Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Cause and Effect

Jack quickly reacted. Although he had transmigrated to Night City and become the Leader of Destiny Church, he couldn't even recognize the Cybernetics model on Ben's body, let alone repair these precisely manufactured mechanical Cybernetics!

Instantly, Jack became conflicted again. Should he take the opportunity to run away? If it was discovered that he couldn't repair Cybernetics, wouldn't he be dead? Going out to have fun with girls was purely a pipe dream!

"Jack, what are you thinking about? All these Cybernetics on me were installed by you. Without you, I'd probably be dead in some corner by now."

"Didn't you say you wanted to visit Cloudtop in Japan Town before? Although it's a bit expensive... we're a bit tight on funds, but how about we go to Cloudtop this time so you can have a good time?"

Jack shook his head, glanced at Ben, and said:

"What about the group we fought yesterday? How are they doing?"

"Oh, you mean those Scavenger trash? Thanks to your arrangements yesterday, Jack, we killed quite a few of them, and we also rescued over twenty nomads from the basement. If the NCPD hadn't arrived so quickly, we would have killed all of them!"

...

'My arrangements? The other group yesterday was actually Scavengers?'

Scavengers, the gutter rats in the sewers of Night City, also known as executioners or organ harvesters, are the lowest-level people in all of Night City—trash. They have lost their humanity and specialize in dissecting human bodies and selling Cybernetics of unknown origin, despised and loathed by everyone.

...

On the way back, in a dilapidated minivan, Ben was driving, and Jack sat in the passenger seat. Seeing Jack's preoccupied look, he couldn't help but comfort him: "Jack, although we barely avenged Carl's death this time, you can't just give up on yourself because of it..."

...Carl? Revenge?

"Yes."

"Tell me more?"

Ben turned his head and carefully scrutinized Jack, making sure he wasn't joking before slowly recounting what happened. Carl was everyone's elder brother and the first Leader of Destiny Church. As for his dream, it was to become the Godfather of Night City. And Jack was the sole Vice-Leader and Ripperdoc of Destiny Church...

As for Carl's background... he was born to a doll. At the age of fifteen, he witnessed his mother being killed by a Tiger Claws Cyberpsychosis, which then began his three-year gang warfare career. When Jack met him, he was lying in a trash can, eyes closed, waiting to die. So he brought him back to his clinic.

Previously, Jack suffered from a common Ripperdoc ailment: he wouldn't install various powerful combat Cybernetics on himself to avoid exceeding his body's load and becoming Cyberpsychosis. Later, as Carl recovered day by day, he also developed the idea of becoming a legend of Night City, but he was struggling financially.

Jack had just started in the field at that time and couldn't find anyone to practice on. So the two hit it off, and Jack installed all the miscellaneous Cybernetics Carl had collected onto his body.

Many Ripperdocs who just started in the field have done this, but Carl had very high composure and excellent tolerance! At Carl's strong insistence, Jack also became deranged, installing several military-grade combat Cybernetics on Carl...

Jack stared intently at Ben, this familiar scene making him almost guess the outcome. Two poor boys from the slums, under such conditions, managed to accomplish something so incredible, the difficulty of which was comparable to telling a mythical story...

'It actually worked out??'

Thinking of this, Jack couldn't help but imagine the scene between his predecessor and Carl, like:

'Haha, I believe you can stand at the top of Arasaka Tower and become a prominent figure who can look down on Night City!'

...

What happened next, however, once again surprised Jack. Carl didn't die in a corporate dispute; instead, he believed some nonsense from the Scavengers and put on a Black Dream. It was said that this could quickly master powerful physical combat techniques and gun proficiency.

The result was obvious, and so, on a stormy night. Everything that should and shouldn't have happened, happened. The young legend, who had just emerged and hadn't yet shown Night City his brilliance, fell in a Scavenger's den.

Afterward, Jack's predecessor was incredibly angry. He had lost his most perfect work, and in Night City, it was as if he had lost his spiritual support!

Of course, Jack's predecessor wasn't foolish; he told a different story to the outside world. He said that Carl was his most important brother, and he wanted these Scavengers to be buried with him!

So, Jack's predecessor immediately ran to Rogue's Afterlife Bar, spending all his savings! Amidst the sighs and laughter of the crowd, he hired a group of second-tier Mercenaries without a middleman to massacre that Scavenger's den, turning it into a river of blood.

Thus, this feud was formed. A few stragglers escaped from that Scavenger's den. Afterward, they learned from talkative Mercenaries that Jack had issued the commission, so Jack's predecessor also began to suffer constant attacks and pursuits.

Because of Jack's identity as a Ripperdoc, he continuously selected some nomads who originally had no chance with combat Cybernetics, installed Cybernetics for them, enabling them to gain a foothold in Night City, and thus stubbornly survived.

And yesterday's battle was Jack's first counterattack. Afterward, for some inexplicable reason, he collapsed behind a trash can. It's currently unknown whether the Tsutomo prosthetic on his hand was also found in the trash can.

Jack couldn't help but rub his temples:

'So now I not only have to solve the Scavenger problem but also consider how to fulfill my responsibilities as the Leader of Destiny Church.'

If it were in the game, he could control V Zhentian to crush the Scavengers like ants. Nor would he need to care about the loves and hates of NPC characters.

But now... these Scavengers are not softies who can't install combat Cybernetics. Probably any random minion could easily beat him to death with one hand.

"Jack, we're here."

Jack looked at the Puff Pub in front of him, which had a digital clock displaying December 31, 2074...

He took a deep breath. Since he was here, he would make the best of it. Things would work themselves out.

"Alright, let's arrange for food first!"

Jack also understood that suddenly arriving in this world had become an unavoidable reality. Therefore, in the subsequent developments, he naturally needed to plan carefully. No matter what, the story must take place in 2076!

David's ending was quite tragic, and V Zhentian's ending wasn't much better...

Before he could finish sighing, Jack narrowed his eyes slightly, and a strange voice appeared in his mind.
