Helen POV
Now the world felt altered. I couldn't get rid of the coldness that had taken hold of me ever since I'd used all my might on the battlefield. As they cleared the fight's debris, I glanced around at my bag. Warriors who had fought alongside me for years were averting their eyes and giving me an almost fearful look. Scott himself appeared... aloof.
"Helen?" From behind me, Scott's voice was quiet.
I turned and tried to smile, but it was a fake one. "Yes, Scott?"
With concern in his eyes, he scowled. "Are you... are you all right?" You appear to be... unusual.
I clenched my fists and glanced down. "I'm not sure. Scott, something doesn't feel right. I feel... aloof, as if a piece of me has vanished, ever since I used that power.
He took a step toward me and grasped my hand. That coldness, like an empty abyss, was all that was inside of me when I wanted to feel warmth, the comfort of his touch.
