I release a sigh and look at the new points I receive from capturing all the people in the Palace. Now, I have 67 points to spend. I can buy more defenses and talents, or even a pocket dimension with an apartment where I can sleep.
That apartment will be full of things that I need and things from the modern day, like electric stoves, washing machines, and even a TV that can connect to the local network.
I scroll through the catalog and read through all the things I can purchase now. After a few minutes of reading, I stopped at the Heritage section because I could use 60 points to purchase a Heritage.
Sadly, I can only buy some of them. The ones I can buy are: Archetype: Pirate, Archetype: Transmigrator, Phoenix, Archetype: Mastermind, Protean, Archetype: Therianthrope, and Psychopomp.
All of them have their strength but also their weakness, at least in the beginning. Take the [Mastermind] for example. It does not come with an immediate power-up in physical or magical strength. However, it gives you a great supporting bonus that lets you build a foundation to fight from the background instead of the front. The more you spend in this Heritage, the more powerful it gets, and you will have an upgrade that can let you fight in the front.
I can wait for more points to buy the more powerful upgrades like the Dragon and Outsider Heritages. Hmmm, you know what? I think I will take one because there is a perfect Heritage for me. The Psychopomp Heritage is perfect for me.
It will make me into a Reaper, Shepherd, and Judge of souls and the dead. It will make me into Death itself if I can buy all of the upgrades and the Heritage match with the body I possess. It will be a perfect match for me.
Not only that, this Heritage also gives me a lot of upgrades for the first purchase. If I am not yet a Tier-5 character, this Heritage will make me into a Tier-4 character immediately. However, that doesn't mean I cannot grow. The Heritage makes my growth faster, in fact. It is just the immediate upgrade. I will also get free Talents from picking this Heritage. I will get Body Tune-Up, Everlasting, Covert, and Soul Talent.
The company will rebate any of the talent that I have already purchased.
After thinking for a few seconds, I decided to take this Heritage. When I select this Heritage, a list appears in front of me. It is a list of the type of Psychopomp I will become. Each of the types has different bonuses.
Angelic Psychopomp will give me a bonus against any Demonic creatures. Egyptian Psychopomp will allow me to see through someone's soul, weigh their sin, and see through lies. Shinigami Psychopomp gives me the abilities of the Severing and Sealing techniques. Norse Psychopomp will let me locate any recently deceased warrior for me to capture and bind.
I think for a few seconds, and pick the [Shinigami] type because those techniques sound great.
When I am done, I can feel something within me awaken. I can feel a cold but comfortable energy surge from within my body, and my vision expands. I look out of the window and I can see people differently.
I now know when they are about to die. I can even see the soul that still lingers in this world after recently died.
However, that is not the only thing. I summon my weapon, but instead of a black dagger, it is now a katana with a black blade that looks like the night sky, and the handle is made of some kind of cloth that is warm to hold. It is black with red underneath the first layer of clothes.
It is beautiful and deadly—a perfect weapon for me.
I swing it around for a few seconds and decide to test it on the nearby table. I chuckle a little when I see the katana cut through the edge of the table like a hot knife through butter. It is a clean cut and I've not used the Severing power.
Speaking of Severing Power, I gain the ability to sever a lot of things. At this moment, I can sever the soul of a mortal using my sword without killing them. However, I cannot keep their souls for long. Other than that, I can also sever a barrier with my sword.
It sounds a bit weak, and it is considering its potential. However, it will grow with time and training.
The other power, Sealing, also starts weak. It can seal a curse and even seal immortality. The last one depends on how powerful my opponent is or how powerful their immortality is. At its highest power, this power can even seal the immortality of a Primordial God. When I reach a certain upgrade in my Heritage, I can even seal a Domain of a Conceptual being like Time or Space.
Just like my Severing Power, it grows with time and training.
However, there is a way to increase these two with things other than training and time. I can use the souls that I harvest to boost them. The increase depends on how powerful their souls are. A normal mortal? It will look like a water droplet. It will fill the container, but it requires a lot of them. However, when I get a powerful soul, I can get a lot of boost.
Speaking of souls, as a Psychopomp, I can interact with the souls of the newly deceased. I can stamp them and capture them. However, I need to find a way to resurrect them, like creating a new body or doing rituals that create a perfect vessel for the soul.
This can be bad or good. It is good because if I can restore their body, they will be alive once again. However, if I leave them alone, their souls will wander because the mortal plane cannot go to the afterlife of their world. After all, they are still connected to me.
I am not a monster. I used them for points and tortured them with damnation because I didn't let them rest.
When I capture them while they are nothing but souls, I can either create a new body for their souls or sell them so the company can create a new body for them. I think I will refrain from stamping souls for now. I am fine with murder, but not letting them go to the afterlife is even beyond me, and I have the knowledge of a member of Hashashin.
I shake my head and look at my phone. I have 22 points left because of the rebate system. I think for a few seconds and decide to buy the [Pocket Apartment] twice. When I buy them, knowledge appears in my head, and I am now the owner of a two-story building. It is 150 square meters big and has all the things I need.
There are supplies in there that let me survive for a week, and they are always replenished every week. Sadly, the company counts it as a basic necessity. That means I need to carefully manage the food if I want it to last for a week. You will be alive, but your body needs more to grow.
Lucky for me, even when I don't use the supplies, the company will keep sending more to me until it reaches a certain point. That means if I have 10 meats, it will become 20 meats the next week if I don't use them. The foods will not spoil as long as I don't take them from their original container.
However, the supplies are not what I want from this thing. I want the bed and other modern inventions. The bed in the inn is good enough, but there is no way sleeping in a bed made of straw is better than a bed made in the modern day.
Not only that, my inventory is also increasing. The basement of this apartment is used as a vault for all the things I store. When the vault shuts, time will stop inside the vault and only resume when I open the vault.
I can access all the goods inside the vault just like before, but when I access the vault, it counts as me opening the vault.
Lastly, I am able to store a living being. However, that being needs to be willing. That means I can store a dying person to prevent them from dying so I can get them to a healer or doctors.
I shake my head and look at the rising sun. Today is the day that I go to Lordlake alongside the Prince's party. I need to prepare.
