won't see each other again. I'm still in Los Angeles, okay? In fact, I'll be coming here from time to time."

"Really?"

Glenn nodded and whispered to her, "Yeah, I'll even give you my address so you can freeload there anytime."

"Deal!"

"Be good to John, okay? Don't give him a hard time, bunchkin. Ouch!"

Elle kicked his knee when she heard him call him bunchkin once more.

"I'll see you around, John, Elle! Thank you for letting me stay!"

"Take care of yourself lunatic!"

"Will do!"

Glenn smiled then he turned around while waving his hand.

John and Elle, followed Glenn with their gaze until he turned into a corner, out of their sight.

John place his hand on Elle's shoulder before saying, "Let's go, he will be fine."

Elle nodded and turned around to return inside.

"Now where should I go first? Hmm, I guess I'm gonna need a place to stay and a transportation." Glenn muttered as he was walking down the street.

He fished out his phone and searched online. He found the nearest real estate broker and quickly went to the address indicated on the website.

When he came in, the staff maintained a professional attitude which satisfied him. He told the staff that he was looking to buy an apartment and he prefers an entire floor of penthouse with a parking space.

The staff checked their available units and found there was one that matches his needs at West 4th Street, downtown. The unit was owned by an actor who was having trouble dealing with tax which made him sell the unit as soon as possible. This made the unit in much lower prize and it includes the furnitures inside.

Glenn grinned when he heard that and settled the payment right away in cash. The unit was sold to him at 5.7 million dollars so he figured it's worth the price and he still have enough money. He signed the papers for ownership and asked if it's ready for occupancy.

The staff made a call to the seller of the unit to check. A few minutes later, the staff told him that the unit was ready. The staff offered to drive him to the place and so he could be properly introduced to the building's management.

Half an hour later, Glenn was catered to the lobby and introduced him as the new owner of the building's penthouse.

"Hello, Mr. Peterson. I'm happy to meet you. I'm Brian Kent but you can just call me, Brian and I'm the head of the administration of this building. If you have any needs, just let me know and I'll see what I can do for you. "

"Glad to meet you too, Brian. You have no idea how convenient it is to have this meeting. It would save me a lot trouble proving my identity as a new face to the security of this place, hahaha."

"Well, I'll make sure it wouldn't get to that point."

"Actually, I might take you up on your offer. I actually need help acquiring some heavy work out equipment and carrying them up to my apartment. Do you think you will be able to help me out? Don't worry, money's not an issue."

"Certainly, do you require specific time?"

"As soon as possible, if it's okay."

"Okay, I'll let you know once the equipment arrived and is ready to set up to your apartment."

"Thank you, Brian. Don't worry, I won't forget about your help." Glenn winked which Brian quickly understood.

"Is there's anything else Mr. Peterson?" Brian replied quite calm but deep inside, he was a little excited due to additional bonus he might receive from Glenn specially now that his family's apartment caught in fire recently so he needed some money.

"That would be all for now, Brian. So... I'll go ahead to my newly bought apartment and rest."

"Okay, Mr. Peterson. Enjoy your rest."

"Mmm."

As he was about to turn around, Brian called out once again.

"One second, Mr. Peterson, you forgot your key card. Please allow me to walk you through getting to your suite."

"Okay."

Brian presented him two plain black cards, the extra one is a spare key card. He guided Glenn towards the elevator and went inside with him.

"This is your private elevator. Do you see this black screen right here, Mr. Peterson? All you have to do is let it scan your key card and the elevator will automatically take you up to your floor. This is a security measure to ensure not just anyone can access your floor. And if you noticed, there weren't any buttons here compared to the other elevators on the main entrance. There's only a key slot right here and it's for our staff to get to your room in case you request our services. The staff who will work for a room or cleaning service will be accompanied by a supervisor for supervision. Only with a key card you will be able to access your penthouse. You can request for extra key cards if you wish, you just have to let me know."

Glenn nodded and was satisfied on how it works. This means he can have an almost absolute privacy.

"That would be all, Mr. Peterson. Enjoy your rest."

"Thank you, Brian."

After Brian went out of the elevator, Glenn scanned the key card towards the black screen and with a beep sound, the elevator started to go up. Inside, Glenn couldn't help savouring the feeling of being rich and couldn't deny the fact that he enjoyed it. He grinned at the thought that he can finally experience a luxurious life that he wasn't able to experience in his past life.

Ding!

The Elevator sounded as he arrived at the top floor penthouse. After getting out of the elevator, he immediately saw the luxurious suite.

It's a 6,000 square foot penthouse with breathtaking city views across the living room's floor-to-ceiling glass windows. The furnitures were modern yet elegant and appliances are top of the line latest technology with a 50 inch flatscreen TV. There are other rooms heading towards left and right which he assume would be the master bedroom, kitchen and the gym. There's a large balcony outside and a third of it was a swimming pool surrounded with lights.

"Holy shit! Hahaha, you are totally worth it!" Glenn exclaimed as he can't wait to check every corner of his new home.

He first went to check the room on the right and found a huge bedroom. It was elegant and from the bed, you can see the full view of the city below. The room also have a separate dressing room and a large bathroom. The comforter and pillows seems new and properly folded, while the bed doesn't even have a crease on it. He checked the bathroom and boy, the size was like a regular room. The shower walls was made with grainy glass and the bath tub was beside the glass window, perfect for a night bath while enjoying the view of the city lights drinking wine.

After checking the bathroom, he checked the dressing room which was big but he was a bit disappointed since it's empty. The actor possibly didn't use it or he already pulled out his clothes before selling the unit.

It looks like he needed to do a massive shopping the next day to buy clothes and things.

He went outside his bedroom headed towards the other side of suite. There, he saw another room for guests, still larger than regular room but more lowkey than his room.

On the southwest part of the suite was a modern style kitchen with large counter and it has a complete set of first class cooking appliances such as, refrigerator, coffee maker, blender, etc. However, the refrigerator was empty and it must have been cleaned by the staff before Glenn bought it.

Connected to the kitchen was a corridor heading to the northwest side of suite where he found the gym. Luckily, there was a complete set of gym equipment in the room, even the punching bag looks new. The only missing piece were the dumbbells that was much heavier than what he have. He also needed to clear the center of the room for his practice. Looks like Glenn will have to add another item on his shopping list.

Glenn cleared the center by moving the equipments on both sides and was satisfied with the space.

Then he went back to the living room, heading towards the balcony. As he gaze at the distant lights from the buildings outside, he couldn't help but take a deep breath. He sigh in satisfaction for the small accomplishment he achieved. He stayed for a while appreciating everything then decided to call it a night since he still have a lot of stuff he needed to do tomorrow.
