For a moment, they all stood in daze, just staring blankly at the empty spot next to Kade where Einar Blackstone had been just a few seconds ago.
"Ah?" Kade was the first to recover. He blinked twice… And then threw himself at the door, banging on it with his fists, and rattling the door handle. If it were any normal door, not an enchanted one at the witch's house, it probably wouldn't have survived such an assault for long.
The guards followed shortly after. They had been standing at the gate up to this point, monitoring the street, but with their pack leader gone, snatched by the witch, they rushed to Kade's side…
And grabbed Felix by the collar, raising him up and pressing against the wall, almost knocking off the pram in the process. Vivi, who had been dozing off peacefully until now, suddenly woke up and started crying out loud.
But the guard didn't care. He just growled at Felix, "What is going on? Explain yourself."
