Chapter 37 - Chapter 37 – The Outer King

Chapter 37 – The Outer King

The sky split open.

Not cracked.

Not shattered.

Opened.

Like a curtain being pulled aside by an unseen hand.

Beyond it was no darkness.

No stars.

No void.

Only white.

Endless white.

A blankness so absolute that Evetyl Clarke's mind struggled to process it.

The moment she looked at it, her thoughts began slowing.

Memories blurred.

Names became difficult to remember.

Even the concept of time felt fragile.

---

"Don't look at it."

The Warden's command echoed through Black Hollow.

Ancient seals ignited around the village.

Chains of black light rose from the earth.

Thousands.

Millions.

Forming a massive barrier between the village and the opening sky.

---

Clara immediately lowered her gaze.

Arden did the same.

Even Cr-Hook turned away.

---

But Evetyl couldn't.

---

Something inside her recognized the white expanse.

Not consciously.

Instinctively.

---

And the thing behind the Door recognized it too.

---

For the first time, the voice beyond the Door became quiet.

Careful.

Respectful.

---

"Oh."

A pause.

---

"So you're awake."

---

The white sky responded.

Not with words.

With attention.

---

Something noticed Black Hollow.

---

The effect was immediate.

Every reality touching the village trembled.

The overlapping timelines flickered.

The fog vanished entirely.

And the Decision Engine shut down.

Instantly.

---

Not damaged.

Not destroyed.

Disabled.

Like a machine refusing to operate in the presence of its creator.

---

Arden's face turned pale.

---

"Impossible."

---

The Warden slowly shook its head.

---

"No."

A pause.

---

"Worse."

---

The white expanse shifted.

And something began descending.

---

Not a body.

Not a creature.

Not a god.

---

A concept.

---

A crown.

---

An enormous crown of white light appeared above the opening.

Ancient.

Perfect.

Unimaginably vast.

---

The moment it became visible, reality bent around it.

Not from force.

From hierarchy.

---

Existence itself acknowledged its authority.

---

The Warden clenched its fists.

---

"The Outer King."

---

The title echoed through every layer of reality.

---

Evetyl felt her heart stop.

Not physically.

Conceptually.

---

The name carried meaning.

Ancient meaning.

Forgotten meaning.

---

Something inside her remembered.

---

Not a memory.

A warning.

---

Run.

---

The same warning she had seen before.

The same voice from the broken memories.

The same impossible fear.

---

Inside the white corridor, the reflection staggered backward.

---

"No."

---

Its voice was barely audible.

---

"It found the signal."

---

The eyes behind the Door narrowed.

Watching the crown.

Watching the opening sky.

Watching the thing beyond existence.

---

And for the first time—

the being behind the Door looked concerned.

---

The realization terrified Evetyl.

---

If the thing behind the Door was afraid...

Then what exactly was the Outer King?

---

The answer came from the Warden.

---

Its voice was quiet.

Heavy.

Ancient.

---

"The end of all unfinished stories."

---

Silence followed.

---

Then the crown moved.

---

A single degree.

A tiny motion.

Barely noticeable.

---

And an entire reality vanished.

---

Not Black Hollow.

Not Evetyl's world.

A different one.

Somewhere else.

Far away.

Gone.

Instantly.

---

No explosion.

No destruction.

No warning.

---

Simply erased.

---

Everyone felt it happen.

---

The absence echoed through existence.

A reality that had existed one moment and not the next.

---

The Warden closed its eyes.

---

"It has started."

---

Cr-Hook suddenly dropped to one knee.

Its fractured hook trembling violently.

---

"Supreme authority detected."

---

Arden stared upward.

Unable to speak.

Unable to look away.

---

The crown descended slightly further.

---

And a voice finally emerged from the white expanse.

---

Not loud.

Not powerful.

Not angry.

---

Absolute.

---

"Locate anomaly."

---

The words echoed through existence.

---

The Decision Engine immediately restarted.

Symbols exploded across the sky.

Every calculation.

Every protocol.

Every system.

Activating at once.

---

Searching.

Scanning.

Identifying.

---

The crown remained motionless.

---

"Locate anomaly."

---

Again.

---

This time Black Hollow shook.

---

Evetyl felt something locking onto her.

A vast intelligence.

Ancient beyond comprehension.

Searching.

Measuring.

Finding.

---

Inside the corridor, the reflection looked directly at her.

---

And smiled sadly.

---

"It found us."

---

The eyes behind the Door slowly closed.

As if preparing for something.

---

The Warden turned toward Evetyl.

For the first time, genuine urgency entered its voice.

---

"You need to remember."

---

"What?"

---

The Warden stepped closer.

---

"Everything."

---

The crown above Black Hollow stopped descending.

---

The white sky grew brighter.

---

And the Outer King's voice spoke a third time.

---

This time with certainty.

---

"Anomaly located."

---

Every eye in existence turned toward Evetyl Clarke.

And the Door inside her mind began opening on its own.
