Chapter 16 - Norman’s Gambit

Oscorp Tower's executive suite was a sterile throne room, its panoramic windows framing the burning city of Earth-731 in 2030. Peter Parker, Mad Spider, kicked down the door, Gwen Stacy at his side, the self-destruct countdown at eight minutes. His blood-red costume hung in tatters, his spider-powers—strength, agility, regeneration—barely holding against the pain from electroshock torture. His laughter, a Joker-like roar, echoed as he faced Norman Osborn, the architect of his torment. "Nice office, Normie!" he quipped, his Deadpool-like humor sharp. "Needs more screams." Gwen's tablet flickered, the broadcast of Oscorp's crimes sparking rebellion below, but her blue eyes were fixed on Norman, her love for Peter a quiet fire.

Flashback: At 18, Norman injected Peter with the spider-serum, his voice chilling: "You'll be my chaos." Peter's screams filled the lab, his mind breaking as madness took root. Gwen, watching, vowed to destroy Norman.

Norman stood behind a glass desk, his gray suit immaculate, his green eyes cold. "You're my masterpiece, Subject 731," he said, a holo-screen showing the tower's collapse. "I engineered your madness—every shock, every break." Peter's laughter turned cold, his pain flaring. "You made a mistake, pal. I'm nobody's puppet." Norman smirked, revealing his gambit: the neural implants were a decoy. His true plan was Peter—a chaotic symbol to justify Oscorp's control over the city. "You're the villain they fear," Norman said, activating a shock-field around the room, mimicking the lab's torture.

The voltage hit Peter, dropping him, his mind fracturing. Flashback: At 20, Peter's laughter replaced screams, his madness a shield against pain. Now, Gwen's voice cut through: "Peter, you're stronger!" She hacked the shock-field, her tablet sparking, giving Peter a window. He surged up, webbing Norman's desk and shattering it, his regeneration healing burns. "Bad move, Normie!" he roared, his violence unchecked. Norman fought back, a neural whip cracking, its shocks precise. Peter's spider-senses dodged, but the pain was relentless, his madness teetering.

Gwen reached the server core, her hack amplifying the broadcast, exposing Norman's lies. The city rioted, crowds storming Oscorp's gates. But Norman's whip caught Peter, the shocks overwhelming. "You're mine," Norman hissed. Peter's rage erupted, his laughter a weapon. "Wrong!" He webbed Norman's arm, snapping the whip, and tackled him through a window onto a collapsing ledge. The fight was brutal, Peter's strength crushing Norman's defenses. "This is for Gwen," he snarled, his fist breaking Norman's jaw. With a final webbing, he pinned Norman to the ledge, letting the tower's collapse claim him.

Gwen's hack completed, the broadcast unerasable. She grabbed Peter, their ritual a fleeting anchor as the tower shook. "We did it," she whispered, tears falling. Peter's laughter was broken, his eyes raw. "At what cost, Gwenny?" They swung through the crumbling tower, Razor guiding them to an exit, the city aflame below.

Cliffhanger: Mad Spider and Gwen escape the collapsing tower, Peter's infamy cemented as a villain. "They'll never forget us," he laughs, his madness surging, as the city burns in rebellion.
