"Time flies over us, but leaves its shadow behind."
- Nathaniel Hawthorne.
"Awwh! Yuni, you done already?" Mom pouted. "I still have more dishes left!"
I smiled, trying to hold back the emotions swelling inside me. "Don't worry, Mom. We have a whole day ahead." I paused for a second, the thought lingering in my mind. A whole day, huh? I wonder how long it will last...
I shook the feeling off and stretched. "I'll try all your dishes later, but for now, I need to get ready for school, or I'll be late."
She sighed. "Ahh, okay, Yuni. But you better not ditch dinner!"
I chuckled. "Wouldn't dream of it."
For now, I just wanted to hold onto this moment a little longer.
[Front Door]
"Mom, I'm heading out!"
A faint voice from inside called back, "Take care, sweetheart!"
As I stepped outside, a wave of nostalgia hit me. The cool morning air, the quiet streets, the way the sunlight painted everything in a soft glow.... it all felt so familiar, yet so distant. Everything looked... perfect. Just the way I remembered.
Now then time to focus if i remember correctly the school must be right left to my house...
As Yuni walked to school, he suddenly felt a hand grab his shoulder. Startled, he turned around slowly, only to be met with a familiar face.
"Ahh... Rafael." How could I forget? Of course, Rafael takes the same way as I.
"Yo! Yuni, why do you look so down? Cheer up!" Rafael grinned, his usual energetic self.
"Oh... uh, yeah," Yuni muttered, still a bit lost in thought.
"Come on, let's walk together."
As they fell into step, Yuni glanced at Rafael. I wonder what his future was like... He was always good at everything, academics, sports, pretty much anything he tried. He must've had a great life. At least... I hope he did.
[Road to School - Street]
"YO! Wini! Good morning!" Rafael called out, waving.
Wini glanced up, adjusting his bag. "Morning, Rafael... Morning, Yuni."
"Morning," I replied, looking at him for a moment. If I remember right, Wini's the type who avoids people and hates crowded places. We were never really close because of that...
"Come walk with us," Rafael said without hesitation.
Wini didn't respond... just gave a small nod and silently joined us....
...A Short Walk Later..
"Ah, we're here already," Rafael stretched. "Alright then, see you guys later!" With that, he waved and walked off.
I waved back, then turned to Wini, only to realize he was already gone.
I Sighed, "That guy..," and started heading toward my class. But as I walked through the hallways, a realization hit me.
Wait... what class am I in again?
I stopped in my tracks, looking around, my mind panicking. Damn it... I can't believe I forgot.
"Ahh, shit..." I murmured under my breath.
Just then, a student approached me, tilting his head. "Hey, you look kinda lost. Need help?"
Feeling a little embarrassed, I hesitated before mumbling, "Uh... yeah, Will you...!! Please.."
"What class are you in?" he asked.
I let out a nervous laugh. "Ha... ha... ha..."
His eyes widened in disbelief. "Wait... seriously?! How do you not-? Hold on, where have you been going to class these past few months? Wait a sec... are you a transfer student?"
I scratched the back of my head. "Sorry to disappoint, but nope. Not a transfer student. I just... kinda have amnesia. So, yeah."
"Ohh, now I get it," he said, nodding in understanding. "Alright then, we'll have to go to the principal's office and figure this out."
I let out another awkward chuckle. "Aha... ha... ha..."
As we walked down the hallway, he glanced at me. "So, what's your name?"
"Yuni."
"Yuni, huh? I see... Nice to meet you, Yuni. I'm Nieo," he said with a grin.
[Outside the Principal's Office]
"Alright, Nieo, thanks for the help. I can take it from here."
"Okay. See you later, Yun! I hope we become great friends!"
"Yun?" I looked at him as he walked off. He's already giving me nicknames, huh?
Shaking my head, I turned toward the office door. "Alright then... let's find out what class I'm in."
