Chapter 41 - Italic Beauty

After completing his work in Switzerland, Adil boarded a flight bound for Italy. Unlike his stay in Zurich, which had revolved around business and preparations for the future, Italy was purely for leisure. For the first time in months, he had no shooting schedules, no examinations, and no responsibilities waiting for him, and he intended to simply enjoy life.

As the plane took off, Adil leaned back comfortably and looked out of the window while the snow-covered Alps slowly disappeared beneath the clouds. He spent some time reading a book before noticing movement beside him, and a gentle voice said in Italian, "Excuse me."

Adil looked up and, for a second, he froze because the woman standing beside him was breathtaking. She had long dark hair, beautiful brown eyes, a graceful figure, and a face he instantly recognized, Monica Bellucci.

In his previous life, she had become one of the most admired actresses and beauty icons in the world, and among all her performances, one memory stood out most clearly to him: Malèna. Her portrayal of Malèna had become iconic, and by then she had already entered her thirties, with audiences all over the world praising her beauty and elegance. But now she was only twenty-six, still a model, still years away from Hollywood, and perhaps at the absolute peak of her youthful beauty.

Monica noticed him staring and smiled warmly as she asked, "May I sit?" Adil immediately stood and stepped aside, replying in fluent Italian, "Of course." Monica's beautiful eyes widened slightly as she asked in surprise, "You speak Italian?" Adil smiled casually and answered, "A little." Monica laughed softly and said, "A little? That sounded perfect." Adil replied, "I practiced."

As Monica settled into her seat, she glanced at him curiously and said, "I have to admit, I wasn't expecting that." Adil smiled and said, "And I wasn't expecting to meet someone so beautiful before lunch." Monica blinked and then burst into laughter, asking teasingly, "Straight to compliments?" Adil chuckled and replied, "No, that's called being honest." Monica smiled and said, "And here I thought Italians were the flirts." Adil shrugged lightly and said, "I'm learning," which made them both laugh.

After introducing themselves, the conversation quickly became natural. Monica asked, "So, Adil, where are you from?" and Adil answered, "India." Monica tilted her head and said, "Really? I would never have guessed." Adil then asked, "And you?" and Monica grinned and replied, "Italy, obviously." Adil nodded and said, "I guessed," which made Monica laugh as she replied, "Good answer."

After a few moments, Monica asked, "What do you do?" and Adil answered, "I'm an actor." Monica repeated in surprise, "Actor?" and Adil nodded, adding, "Still new." Then Adil asked, "And you?" Monica smiled and said, "I'm a model." Adil nodded thoughtfully and said, "I see."

Monica smiled curiously and asked, "What?" and Adil looked directly into her eyes and said, "Nothing. I just think the camera must be in love with you." Monica laughed again and said, "You know, you have a dangerous smile." Adil grinned and replied, "And you have dangerous eyes." Monica shook her head with a smile and said, "I think we're both in trouble."

Hours passed without either of them noticing as they talked about films, books, food, travel, and dreams, and the conversation flowed effortlessly. Eventually Monica leaned back and admitted, "I want to become an actress someday." Adil smiled knowingly and said, "You will." Monica looked at him curiously and asked, "You sound very certain." Adil answered, "Sometimes I trust my instincts." Monica then asked softly, "And what do your instincts say?" Adil held her gaze and replied, "They say you'll become unforgettable."

For a second, Monica simply looked at him before smiling softly and saying, "I hope you're right." As the plane began its descent toward Milan, Monica suddenly turned toward him and asked, "And why are you visiting Italy?" Adil replied, "I'm just a tourist." Monica raised an eyebrow and asked, "No business?" and Adil said, "No." She continued, "No family?" and he shook his head again, saying, "No." Then Monica smiled mischievously and asked, "No girlfriend waiting?" Adil laughed and replied, "That's a very suspicious question." Monica smiled and said, "Answer it." Adil grinned and said, "Maybe."

Monica narrowed her eyes and repeated, "Maybe?" Adil laughed and said, "I'm on vacation. I don't answer difficult questions," which made Monica laugh as she replied, "Fair enough."

After a brief silence, Monica suddenly said, "You know, if you're just a tourist… I could show you around." Adil blinked in surprise and asked, "You?" Monica nodded proudly and said, "Why not? Italy is my home." Adil asked, "And your work?" Monica shrugged and said, "I have a few days free," then added with a playful smile, "Besides, someone has to make sure handsome Indian actors don't get lost."

Adil raised an eyebrow and grinned as he repeated, "Handsome?" Monica immediately realized what she had said, coughed, and looked away while saying, "I didn't say that." Adil laughed and said, "You did." Monica shook her head and said, "No." Adil smiled and replied, "You absolutely did," which made Monica burst into laughter as she finally admitted, "Fine, maybe."

As the plane landed in Milan, Monica wrote her contact information on a napkin and handed it to him while saying, "Call me tomorrow." Adil smiled and asked teasingly, "And if I don't?" Monica stood up, picked up her bag, and without turning back said, "Then you'll miss having the most beautiful guide in Italy." Adil laughed and replied, "And modest too." Monica turned around, pointed at him, and said, "I heard that."

Adil watched her walk away and, for the first time since arriving in Europe, found himself genuinely looking forward to tomorrow, while neither of them yet realized that a chance meeting above the clouds had already begun to change both of their lives, and perhaps something even more.

The following morning, Milan welcomed Adil with warm sunlight and cool spring air, while the city moved at its own unhurried rhythm. Elegant buildings lined the streets, people walked with quiet confidence, and the smell of fresh coffee drifted through the air from cafés scattered across every corner.

Adil had barely finished breakfast when he picked up the napkin, Monica had given him the night before, and he smiled to himself before dialing the number on it through Hotel Telephone.

The phone rang twice.

Monica answered immediately and said, "Buongiorno." Adil laughed softly and replied, "You answered very quickly." Monica recognize his voice let out a gentle laugh and said, "Of course. I was waiting." Adil raised an eyebrow and asked, "Really?" Monica paused for a second and then said teasingly, "No." Then, after another brief pause, she added with a playful tone, "Maybe."

Adil smiled and asked, "So, Miss Bellucci, is the most beautiful guide in Italy available today?" Monica chuckled softly and replied, "You remembered." Adil said, "How could I forget?" Monica laughed and said, "Meet me in an hour." Adil asked, "Where?" Monica replied quickly, "I'll come to your hotel. Don't get lost before that." Before Adil could respond, she hung up.

An hour later, Adil saw her waiting outside, and for a moment he genuinely forgot to breathe.

Monica stood there wearing a simple white dress with sunglasses and a light jacket, with no makeup and no glamorous styling, yet she looked effortlessly breathtaking. Monica smiled and asked, "What?" Adil shook his head slightly and said, "I'm just wondering how many poor men have crashed their cars because of you." Monica burst into laughter and replied, "Terrible." Adil shook his head and said, "No, serious. You should be illegal." Monica laughed again and said, "And I thought Indian men were shy." Adil nodded and said, "They are." Monica tilted her head and asked, "And you?" Adil smiled and said, "I'm learning from Italian women." Monica rolled her eyes and smiled as she said, "Dangerous answer."

They spent the entire morning exploring Milan together, as Monica showed him Piazza del Duomo, elegant cafés, and old streets filled with artists and musicians, while she spoke passionately about Italian culture and history. Adil mostly listened, watching her closely whenever she became excited, because her hands moved animatedly and her expressions became even more lively.

Finally, Monica stopped walking, narrowed her eyes at him, and asked, "What?" Adil smiled and replied, "Nothing." Monica immediately said, "You're smiling again." Adil answered calmly, "I'm thinking." Monica asked, "About what?" Adil looked at her directly and said, "I'm trying to decide whether your smile or your eyes are more dangerous." Monica froze for a second and then burst into laughter, saying, "You flirt far too much." Adil replied, "You haven't complained." Monica smiled and said, "Not yet."

By afternoon, Monica suddenly grabbed his arm and said excitedly, "Come on!" Adil blinked and asked, "Where?" Monica immediately replied, "San Siro." Adil asked, "The stadium?" Monica nodded enthusiastically and said, "Yes!"

They went to watch AC Milan play that evening, and Adil quickly realized that Monica transformed completely during football, as she shouted, complained, celebrated, argued with the referee, and laughed like a child every time Milan scored. When the home team finally scored, she instinctively hugged Adil tightly before suddenly realizing what she had done and freezing in place. Her cheeks turned slightly red as she said, "Sorry." Adil smiled and replied, "You can celebrate again if they score." Monica laughed and said, "And here I thought you were serious." Adil nodded and said, "I am serious." Monica shook her head and said, "Hopeless."

After the match ended, neither of them wanted the day to finish, so Monica suggested a nearby pub and said, "Don't tell me Indian actors don't drink." Adil grinned and replied, "Sometimes." Monica smiled proudly and said, "So tonight you drink." Adil asked, "And you?" Monica smiled and said, "I'm Italian."

The pub was lively, filled with music, laughter, and dancing people, while Monica ordered wine and Adil chose something lighter. As hours passed, their conversation became easier, warmer, and more personal.

Monica rested her chin on her hand and looked at him curiously before asking, "Tell me honestly." Adil replied, "Hmm?" Monica asked, "How old are you?" Adil calmly said, "Eighteen." Monica nearly dropped her glass and repeated, "Eighteen?" Adil nodded and asked, "And you?" Monica smiled and said, "Twenty-six." Adil whistled softly and said, "Eight years." Monica asked with a smile, "Does that disappoint you?" Adil immediately replied, "No." Monica asked, "And why not?" Adil smiled and said, "Because beauty doesn't ask for age." Monica stared at him for several seconds before laughing softly and saying, "You really are dangerous."

The wine had slightly flushed her cheeks, and her voice had become softer and more playful as she said, "You know, Adil…" Adil looked up and said, "Hmm?" Monica continued, "When I first saw you on the plane, I thought you were another spoiled tourist." Adil asked, "And now?" Monica smiled and said, "Now I think you're trouble." Adil grinned and asked, "Good trouble?" Monica smiled and replied, "The worst kind."

Their eyes met, and neither of them looked away as the noise around them faded for a moment.

Then Monica suddenly asked, "Do Indian girls fall in love easily?" Adil raised an eyebrow and asked, "Why?" Monica smiled mischievously and said, "I'm asking." Adil leaned slightly closer and replied, "Depends." Monica asked, "On what?" Adil smiled and said, "Whether someone like Monica Bellucci asks them." Monica burst out laughing and said, "You're unbelievable." Adil added calmly, "Not a no." Monica shook her head while smiling and said, "No. Not a no."

Hours later, as they stepped outside, Milan had grown quiet again, with streetlights glowing softly over empty roads and a cool spring wind moving gently through the city. Neither of them seemed eager to say goodbye as they walked slowly through the peaceful streets together.

Monica suddenly slowed down, looked at him, and smiled softly as she said, "Adil." Adil turned and replied, "Hmm?" Monica said quietly, "I'm glad I sat beside you on that plane." Adil smiled and said, "So am I." Monica looked away for a moment and then said softly, "Because honestly… I don't usually invite strange men to become tourists." Adil grinned and replied, "And I don't usually trust beautiful women who claim to be guides." Monica laughed gently and said, "Then perhaps we're both crazy." Adil nodded slightly and said, "Perhaps."
