Chapter Twenty-Two: The Boardroom Storm

Alexander stepped into the boardroom and immediately felt the tension. His company's senior executives sat stiffly, eyes flicking between papers and whispered comments.

One of the older directors, Chief Otunba, cleared his throat. "We've all seen the interview, Alexander."

Alexander remained calm. "And?"

"She's… articulate. Strong. But the headlines? They're causing waves among stakeholders. Questions are being raised about your personal judgment."

Another board member chimed in. "Some investors feel the relationship may affect the company's image."

Alexander stood, adjusting his cufflinks. "Let me be clear. Who I choose to love, and the mother of my son, are not liabilities. They're not shameful. They're part of my story."

Silence.

One brave voice, a younger female executive, smiled slightly. "It's the first time I've seen you speak like this. It's human. And refreshing."

He nodded. "We're evolving. Let's not pretend perfection. Let's show integrity."

The room remained quiet.

But something had shifted.

---

Elsewhere...

Maria's phone rang.

A journalist from a women's advocacy platform offered her a chance to speak again—this time on live TV.

She wasn't sure.

But then she saw the messages flooding her inbox. Young girls. Single mothers. Survivors.

"You gave me hope."

"Your courage reminded me I'm not small."

Maria stared at Junior, coloring quietly on the floor.

Maybe this was more than just her story.

Maybe it was a voice for the voiceless.

She smiled and texted back:

"Yes. I'll do it."
