"Hehehe."
A soft giggle reached my ears. I looked over to find Selena clinging to my arm, smiling like we were on a romantic date instead of... whatever this was.
Why did the universe give someone this unhinged such a perfect face? Looking at her, you'd never guess she could kill someone with her bare hands. Yet she'd nearly beaten me to death twenty minutes ago.
Did she really believe your answer? the voice asked.
Of course not. I know her too well. She might look innocent, but her IQ is terrifying. She saw through my lie the moment I said it. But that just makes this whole situation more complicated. I don't know what's going on in her head, and after what happened in the elevator... I can't even try to get away from her.
I hated her unpredictability. There was no telling what she might do next. In the original storyline, she was overpowered from the start - something about her bloodline or some blessing that probably contributed to her insanity.
Suddenly, she stopped walking and blocked my path, still holding my hand.
"I'll give you two options," she said, mischief sparkling in her eyes. "You have ten seconds to choose."
"What?" I asked, already dreading the answer.
"What would you prefer to eat right now? Food..." She leaned closer, her breath tickling my ear. "Or me~?"
Her sultry tone had an immediate effect, and my imagination went places it really shouldn't have. Heat pooled in my stomach.
Wait, what? Am I actually considering this?
"I just want to go back to my dorm," I replied flatly, trying to ignore the chaos in my head.
This girl... I can't figure out what she's planning.
Don't bother trying. You'll fry your brain.
She puffed out her cheeks in an adorable pout, then moved so fast I barely saw it coming.
Thud.
I looked down. She'd punched me in the chest, but with no real force behind it. I barely felt it.
"Do you mean I'm not tempting enough?" she teased, grabbing my collar and pulling me down to her level.
Before I could respond, her lips brushed against mine.
A quick peck, then she pulled back with a cheeky smile, grabbed my arm, and started walking in the opposite direction.
"Where are we going? The dorms are that way," I said, trying to pull free.
"Stop pretending. I know you're broke," she replied, pausing to look into my eyes. "I also heard what happened - about the points that were stolen from you. So I helped you get them back."
Her smile hit me right in the chest.
She's acting like...
Your old girlfriend?
Don't call her that.
But it's true. You won't even say her name.
Because I can't remember it.
What?
Since I woke up in this world, I've had this problem. Her name's right there on the tip of my tongue, but I can't say it. I remember everything else - her face, her voice, my own name - but not hers.
It was the strangest thing. Just like before, when 'she' became my constant shadow, refusing to leave me alone no matter what I did.
"Wait... how did you get them to return the points?" I asked, though I had a pretty good idea.
"I asked politely." She smirked, pulling me toward a busier area.
"Are you going to give them to me?"
"Nope," she said with a smug grin.
Great. So essentially the same as not getting them back at all.
"I'll hold onto them for you," she continued. "So this doesn't happen again. Don't worry about food though - I've got you covered."
She's using this to make me dependent on her. And it might actually work.
